Simple Four Element Candle Spell

Candle spells are among the most effective and most fun to do. When used in spellwork, candles help to push the message or desired energy out into the Universe for greater impact. Think of candles as Universal amplifiers. There are multitudes of candle spells and you can learn more about them in our Kindle book, The Complete Guide of Witchcraft Rituals & Spells for Beginners, or in our Basic Magic courses. One of the simplest uses is with candles from the Four Directions: East, South, West, and North.

How to Do a Four Element Candle Spell
The first action item in any spell, candle or otherwise, is to define what you want this candle spell to do. Take into account that while this is a multiple candle spell, it is also a simple spell. Complex spells require multiple candles that are carved and anointed, not to mention customized Directors and Limters (what you want the spell to do and not do) plus special verses. This generic four element candle spell brings in the powers of the four directions of the Medicine Wheel. However, since it will not have the extra "oomph" of carved candles and all the other extras, it is best to keep your request for this spell simple.

This type of spell can easily handle chronic problems such as trouble with neighbors, problems with your boss at work, being unable to find work, needing a small amount of money ($1,500 or less) in a reasonable amount of time, and so forth.

So take some time to write out what you want in as clear and concise a format as possible. For instance, if you have constant trouble with your boss at work, you may write something such as:

"I wish this candle spell to create harmony between my immediate supervisor at work and myself."
You may not want to name your supervisor as the spell may need to provide you with a different boss in order to create harmony. Add the following line to your one-line aim:

"Let all be legal and free in this spell. Allow not this spell to be the cause of death or loss of property to myself or others."

Once you have written your one-sentence goal for the spell, the next step is to prepare your materials.

Preparation for a Four Element Candle Spell
For this spell, you will need:
  • wooden or paper matches
  • four taper candles in candlesticks or four pillar candles, one each of these colors: sky or baby blue, bright yellow (no orange or red undertones), water blue (lighter than navy blue), and grass green
  • a safe surface on which to place each candle (such as a small saucer or plate for each)
  • a printed version of your one-sentence goal for this spell
  • printed versions of each litany for each of the four directions
  • knowledge of the current moon cycle--you will be doing this while the moon is waxing or waning, depending on how you have stated your goal
  • a compass for locating the cardinal direction South

Once you have your materials, clear a sacred space at least 5 feet in diameter. You will sit in the South facing North. You may want to put a small table and sitting cushion, or a folding table with chair. Set your materials on the table. Line the candles up from left to right in the order given above.

If your one-line statement is a desire for something to increase (such as finances), start this ritual when the moon begins to wax, working with one candle every other day. If you want something to decrease (such as noise in your neighborhood), work when the moon begins to wane. You can look up the moon cycles easily online.

Doing the Four Element Candle Spell
Once you have everything set up, place your first candle directly in front of you, on a plate for fire safety. Place your one-liner in front of you on the plate with the candle. Light the candle with a paper or wooden match (no lighters), and wait for the light blue candle to achieve a tall working flame. Once it has a working flame, cup your hands around the candle and say the following verses in a voice of command:

"Child of Wonder, Child of Flame,
Nourish My Spirit, and Protect My Aim.
I call on the Winds of the East to bring knowledge, wisdom, and enlightenment to me now.
I ask your help and guidance in achieving my aim, please show me how.
My aim for this spell is: [read your aim here with the accompanying caveat]
I thank you in advance for your wisdom and grace
And I appreciate your presence in coming to this place."

Allow the candle to burn for 30 minutes with your one-liner on the plate before blowing out the flame (do not snuff the flame). Two days later, at approximately the same time, repeat the process with the yellow candle. Place the yellow candle in line to the right of the light blue candle. This time use the verse below:

"Child of Wonder, Child of Flame,
Nourish My Spirit, and Protect My Aim.
I call on the South to bring action, movement, and kinetic solutions to my goal.
I ask for your supportive motion so my aim will not be slowed.
My aim for this spell is: [read your aim here with the accompanying caveat]
I thank you in advance for your wisdom and grace
And I appreciate your presence in coming to this place."

