Spells and Magic: What Happens When the Rubber Meets the Road? Rules of the Road

When it comes to spells and magic, nothing that we teach is more important than Rules of the Road--the rules that govern esoteric practices. Rules of the Road are the universal laws that will affect any practitioner of spells and magic, regardless of whether that practitioner knows about the rules or not. That's why the first, middle, and last thing we teach in the Esoteric School are the Rules of the Road. Not sure about these rules? Check out the version created by George Dew, one of our greatest teachers, HERE.

When the Rubber Meets the Road -- Stage One
Safety is the most important factor when we teach people about spells and magic. Hence, we stress the Rules of the Road over and over, ad nauseam (just ask some of our students!). So what happens when "the rubber meets the road," so to speak, at first? As a new practitioner of spells and magic, what happens first is that you practice the Rules of the Road exactly as given. This keeps you safe and prevents any negative "side effects" or "karma" from bouncing back to you.

For some practitioners, learning Rules of the Road requires that they print out a copy and read them over and over again. For other practitioners, being safe according to Universal law means using only spells and magic that have been created according to the Rules of the Road. For more advanced practitioners, following Universal laws means checking new spells or rituals against Rules of the Road before performing these spells or rituals.

You'll have to decide for yourself the kind of role that Rules of the Road will play in your magical practice. For instance, you have to decide whether Rules of the Road are true ... and whether you would rather be safe or risk negative side effects to find out. That's stage one.

When the Rubber Meets the Road -- Stage Two
Then there is stage two, in which you codify your own Rules of the Road. In other words, the "road," as defined by the Rules of the Road, is a pretty wide road. The Rules of the Road define the very external boundaries you don't want to cross in your practice of spells and magic. But on that very wide road, there is quite a bit of latitude. In the second--or more advanced--stage of your magical practice, you may want to define a more specific or tighter set of rules for your own practice. This may include specific interpretations of the general Rules of the Road, based on your direct observation and experience. Or you may wish to include rules that are meant more for daily practice or everyday use--something not covered in the broader Rules. Still other practitioners may include rules that only apply to specific areas of spellwork and magic, such as the use, keying, and protection of objects used in simulacra (or Voodoo) magic. See the Voodoo Ebook for more details on this practice.

The key in stage two is to define rules that are appropriate and specific to your more advanced magical practice. Don't worry, these rules will continue to grow, evolve, and change as you do. You will keep adding, modifying, and perhaps changing these rules, and that is exactly what you should do. The difference between a priest and a magician is that a priest merely performs rituals while a magician performs and creates them. So as you continue to create and grow in your practice, your own personal Rules of the Road should change to accommodate. Just be aware of this as you deepen your knowledge of spells and magic so that you can be aware of when and where your own personal Rules need to change.

As always, enjoy the magic!

Throw Your Troubles Away Magically

Throw Your Troubles Away Magically

At a seminar on healing we once heard a woman tell of an exercise that relieved her of her troubles. She said she walked around a large park with a canvas sack. For every problem in her life, she picked up a big rock, associated it with the problem, and put the rock in her sack. She said that by the time she had finished putting all the rocks in her sack, she could hardly carry or drag it around--that's how many problems she had been carrying around with her.

When she was done, she dragged her sack over to a lake in the park. She then took each rock out of the sack one by one and, saying goodbye, heaved each rock as far as she could into the lake. At the end of the entire process, she left the park with an empty sack and a very light heart.

Does Her Method Have a Magical Basis?

Her story was so inspiring and wonderful that we began thinking about the magical basis for her method--and discovered that it was actually valid and useful. Her method falls under the category of simulacra magic, in which physical objects are used to represent person, place, or thing in life. It's also known as voodoo or Vodun magic. Once you correlate the physical object to the person, place, or thing in life, what you do to the object you also do to the person, place, or thing.

What the woman did with her rocks was to create a correlation or psychic connection between a rock and a problem in her life. When she threw each rock into the lake, she severed her physical connection to the rock and, by the laws of simulacra magic, also her connection to her problem.

Taking Care with Simulacra Magic

Now you obviously want to be careful with this approach because it's powerful. You don't want to associate a person with a rock, and then throw the rock into the lake--you would drown the person (and be subject to quite a bit of negative Universal feedback according to Rules of the Road). What you can do is connect your resentments, fears, angers, and other negative emotions to rocks and then throw them into the lake. You can also bury the rocks and allow Mother Earth to cleanse them for you (leave them buried for at least one moon cycle). It's a great way to unload! What's fascinating is that if you look at almost any tradition or method like this, you can find the magical operational laws at work in the process!

You can also channel unwanted thoughts and emotions into specular hematite stones, which can absorb a lot of them. These stones can move those emotions out of you and into a safe place. Many magical practitioners carry these stones around in their pockets for just this purpose. They cleanse them every month or so by smudging them with sage and pine resin to keep them clean.

Magic Spells: Healing on a World Level

No one can deny that there is a lot of healing that would be helpful in our current world situation in many areas and as magical practitioners, we know magic spells can help with this healing. People are often overwhelmed at all they see and feel needs changing in the world and wonder if magic spells can help and if so, then why aren't we doing something to "fix" things. The simple answer to this is yes, magic spells can help and we are doing something about it. There are so many directions this could lead from political unrest, and war to planetary changes such as global warming to hunger and disease and the list goes on. With such a long list, we must prioritize however. It's not like with real magic, we can just wave a magic wand and have everything change at once. Whereas we are sure there are others who practice magic that are also involved in world level magic spells, there is still a lot to do. We do feel an obligation to use our knowledge for a higher good, do pick out particular issues to work on and would like to share with you one of the projects our school founders have embarked on.

