Spells and Magic: What Happens When the Rubber Meets the Road? Rules of the Road

When it comes to spells and magic, nothing that we teach is more important than Rules of the Road--the rules that govern esoteric practices. Rules of the Road are the universal laws that will affect any practitioner of spells and magic, regardless of whether that practitioner knows about the rules or not. That's why the first, middle, and last thing we teach in the Esoteric School are the Rules of the Road. Not sure about these rules? Check out the version created by George Dew, one of our greatest teachers, HERE.

When the Rubber Meets the Road -- Stage One
Safety is the most important factor when we teach people about spells and magic. Hence, we stress the Rules of the Road over and over, ad nauseam (just ask some of our students!). So what happens when "the rubber meets the road," so to speak, at first? As a new practitioner of spells and magic, what happens first is that you practice the Rules of the Road exactly as given. This keeps you safe and prevents any negative "side effects" or "karma" from bouncing back to you.

For some practitioners, learning Rules of the Road requires that they print out a copy and read them over and over again. For other practitioners, being safe according to Universal law means using only spells and magic that have been created according to the Rules of the Road. For more advanced practitioners, following Universal laws means checking new spells or rituals against Rules of the Road before performing these spells or rituals.

You'll have to decide for yourself the kind of role that Rules of the Road will play in your magical practice. For instance, you have to decide whether Rules of the Road are true ... and whether you would rather be safe or risk negative side effects to find out. That's stage one.

When the Rubber Meets the Road -- Stage Two
Then there is stage two, in which you codify your own Rules of the Road. In other words, the "road," as defined by the Rules of the Road, is a pretty wide road. The Rules of the Road define the very external boundaries you don't want to cross in your practice of spells and magic. But on that very wide road, there is quite a bit of latitude. In the second--or more advanced--stage of your magical practice, you may want to define a more specific or tighter set of rules for your own practice. This may include specific interpretations of the general Rules of the Road, based on your direct observation and experience. Or you may wish to include rules that are meant more for daily practice or everyday use--something not covered in the broader Rules. Still other practitioners may include rules that only apply to specific areas of spellwork and magic, such as the use, keying, and protection of objects used in simulacra (or Voodoo) magic. See the Voodoo Ebook for more details on this practice.

The key in stage two is to define rules that are appropriate and specific to your more advanced magical practice. Don't worry, these rules will continue to grow, evolve, and change as you do. You will keep adding, modifying, and perhaps changing these rules, and that is exactly what you should do. The difference between a priest and a magician is that a priest merely performs rituals while a magician performs and creates them. So as you continue to create and grow in your practice, your own personal Rules of the Road should change to accommodate. Just be aware of this as you deepen your knowledge of spells and magic so that you can be aware of when and where your own personal Rules need to change.

As always, enjoy the magic!

Spells and Magic for Everyday Use: Why You Need to be Precise!

When performing spells and magic it is very important to be precise. I can cite many examples of spells and magic procedures that either "backfired" or that were perceived as failed all because the practitioner was not precise in executing the procedure. We've said it before and will continue to repeat – Magic is a precision science. The Universe can always deliver what we ask for, but sometimes it doesn't seem that way because we either are not ready to receive and our level of being is not a match for what we are asking to manifest or because sometimes we just aren't asking the right questions or are not being specific enough in our request.

Let's say for example that you want extra money. You are ready to receive this money, and you have asked the Universe to deliver. As you are walking down the street, you look down and find a penny. There you go, the Universe delivered just what you asked for, extra money. What you didn't do was specify how much money or when you needed it by or that you don't want anyone else to come to harm in order for you to attain it. This is where in spells and magic, Directors and Limiters come in and can help us get more precise in letting the Universe know exactly what we want.

Directors
Writing down your Directors and Limiters for a spell and magic procedure can help you in manifesting what you want and help you get very precise. Directors are a list of everything that you want in your manifestation. In this list include specifically what it is that you want. How much money, date you want it by, etc... It is often better to define ranges rather than absolutes to give the Universe room to work. So for example, it is often better to say "delivered in six to ten weeks" rather than saying "must come at 4:00 pm on October 2". Also, do NOT specify, HOW it will come to you. That is not your job; that is the Universe's job to determine the delivery system.

Limiters
Limiters are a list of what you don't want to happen in your manifestation. It is a way to safeguard yourself and others. Remember by Rules of the Road that causing harm to others will provide a backlash to you, whether in this lifetime or a future one and whether you did it with intention or not. Use your limiters in your spells and magic procedures to define things such as wanting your money to come to you without causing the death or loss of property to anyone. You might also want to specify in the Limiters that there not be any negative financial surprises to pop up around the money, for example some type of large tax or investment of capital on your part. As always in spells and magic, think it through completely. Then build in your safeguards.