Again allow the candle to burn for 30 minutes in the same way as you did the light blue candle. Two days later, repeat the same process with the water blue candle, using the verse below:

"Child of Wonder, Child of Flame,
Nourish My Spirit, and Protect My Aim.
I call on the West to bring passion, emotion, and Spirit's guidance to my life
I ask for your higher wisdom and emotional power to lift my aim on high
My aim for this spell is: [read your aim here with the accompanying caveat]
I thank you in advance for your wisdom and grace
And I appreciate your presence in coming to this place."

Two days later, use the green candle and the following verse:

"Child of Wonder, Child of Flame,
Nourish My Spirit, and Protect My Aim.
I call on the North to bring endurance, practicality and know how to this spell
I ask for your help with guidance and practical instructions so all will go well
My aim for this spell is: [read your aim here with the accompanying caveat]
I thank you in advance for your wisdom and grace
And I appreciate your presence in coming to this place."

Record all of the above in your Book of Shadows, including the dates and times you lit each candle, as well as the exact words of the verses used. Then wait and prepare to record the results!

What is a Magick Spell Really?

Magick spells come in all shapes and sizes from the very simple to the very complex. Anytime you encounter a situation or condition that you can't affect directly is a great time to use a magick spell. This is especially true when there are complex factors or barriers to overcome that require a lot of force. A short, concise explanation of a magick spell is that it is any psychic or magical operation creating an energy matrix by combining a mix of the elements air, fire, water, and earth that may also program factors and carry an intention to produce a specific result over a period of time. By this definition chants, litanies, sonics, directors and limiters, and even prayers can all be spells just as more formal candle spells, multiple candle spells and Tarot spells can. The type of spell you choose for any given situation depends on factors such as the number of obstacles that must be overcome in achieving the end goal, the size of the problem, and how big an area or number of people to be affected.

Creating Spells
When designing and creating your own spell you need to have a thorough understanding of directors and limiters, basic magical operational laws, the terminology involved with spellwork, and the properties and characteristics of the four elements. Magick is a precision science as well as an art and since altered procedures produce altered results it is important to have a strong magical foundation before attempting to create larger complex spells. Directors and limiters are an especially important part of the design process because without these safeguards of defining what specifically the spell will do and what it will definitely not do, the spell will take the path of least resistance to the goal. Even if the goal of the spell is in accordance with the Rules of the Road that govern magical practices, the path may not be if you have not well defined it. This can cause major repercussions since the Universe doesn't care what you intend; only what you actually do.

Ready to Try?
While more complicated spellwork takes special training such as you can get through our Basic Magic Course, you can try out some very simple spells for yourself such as this one for attracting money or this very simple basic spell to get a boost in energy.

1. Get a pure bright yellow candle with not too much orange coloring in it; unscented is best.

2. Stand or sit in the South facing North and have the candle in front of you.

3. Light the candle with wooden or paper matches.

4. Let the flame grow steady and tall into a good "working" flame.

5. Now charge the candle by holding your hands so that they are close to (not too close that you get burned though) and cupped around the flame.

6. Focus your attention on the candle and flame and say this verse out loud in a voice of command (strong, powerful voice):

"Child of Wonder,
Child of Flame,
Nourish My Spirit,
And Protect My Aim!"

7. Now simply leave the candle burning for at least 30 minutes making sure it is on a plate or other protective surface and not a fire hazard.

8. Once you feel ready and at least 30 minutes have passed, blow the candle out. Take a few moments to see if you feel a difference in your energy level and quality of your energy. Most people report they feel lighter, energized, more harmonious and more peaceful.

Spellwork Troubleshooting

So you've launched your spell. You've done everything you can think of. You've done checkup Tarot readings on your Directors and Limiters (what you want your spell to do and not do) as well as on your verses. You have cleansed the area and launched your spell.

