Magically Clear The Air

I was watching the news one day as CNN ran a story about the EPA cracking down on yet another environmental polluter. Protesters had lined up by the scores to voice their disgust while company officials spouted carefully scripted lines for the cameras. In other words, it was a whole lot of hoopla.

I’m glad that as a nation we have become more aware of the devastating effects of waste products on the environment. I’m also constantly surprised that so little attention is paid to the effects of psychic or energetic pollution.

As energetic beings we’re constantly throwing off all kinds of different energy. We beam joyful energy when we’re happy and we shoot out little bolts of lightning when we’re angry. We can’t see that energy but we can sure feel it. Have you ever noticed the energetic difference between a jolly coffee shop and a hospital emergency room? How about between a stable family home and the house of a couple about to be divorced?

If you’re like most of us then you spend most of your time in three places: your office, your house, and your car. Since it’s almost impossible to totally avoid negative energy or disagreements from occurring in those places, it’s important to periodically clear the air with regular energetic cleansings.

How do you psychically clear the air? Here are three ways:

Burn Broadleaf Sage: Known as the “King of Sages” broadleaf sage is prized by many native tribes for its powerful cleansing and healing properties. Light the sage and blow the smoke on the walls walking around the room in a clockwise direction.

Light a Sun Candle: The sun symbol and the color sun yellow both nourish the spirit and cleanse the air. Properly charged, a sun candle can clean any room or car within 30 minutes.

Use Hematite: Placing specular hematite stones in the four directions will absorb negative energies as quickly as they appear. Just remember to cleanse the stones regularly (at least once a month) with broadleaf sage by holding the stones in the smoke for a minute or two.

Taking steps to reduce your carbon footprint and keep the air we breathe clean is important, but don’t forget that clearing your energetic air or space is also important. Magically clearing the air around you helps you maintain your sacred space and create an environment to live a magical life.

5 Magical Methods to Prevent Nightmares

If you suffer from nightmares and can't sleep at night because of them, you may need someone to wave a magic wand! Actually, you might just need to do a little shopping for some magical supplies. Here are five simple and wonderful magical methods to help you prevent nightmares. They are a big part of many tribal traditions and have worked for many suffering sleepless nights because of nightmares.

1. Sun Candle
Light a sun yellow candle (bright yellow with no orange or red overtones) with a paper or wooden match when you are ready to go to bed. A sun yellow candle encased in glass and set on a plate is your safest option. Let the candle burn all night, if necessary. Sun yellow nourishes your Spirit and keeps your energetic vibrations high and light while you sleep.

2. Essential Oils
Before bed, add a drop of soothing essential oils to your pillowcase or sheets, or rub them (mixed with a carrier oil, like almond oil) on the bottoms of your feet, on your neck, or on your forehead. If you have a partner, trade essential oil foot rubs before bed. Calming and soothing essential oils that will help prevent nightmares include lavender, orange, rose, sandalwood, and frankincense.

3. Dreamcatchers
Native Americans have long used dreamcatchers to prevent nightmares from intruding during the night. Made of leather and sinew, and often decorated with feathers, shells, stones, and symbols, dreamcatchers should be hung at the head of your bed or over your bed. They will "catch" nightmares, stopping them before they reach you.

4. Flower Essences
Mix up some flower essences to take during the day and before bed to prevent nightmares. Rock Rose is excellent for terrors, such as those that often appear in nightmares. Aspen helps young children who suffer from nightmares. Mugwort helps keep dreams from interrupting your sleep, while White Chestnut works well for repetitive dreams that haunt. Star of Bethlehem is a great overall flower essence to ease fears and terrors.

5. Glass of Water
Water is the element of the Spirit, and works well to soak up the terrors of the Spirit as well. A simple remedy for nightmares is simply to place a full glass of water on your nightstand before bed. The water will absorb any negative spiritual energy during the night, and helps prevent nightmares for some people. In the morning, be sure to dump the water down the drain. You don't want to take in negative energy by drinking the water!

