Magic 2012 – How to Look Beyond the Events

As we approach the much prophesied date of December 21, 2012 we are seeing more and more people dealing with large life events. Whether they are dealing with financial crises, major health issues, relationship breakdowns, loss of home and property, job loss, or any number of other manifestations of 2012, people are often filled with questions. They ask questions like:

Why me?
Why is life so unfair?
What do I do now?
Where do I go when I feel like I have no where to turn?

Many times these life events appear to be "bad news" and people tend to focus on the events themselves. People also tend to get stuck in the "Why me?" mode. The key to successfully navigating the events that Magic 2012 tends to throw in our lives is to look beyond the events themselves. Instead of asking questions like, "Why me?" Magic 2012 asks us to dig deeper. We need to be asking questions like, "What is the real message behind this event? What am I meant to learn from this event? In what way is this event asking me to change?"

While these life events may appear to be bad news, don't worry! The good news about Magic 2012 is that it is easier to change yourself and your life in 2012 than it will be in the future or has been in the past. If you need help getting answers or guidance try doing a question circle and asking the Universe for help.

How to Do a Magical Question Circle
Here's what you'll need: a sun yellow candle on a plate or in glass, paper or wooden matches, pen, and paper. You may also need a compass to help you figure out the cardinal directions of east, south, west, and north. Once you've gathered your materials and have located the cardinal directions, light your yellow candle with your matches. Then, follow the steps below.

1) Bring your candle, pen, and paper to the east quarter of your circle. Sit facing the outside of the circle (facing east). Ask the Winds of Knowledge what you need to know about your situation, and get quiet inside as you wait for the answer. Be prepared to write down everything that comes to you. Don't think about it, just write. Keep writing until you no longer receive information. Thank the Winds of Knowledge and move to the next step.

2) Move to the south, and sit facing south. Ask the Winds of Power to show you what actions you need to take for your situation. Again, write any answers that come to you. Thank the Winds of Power.

3) Move to the next quarter, in the west, and sit facing west. Ask the Winds of Feeling what emotional shifts you need to make regarding your situation. In addition, you may want to ask for spiritual enlightenment. Thank the Winds of Feeling, and then move to the next quarter.

4) Move to the north, and sit facing north. Ask the Winds of Strength how you can build a foundation for the future you want. Ask for practical guidance about your situation. Thank the Winds of Strength.

5) Finally, move back to the center of your circle and sit facing east. Read through the answers that have come to you from each direction. Slowly digest the information. You may want to repeat the question circle several times, at different times, until you get clarity on your situation or lessons.

The year 2012 is an interval year, which means that changes not possible before are now very possible. Ask the right questions and you'll get some amazing answers.

Have Trouble Meditating? Help With Meditation

Need help with meditation? Are you one of the many people who just can't seem to get the hang of sitting quietly and turning off your mind chatter? You are definitely not alone. Yet, a meditation practice is so important in a spiritual practice, as well as having health benefits, that we have a simple exercise to give you help with mediation and get you on your way.

Why Have A Meditation Practice? Benefits of Meditation
There are many benefits of having a mediation practice. On a spiritual level, meditation is used to create peace, joy, harmony and manifestation in your life. It is a way of creating sacred space giving you a place to "get away" from everyday noise and rush. This allows you to be able to commune with nature, listen to messages from higher powers, clear your mind and open yourself to many other magical things. Creating a meditation practice for yourself is a way of inviting in your psychic skills.

On the physical level benefits of meditation include lowering of the blood pressure, strengthening of the immune system and reducing stress. A regular meditation practice has been shown to increase serotonin levels in the body which can help with depression, headaches and insomnia that are associated with low levels.

Help With Meditation: How to Do Meditation
So, now you are sold on the benefits of meditation, but still don't know how to get started or find it frustrating. We hear that a lot. Here are some simple steps to give you help with meditation and show you a simple way of how to do meditation.

1. Sit comfortably with your eyes closed, hands in front resting on your lap, right hand cradled in the left. Be aware of your thoughts, yet remain unattached to them. Be aware of your sensations. Make sure you have at least 15 minutes of quiet, undisturbed time to sit. Early in the morning is best. You can sit on the ground, in a chair or where ever you are comfortable.

2. Sitting with a lit candle, burning incense or near a running fountain or moving water can sometimes improve meditation. Burning a botanical such as lavender can help you relax.

3. With your eyes closed, feel your breath moving in and out of your body, but don't try to force the breath or breathe on purpose. Just feel your body breathing by itself.