Then... nothing. You do a checkup Tarot reading on your spell and you see that it is stalled out. What could have gone wrong? Unfortunately, in the world of spellwork, unless you are using a spell that has already been proven to work under multiple circumstances, a lot of things can go wrong. So we've written a short little troubleshooting guide that might help you out. Check your spellwork against the list and see if any of the items apply to you. If so, don't fret. Many times you just need to relaunch your spell under the right conditions and all will go according to plan!

Spellwork Issue #1: The Moon
As you may know, many spells are tied into the timing of the lunar calendar. The moon is an important part of many types of spellwork, so timing the launching of your spell according to the waxing and waning of the moon is important. Just as the moon affects the tides all around the globe, the moon is often the moving factor behind a spell. The key to working with the moon is simple:

1. If you want your spell to build and grow and become larger, time your spell launch for when the moon is waxing.
2. If you want your spell to diminish a problem or cause an issue to shrink until it disappears, then launch your spell when the moon is waning.

If you plan to launch your spell several times (which is sometimes appropriate), then always relaunch your spell according to the previously given rules.

Spellwork Issue #2: Using the Appropriate Magickal Elements
Depending on whether your spell is meant to work on the level of thoughts and communication, action, emotion, or manifestation, the appropriate use of the four magickal elements is very important. The following list should give you a quick idea of which elements should be included in your spell, from the color of candles you might choose to the sound used in your spell verses. Candle carvings representing the appropriate elements may also come into play, as may the spiritual beings you call upon as you cast your spell:
  • Air: thoughts, communication, planning, speaking, logic, expression, writing
  • Fire: action, movement, kinetic (as opposed to potential) energy, anger, heat, neural energy, blood energy
  • Water: emotions, the language of Spirit, buried traumatic issues from past lifetimes
  • Earth: manifestation, practical ideas, construction, putting physical things together in a way that works
Now that you know which elements are associated with which parts of spellwork, you can review your spell to see whether you included the appropriate focus on elements. This is simply a quick peek at the elements. There is an entire deep art associated with the icons, colors, Tarot cards, sounds (for litanies and chants), and other factors for each element. If you are interested in this type of deep learning, consider our Basic Magic Level 1 course or element short courses and be sure to check out our special course offer at the end of this article.

Spellwork Issue #3: Using the Right Type of Spell
Just as you would not use a garden spade to dig a space for the foundation of a building, you would not use a backhoe to dig a hole in which to plant a small garden flower. Spellwork has the same kind of "scale" issues. If you want to tackle a truly large problem, such as a Bill that is to appear before the U.S. Senate, you will need a backhoe-sized spell to influence such a large issue. This type of spell would most likely be a room-sized Tarot spell cast by an entire group of people. On the other hand, if you want to cast a spell to get a better job, you will need a spell slightly larger than a garden spade, more of a full shovel. This might fall into the category of a Sun Candle spell or a "come along" spell with a keyed plate and magnet. If your spell isn't working, consider whether the spell you cast is of an appropriate scale for the issue you want to tackle.

5 Basics of Effective Magickal Spell Work

When people hear the phrase "Spell Work" they often think of Harry Potter and his gang casting spells with their wands, or other similar movie references. In truth, spell work has very little to do with magick wands or the number of witches participating in such an event. Casting spells off the top of your head with your magick wand usually doesn't produce more than a headache. In this article, we will review the 5 basic steps of magickal spell work. These steps are practical, simple, and easily accomplished by practitioners of any level. To learn even more about simple beginning spells take a look at our Kindle book, The Complete Guide of Witchcraft Rituals & Spells for Beginners.

Step #1: Choose the Type of Spell
The first step to performing a magickal spell that actually accomplishes your aim is to choose the type of spell you will use. Pairing the right type of spell with the effect you want to magickally create in the world is very important.  Trying to use a simple single candle spell to change events on a global scale is not likely to be effective. At the same time, designing a complex Tarot spell to tweak a small aspect of your business would be overkill. The spell would probably accomplish the aim, but you would spend far more time and energy than necessary to affect such a small part of your world. So choosing the right type of spell is the key to starting off on the right foot.