Making Graceful Life Transitions

I recently was gifted with the experience of observing a friend go through a fairly major life transition that affected every member of her family. While this process is happening all the time to at least a certain population of the planet, what made this experience so special was experiencing the grace, intention, and determination with which she walked through this transition.
Because of the beauty of this experience I began reflecting that many of us face transitions and change with resistance (if not downright horror!), which causes the transitions to be choppy and filled with stops and starts rather than smooth and graceful. I then reflected on the many steps my friend took to ease the way for her transition, and how those steps were rituals that kept her path straight and narrow.
I’d like to share some of the rituals and remedies that she used to make her life transition a joyful one filled with gifts, along with a few of my own.
Flower Essences
Flower essences are generally taken 4 drops, 4 times as day. Rescue Remedy can be taken as often as needed.
  • Walnut: Excellent for all kinds of life transitions, clears old habit patterns, helps you find your direction free from the influence of others.
  • Cherry Plum: Trust in the intuitive guidance of life, also called the “letting go and letting God” essence
  • Rescue Remedy: A five flower essence created by Bach that helps in all traumatic and trying situations.
Colors
  • Sun Yellow: Burning a sun yellow candle for 30 minutes or more will nourish your spirit vitality and help you make clear, birth-vision oriented choices.
  • Sky Blue: Surrounding yourself with sky blue or wearing sky blue will connect you with spirit and free you from mind’s chatter.
Angels
  • Hire an Angel: There is an angel for everything you need. To hire an angel, just say, “I’d like to hire an angel specializing in [state your desire].” Wait a few seconds, then make your request, which might go something like this: “Angel of [your desire], I request your help in walking with me through this life transition so that I see all the gifts and beauty that are part of this process. Thank you in advance.” Then, at the end of the day or throughout the experience, thank your angel again. Appreciation is necessary in working with angels!
Rituals
  • Pendulum: If a particular life transition seems to be dragging on too long, you can spin a pendulum clockwise until it stops, with the intention that the pendulum is clearing any stagnant energies associated with the situations.
  • Walk in the Rain: Walking in the rain, especially by running water, helps to clear out old energies and bring fresh insights into a life transition. The running water carries away the old and the rain brings in the new!
There are hundreds of different steps you can take to smooth any life transition – these are just a few of my favorites. To learn more about these steps, get copies of these two ebooks:

Daily Magic for Everyday People

Can everyday people do magic or do you have to be descended from some line of witches and wizards to do magic? Balderdash! Anyone who wants can do magic. Magic is, in fact, the birthright of every planetary citizen, and that means you! If you're new to magic or you want to learn more about the magical arts, one of the best ways to get started is to do daily magic. Daily magic is the practice of simple rituals everyday to enhance your life. It can easily become a part of your daily routine, like doing yoga or drinking coffee.

Here are three simple rituals to get you started on your daily magic practice.

** 1. Need Some Info? Ask Owl! **
If you need some information in your life that you can't find on Google, such as some spiritual insight, you might check in with the Spirit of Owl. The Owl totem has all of the best qualities of physical owls: they can see extremely well, can hear extremely well, can turn their heads 180 (eyes in the back of their heads), are wise and are excellent hunters. If you need someone to hunt down some information for you, Owl is the one to turn to. Here's how you work with Owl in doing daily magic.

- Say aloud or in your mind, "Spirit of Owl, I request your help."

- Wait a few moments until you feel the presence of Owl (no more than a few seconds).

- State your request. For instance, if you need help seeing what's causing the relationship issues in your life, you might say, "Owl, please come with me today and show me what is causing these accidents in my life. Please show me in a way that I can clearly understand. Thank you in advance for your help." As always, when you ask for spiritual help appreciation is important.

- Stay open to what Owl will show you. Owl may bring up old memories, send you a phrase from the mouth of a stranger, or bring a chance meeting with another person. Owl will use any and every device to help you see. The more you contact Owl in your daily magic practice the faster these insights will come.

** 2. Need Energy? Burn a Sun Candle. **
One of the easiest daily magic techniques is the use of the Sun Candle. Create your own energy source by burning Sun Candles as often as you can. Carve a sun face into a candle and burn it, or just buy a bright sun yellow candle. Did you know that the color sun yellow (bright yellow with no orange) actually nourishes and refreshes your Spirit? If you're feeling groggy, grumpy or grouchy, sit in front of a lit sun yellow candle for a few minutes. It will refresh you and give you happy, joyful energy. Be sure to light the candle with paper or wooden matches since cigarette lighters have butane, which causes unwanted side effects.

** 3. Swing Your Worries Away **
Sometimes a little action is called for in your daily magic practice. If you're in a sticky situation and you can't find an exit, use your pendulum to clear the air. Find a quiet place and sit in the south facing north. Focus on the situation you want to clear and begin swinging your pendulum in a clockwise direction. Allow the pendulum to continue swinging until it stops naturally - it will stop swinging your situation has cleared. Then see what changes now that the situation has been cleared by your pendulum.