4. If thoughts come into your mind (and they will), let them simply pass through. It may help to imagine that you are sitting on the shore of a river watching boats go by. The boats are the thoughts that come into your mind. Sometimes you will get so fascinated with a particular boat that you will want to jump on board and investigate. This is what happens when your thoughts carry you away from your quiet place on the shore. When you notice that you have been carried away by one of your thoughts, just return to your quiet place on the shore and notice your breath again. Don't be discouraged or berate yourself when this happens. It is part of the process and over time you will be distracted less and less.

5. If you have great difficulty being interrupted by your thoughts, you can also meditate with your eyes open, focusing on a candle flame or on the smoke from your incense burner. Sometimes having a visual focus will reduce the internal chatter from your mind. The sound of a fountain, which is irregular and difficult for your mind to follow, can also help with mediation.

6. Sit for at least 15 minutes in this quiet meditation. The length of your mediation is not as important as the consistency. It is better to do a shorter mediation daily than to do longer ones sporadically.

7. Do not judge the results of your meditation by how peaceful or disruptive it was. It is the effort to reach a place of inner quiet that matters, not whether or not you achieved total quiet. Enjoy your time of meditation as it is time you are devoting to your own inner development. The more you develop your inner life, the more your outer life will flourish and grow.

Magic and Miracles - Start with Simple Meditation

We often are asked about the best way to meditate as part of a magical practice and our answer is that simple meditation can bring magic and miracles into your life. Meditation does not need to be complicated and in fact can be a very simple process that you do for as little as 3 minutes per day or for as long as you choose. Meditation is a wonderful way to invite magic and miracles into your life because it creates a sacred space or doorway through which magic can enter. Many people think that bringing magic and miracles into their lives has to start with complex spells or rituals, but if you are a busy person or you just like to keep things simple meditation is the practice for you.

There are many different forms and types of meditation to choose from. Here are some steps to begin on simple meditation.
  1. Sit comfortably in a quiet place. Make sure you have at least 15 minutes of quiet, undisturbed time to sit - early in the morning is best. Feel free to sit on the ground, in a chair or anywhere you find comfortable. You do not need to sit in the lotus position, just any position you find comfortable.
  2. You may want to sit with a lit candle, burning incense or a fountain to improve your meditation. You may also want to burnsome incense or botanicals like lavender to help you relax.
  3. Once you have set up your space and are sitting quietly, close your eyes. Feel the breath moving in and out of your body, but don't try to force the breath or breathe on purpose. Instead, feel your body breathing by itself.
  4. If thoughts come into your mind, let them simply pass through. Here is a metaphor that will help: Imagine that you are sitting on the shore of a river watching boats go by. The boats are the thoughts that come into your mind. Every now and then, you will get so fascinated with a particular boat that you will want to jump on board and investigate. This is what happens when your thoughts carry you away from your quiet place on the shore. When you notice that you have been carried away by one of your thoughts, just return to your quiet place on the shore and notice your breath again.
  5. If you have great difficulty being interrupted by your thoughts, you can also meditate with your eyes open, focusing on a candle flame or on the smoke from your incense burner. Sometimes having a visual focus will reduce the internal chatter from your mind. The sound of a fountain, which is irregular and difficult for your mind to follow, can also help.
  6. Sit for at least 15 minutes in this quiet meditation, or longer if you desire. The length of your meditation is not as important as the consistency. It is better to do a shorter meditation daily than to do longer ones sporadically.
  7. Do not judge the results of your meditation by how peaceful or disruptive it was. It's the effort to reach a place of inner quiet that matters, regardless of whether you actually reached total quiet. Even a session filled with thoughts and efforts to return to inner quiet can be effective. The results of your simple meditation will appear in your daily life - during daily encounters and events. You will find, over time, a new sort of peace and inner quiet in dealing with all of life's events and people. Most of all, enjoy your time of meditation. It is time you are devoting to your own inner development. The more you develop your inner life, the more your outer life will flourish and grow.

As you can see these steps to simple meditation don’t require any great magical skills, but you will find that doing this daily will bring plenty of magic and miracles to your life.

How to Do VooDoo: If You Want Something to Go Away

Magically, if you want help making something go away, you can look into how to do voodoo. Voodoo or simulacra magic can be used for protection, self-defense, divination and attracting a variety of situations or conditions, but it can also be used to get rid of things. The word voodoo brings to the minds of many the image of the voodoo doll. This is part of voodoo magic in that the doll becomes a simulacrum or object that is a likeness of someone. It is then "keyed" to that person and whatever is done to the doll also affects the person. If you want to know how to do voodoo, you will eventually use the voodoo doll and other simulacra objects. There are many other techniques that will also be used in learning how to do voodoo however.