Before you can choose the most appropriate type of spell, you first need to define the aim of your spell. What do you want your spell to achieve? Write the aim of your spell in one sentence. Depending on the complexity of or degree of change you want your spell to create, choose the appropriate type of spell. Though there is a huge variety of spells available, the most common types of spell used in present time include:

1.    Sun Candle spells
2.    single candle spells with appropriate carvings
3.    simulacra spells (often better known as voodoo)
4.    walking litany spells
5.    multiple candle spells
6.    Tarot spells
7.    circle ritual spells
8.    black mirror spells

Sun Candle, single candle, simulacra, and walking litany spells are the easiest to perform, and can be done with very few ingredients and just a little preparation. The more complex spells--multiple candle, Tarot, and circle ritual spells--require a great deal more planning, preparation, and caution. Most practitioners can accomplish the majority of daily needs with the first four simple spells. The last four types of spell require the ability to do a variety of Tarot readings to analyze the situation, prepare and check on verses and other spell requirements, the ability to set up a full cast circle, plus the ability to safely open and close a black mirror, and more. The best way to begin with spell work is to start with the first four types of spells. Once you have mastered these four types of spells, learning the last four types of complex spells will be a natural next step.

Step #2: Write Directors and Limiters
In the beginning, we suggest you start with simple aims for your spell, as well as simple spell types. Once you have chosen the type of spell you desire, the next step is to write Directors and Limiters. In the simplest of terms. Directors and Limiters specify what you want and do not want your spell to do, achieve, and more. For instance, if the spell is about your money situation, you would create Directors (what you want your spell to do) that will specify the range of money that you would like to come into your life. If you work with specific Spirit beings, you would also request their help in your list of Directors. In your Limiters, you might want to specify that the money that comes into your life be from a free and legal source. One novice spell caster neglected to add this specific Limiter to her list, and ended up earning very good money (as specified in her Directors) in her job. The only catch was that the job was with a Mob operation, hence illegal. Creating very specific Directors and Limiters is crucial to the effectiveness of your spell. For instance, with money spells, you may also want to have a Limiter that states that your spell will not cause untimley death or loss of property to anyone... without this Limiter your spell may bring you the money you desire through an inheritance, at the expense of a family member's untimely death. In short, Directors and Limiters are the magickal way of specifying the who, what, when, and how of your spell.

Once you have a solid and specific list of Directors and Limiters, you may want to write verses to accompany your Directors and Limiters.  Verses are lyrical or poetic versions of your Directors and Limiters, and can be used in conjunction with your Directors and Limiters to strengthen your spell. For instance, with a Sun Candle spell, you may decide to place your Directors and Limiters between a magickal Plate or Pantacle and the Sun Candle. As you light the Sun Candle each day, keep the Directors and Limiters under the candle while you read your verses aloud in a voice of command. Taking the time to write verses and read them daily (often for 40 days at a time) sends a strong signal to the Universe. While verses are not strictly necessary, the lyrical vocalization of your spell on a daily basis roots your spell deeper in your psyche, and attracts that which you desire into your life more quickly.

Step #3: Check Your Directors and Limiters Plus Verses
Even if you write what seems to be perfect Directors and Limiters plus verses, it is always a good idea to check your results with a Question Circle. A Question Circle allows you to check whether any of your Directors or Limiters will achieve the intended results of your spell. A Question Circle will also help you check your verses. The Four Directions, along with Sky, Earth, and any specific Spirit guides who help you, can offer all kinds of lyrical inspiration, not to mention what is excessive or missing from your Directors and Limiters.

To do a Question Circle you will need to gather a Sun Yellow Candle that can easily be carried from place to place, wooden or paper matches to light the candle, a pen, and paper, plus your spell aim, Directors, Limiters, and verses. After you gather your materials, proceed with the Question Circle using the following directions.