Tip For Getting Help From the Universe
Here's a tip that is one of many you'll find in our Daily Rituals for Attracting What You Want in Life ebook that can help you in asking the Universe for help. Now that you have your Directors and Limiters defined and written down, make several copies of them. Take one copy and meditate or pray over it, then place it in a sacred place. This might be your altar, a Universe box, or a Bible or other sacred book to you. Then put other copies around places that you will see them. On the wall above your desk, on the refrigerator, your car dashboard, etc... This will keep your aim in your consciousness. You may not stop and read it every time you see the list, but your subconscious mind will absorb the information every time you see these lists and this will cause your belief to grow.

Real Life Example
Here is an example of how being precise enough to define what you want can deliver surprising results. This also shows why you do not want to get wrapped up in how the results come to you. The Universe is able to see the bigger picture and can find ways to make things happen that we could never have imagined.

One of our advanced students had accrued quite a bit of debt and wanted very much for that debt to be paid off. She specified in her Directors several things including the amount of money needed to pay off all her debts and a range of time. In her Limiters she specified that no one would be harmed by her receiving this money, that there would be no death involved in this receiving and no loss of property to anyone. This was especially important to her because she wanted to make sure she did not inherit the money as the result of a family member dying. She really couldn't see any other way the money would come, but put it out to the Universe, put herself in the receiving mode and being a true believer in spells and magic, trusted the Universe would deliver. And the money did come. It came in a way that she would never had been able to make happen herself without the divine intervention and that was a total surprise. Within the specified period of time, her sister came to her reporting that she received an unusually large one time Christmas bonus at her job. She said one of her first thoughts on hearing about the amount of the bonus was that she wanted to use a portion of that money to pay off her sister's debts and ease her money worries. Being a believer herself, the sister saw the large bonus she received as being tied to her sister's manifestation and that now they could both benefit from it. Coincidence or magic? I know what I believe; what do you believe?

Is Magic Real? You'll See It When You Believe It

As we explain in our Kindle book, Learn How To Do Witchcraft, Rituals and Spells with Your Bare Hands, the saying, "You'll see it when you believe it" quoted by such masters as Wayne Dyer is so very true when it comes to finding out is magic real. Magic is all around us, but for magic to be "real" in your life, you have to be open to it. The doubting Thomas' must put aside their contempt and suspend their disbelief long enough to try it out for themselves. Only through direct experience will one become a believer and so it should be. We never try to prove to one of these doubters or the skeptical or answer the question is magic real. Instead we invite them to try out some beginning spells and magic rituals and prove it to themselves. Our Kindle Witchcraft Spell Books series is a good place to start.

Faith or Belief Versus Experience
If you look up the word faith in the dictionary you'll find:
1. confidence or trust in a person or thing: faith in another's ability

2. belief that is not based on proof (he had faith that the hypothesis would be substantiated by fact)

In the biblical sense, faith is "the general persuasion of the mind that a certain statement is true" (dictionary.com). Basically, this means that faith is a belief that something is true whether or not there is proof. I think most people would agree with this dictionary interpretation. But for magical practitioners, faith is action. Magical practitioners have to have direct experience or have observed it for themselves to believe it is true. Until that happens, everything is still in the hypothesis stage.

So if "you'll see it when you believe it" and as a magical practitioner "you have to see it to believe it", what do you do to make these two statements work for you? Simple, you take action. Pick any beginner spells or magic rituals (you'll find plenty on our blog) and do one. In fact, do it daily for 40 days, keeping an open mind without placing judgment on it as to whether magic is real or not. During that 40 days, see for yourself what effect the spell or magic ritual has on your life. Ask the Universe for signs and guidance along the way and determine what is true for you and what is not. That will give you the data you need to determine whether something is true or worthy of your "faith".

Magical Payback
Whatever you pay into your magical practice pays you back... with interest! At the end of your 40 days, whether you decide the spell or magic ritual you have performed daily is worthy of your faith and belief or not, you will have paid into your magical practice... and your practice will eventually pay you back, regardless of whether you decide to have faith in that particular magical ritual or not. The Universe is ultimately fair and a great keeper of accounts. Magical acts are any acts of intention and are recorded in the Akashic records. Any magical acts you perform will pay you back, perhaps when you least expect it.

So what do you have to lose except maybe a little time over the next 40 days and a bit of skepticism? And just think, if there really is real magic, all you have to gain by exploring it for yourself and deciding to believe.