Simulacra or VooDoo Magic
This is a World level spell created to clear all our oceans, seas, rivers, lakes and streams of pollution. It is ongoing and was created using simulacra magic. Some refer to this as Voodoo and you can learn more about it in our How To Do Voodoo ebook. Basically this type of magic involves using an object that is a likeness of something else, keying that object to what you want to have an effect upon or who you want to have an effect upon and then whatever you do to the simulacrum also affects the person or thing. According to the Law of Similarity, the greater the likeness between a simulacrum and that to which the simulacrum is keyed, the greater the psychic connection will be.

Setting Up The Spell
For this particular spell, here is the simulacra that were set up. First a fountain in the shape of a clam shell was used. It is a bluish-gray color. Where the water flows out of the fountain is a pair of dolphins. The fountain was put through a 4 Element cleansing and it was keyed. It was then placed on a stand that has staggered tiers. On a lower tier, a globe of the Earth on a wooden base was placed (it too being subjected to a cleansing of course). All of this was then placed on a sun yellow colored square plate. The plate was keyed in the way that you would for a plate being used as the tool associated with the element Earth. Rounded glass-like pebbles collected on a beach were placed on an 18 by 2 inch stick which was placed East to West just under the globe. Those of you involved with magical practices will be aware of some of the planning that went into this setup in terms of colors used, materials used and symbols to bring in various elemental influences.

The next step involved filling a one ounce dropper bottle with bleach. This is was chosen because bleach prevents algae build up in the fountain. The liquid in the bottle was labeled as "Ocean, Sea, Lake, River, Stream Cleansing Agent". The bottle was put on a plate (the tool for the Earth element) and the bottle keyed. Verses were written that included a set time for the spell to work, pulled and gathered energy from the Old Ones, the Winds, other beings in the Hierarchy and all those who care about the health and vitality of our waters.

Every day, the fountain is topped off with water and a dropper full of the cleansing solution simulacrum is added. This spell is ongoing and is granted an ambitious one. It is one of the many spells we have undertaken to help heal the planet. Presented here is of course an abbreviated version of all that was entailed in the designing and implementation of this spell just to give you an idea of how simulacra or VooDoo magic works. There are other steps from creating directors and limiters, checking things out with Tarot readings to consulting higher powers and revising spell verses, that also have to occur in the process. It is a lot of work, but one that we find rewarding and that we feel is important.

This is just one of the many projects we have undertaken as magical practitioners to help in healing the planet. Now it's our turn to ask you, what are you doing?

How to Cast Stronger Magic Spells Voodoo Style

Voodoo magic often uses simulacra magic, or the magic of using objects with a "likeness" to something in the outer world, to create an effect in the outer world.

For instance, one magical practitioner took revenge on another by "keying" a figurine to that person, and then shipping the figurine around the world on a slow ship. Needless to say, the victim of the voodoo magic spell was nauseous and dizzy for about a month (the length of the voyage). This is an example of an effective voodoo style magic spell.

How to Cast Stronger Voodoo Spells
In the case of simulacra magic, as in the use of voodoo dolls, many magical practitioners fail achieve strong results. Then they think that voodoo magic doesn't work. Not so. However, there are reasons that simulacra magic does not work as well as it should. Normally, there are three reasons that simulacra magic doesn't produce as strong a result as it should.

1. The Voodoo Object Is Not Similar Enough to the Real Thing
As the name implies, simulacra magic means that the object used in the spell should be as "similar" as possible to the object of the spell. If, for instance, you are going to use a simulacrum in a map spell, to move a naughty neighbor out of your area, then your best bet is to choose a "voodoo doll" that is as similar to your neighbor in looks and personality as possible. If your neighbor is tall, gaunt, and hunched, then look for a figurine that is tall, gaunt, and hunched over. A short fat figurine won't work, nor will a ballerina figurine. It always amazes me how many people pick any old figurine to use for a voodoo spell. If you want to cast stronger voodoo spells, be very specific about the object used as the simulacrum.

2. The Material of the Voodoo Doll or Object Won't Hold a Key
"Keying" is the magical process by which you connect the object of a simulacra spell to the object it represents in the real world. For instance, in the case of the map spell, keying is the process by which you connect the figurine to your naughty neighbor. Assuming that you have chosen a figurine that closely matches your neighbor in looks and personality, you next must be sure that the figurine is made of a material that will hold the "key," or connection to the real world person.

Materials such as wood, metal, glass, and ceramic work well. Plastic, rubber, and modern composites tend not to hold a key. If you want to cast stronger voodoo spells, make sure your voodoo doll or object is made of the right materials. For most simple voodoo magic spells, you can key a figurine just by holding it in your dominant hand and flowing energy into the object as you think about the person. Once the object feels warm and tingly, it is keyed. Just be careful: once keyed, whatever you do to the object you do to the person and you are karmically responsible! Read about Rules of the Road on our website for more information about the universal laws that govern magical practice.

3. The Voodoo Doll or Object Was Not Cleansed
Cleansing a simulacrum is very important prior to use in spellwork, especially if the object is not new. Objects pick up vibrations and energy when they are handled, so you want to cleanse these from the object before using it in your spell. A basic four-element cleansing with a firebowl and chalice usually does the trick (learn how to do basic cleansing with out Firebowl and Chalice ebooks). Once an object is cleansed, it's ready for use in spellwork, and you avoid any "side bands" that might have been generated from previous handling of the object.

Simulacra or voodoo magic is a powerful form of magic. If you are not getting the intended results from your voodoo magic spells, check these three points to see if your spell is leaking energy. If so, as demonstrated in the three points above, remedying the situation isn't difficult. As Reverend George Dew of the Church of Seven Arrows always used to say:

"Take your time, think it through, and do it right!"