How to Do Voodoo: Magical Tools
Many of the voodoo techniques require the use of magical tools. The wand is the tool for the element Air, athame for Fire, chalice for Water and plate or pantacle for Earth. There are also a variety of techniques that can handle the same problem in different ways. We will discuss here one technique that is easy to do and does not require special tools or an in-depth knowledge of magic.

How to Do Voodoo: Rules of the Road
Before undertaking any type of magical procedure, you do need to be sure your intentions fall within the "Rules of the Road". These are Universal Laws that govern magical practice. Failure to follow these laws can result in backlash on you. The governing laws we follow at the Esoteric School were developed by Reverend George Dew of the Church of Seven Arrows. The two major rules to consider are:
  1. Whatever is done to the environment or to other beings in the environment brings similar effects upon the doer.
  2.  The magician judges the "goodness" or "badness" of his or her own acts, whether they are conscious or unconscious acts, on the basis of what the Universe reflects back on him or her. The same is true of judging others, entire communities, states, or nations.
You can find a complete listing of all the Rules of the Road we follow in our resources section on our website.

How to Do Voodoo: Making Something Go Away
This is not a technique, as you will see after reading the Rules of the Road, to be used on a person. It can be used for an unwanted attribute of a person, but not the person itself. There are other techniques that can make someone move away from your area. This technique is used to be rid of unwanted things such as debt, a health condition, a relationship. Here are the steps to follow:
  1. Take a piece of fruit, such as an apple to use as a simulacrum
  2. Key the fruit to the unwanted thing
  3. To key the fruit, hold it in your dominant hand (hand you use to point at something)
  4. Energetically flow everything you know about the condition, thing, or issue down your arm and into the fruit
  5. When the fruit feels hot, tingly or has an "alive" feeling to it, it is keyed
  6. Put the fruit on a plate. If you have a pantacle or keyed plate (Earth tool) that can be used, but if not then just a regular plate will suffice
  7. Leave it in a place that it can not be disturbed while it withers. Remember you have keyed this to be a certain thing now so you don't want the cat bouncing it around the room
  8. Once the fruit has withered away, so will the unwanted condition or thing.
This is just one of many voodoo magic techniques. If you are interested in this branch of magic, you can get our How To Do Voodoo ebook in our online school store.

Magic Spells for a Good Night's Sleep

Magic spells can be useful for a wide variety of purposes. There are even some that will help those of us who have trouble going to sleep or trouble with waking up during the night due to stresses or nightmares. Here are some magic spells that can help you get a good night's sleep.

Shower or Bathtub Litany
This magical ritual helps you get rid of excess Fire energies. In magical terms water carries fire so this ritual works by taking excess Fire energy from your body, mind, and Spirit, and flowing it down the drain with water. For this ritual to work, you combine your intention with some visualization and the magic litany. Using this litany before going to bed can help release stress and tension and get you relaxed and ready for sleep.

The litany can be done in a bathtub filled as full as possible with cool water. Do not use cold water. Instead have the water just below body temperature. Or it can be done in a shower with the showerhead set so the water is hitting you at the base of the skull and running over your back and front sides. Again the water should be just below body temperature, cool but not cold.

In the shower, run your hands down your body to move your Fire energy down to your feet. In the bathtub, lie down in the tub with your feet at the drain and as much of your body as possible under the water. Then see yourself radiating fire energies out of your body and mixing with the water. As you see this and see the water going down the drain in the shower or as you open the drain on the bathtub, repeat the following litany out loud.

All the tension, all the strain,
All the pain with excess flame,
Flow with water, down the drain!

Keep saying it until you feel that the flame is gone in the shower or until all the water has drained out of the bathtub. Speak the litany with authority and power.

Creating Sacred Space for Sleeping
For those who wake up frequently with nightmares, you can burn a yellow or electric blue colored candle in the room. For safety reasons, we recommend using a candle that is enclosed in glass. Do the following steps 30 minutes to an hour before you are ready to go to bed.
Stand or sit in the south facing north with the candle in front of you.
Light the candle with paper or wooden matches. Do not use a lighter.
Hold your hands up to and around the flame, focusing your attention on the candle and flame.
Say the following charge verse in a strong, powerful voice.

Child of Wonder,
Child of Flame,
Nourish My Spirit,
And Protect My Aim!

Continue standing or sitting with the candle in front of you for a few minutes while you visualize your aim of having a peaceful night with uninterrupted sleep. Leave the candle burning for at least 30 minutes and then blow it out (don't snuff it out) Once your sleeping space is cleared of junky energies, it will remain that way through the night.

These and other ritual type magic spells can be helpful in changing your elemental balance to relax you and protect you during the night.