1. Locate the directions north, south, east and west. If you are unsure of the cardinal directions, go outside with a compass and take readings of the directions. Be sure to use your compass outside as there is too much electromagnetic energy inside a house to give you accurate readings.

2. Find a space in your house that is 5 to 10 feet in diameter, moving whatever furniture necessary.

3. Gather your materials, and then enter the circle from the East and walk clockwise to the South. Once you reach the South side of your circle, sit facing the outside of the circle with your Sun Candle and materials in front of you.

4. Light your candle with the wooden or paper matches (no lighters), cup your hands around the flame of the candle. Once the candle has a tall active "working flame," charge or program the candle by saying the following verse aloud in a voice of command: "Child of wonder, child of flame, nourish my spirit and protect my aim."

5. Now bring your candle and materials to the East side of the circle, walking clockwise to reach the East. Sit facing the outside of the circle, again placing your candle and materials before you.

6. Take a few moments to calm and quiet your body and mind. Then say aloud in a voice of command, "Please show me what changes I may need to make in my choice of spell type, my Directors and Limiters, and verses to create the most effective spell for my aim."

7. Sit quietly and allow the answer to come. Be prepared as each direction on the Medicine Wheel often has much to offer. Keep writing until the flow of information stops.

8. Bring your candle and materials clockwise to the South. Sit facing the outside of the circle, and then follow the same steps as outlined previously to ask the South for guidance on your spell. Repeat with the directions West and North.

9. Finally, return to the center of your circle and sit facing East. Ask the same questions of "Sky Above" and "Earth Below." If you have specific Spirit guides, ask them this question at this time.

10. Once you have received all the information flowing to you, thank all of the directions and any Spirit guides. Blow out your Sun Candle.

11. Take some time to read through the answers from each direction of Spirit guide. It may take a few days for all of the information to fall into logical order. Allow the information to percolate for the next few days. Alter your spell type, Directors and Limiters, and verses as guided by your Question Circle. Then move onto the next step.

Step #4: Record Results and Launch Your Spell
Once you have tweaked and updated your spell type, Directors and Limiters, and verses as needed, record every aspect of your spell in a Book of Shadows. A Book of Shadows is a sacred magickal book in which you record every spell you ever launch. A Book of Shadows can be as simple as a spiral bound notebook, or as complex as a deeply embossed leather book with parchment paper. Many people place the symbol of the pantacle (star inside a circle) on both covers of their Book of Shadows to protect the contents.

In your Book of Shadows, write the date and time you launch your spell, along with the spell type, Directors and Limiters, verses, and any other details. For instance, if you use a single candle spell, you may have carved symbols onto the candle. Record each of these symbols as well. If you choose to read your spell verses aloud with your candle lit on a daily basis, record each time and date of each reading. Finally, jot down any signs and guidance you receive regarding your spell or the progress of your spell.

Step #5: Checkup on Your Spell
There are as many ways of checking on the progress of your spell as there are types of spells. For beginners, use the Question Circle method to check on your spell. Instead of asking how you can change your spell verses or type to better achieve your spell's aim, in Question Circle ask how your spell is progressing, and whether you need to take any action steps. Sometimes adding an extra daily mantra or walking litany add a great deal of force to your spell. Very infrequently, some spells go awry and need to be taken down. In the case of a simple candle spell, all you need to do is break the candle you used in half. Bury both halves in the Earth for a moon cycle. This will "take down" your spell and reverse any damage the spell may have caused. For the most part, the Question Circle will simply provide reassurance or offer additional suggestions to boost your spell's power. Feel free to check on your spell as often as once a week.

My Magic Spell Didn't Work -- Now What?

You did all the right things. You did divination before you launched your magic spell to see if it would produce the right results. You gathered the right symbols for the spell. You cleansed your space prior to the launch. Then you launched it ... and nothing's happening.

Now what?

Good question. There are quite a few reasons that magic spells don't work for people, and I've listed the three biggest reasons I see below. Check them out and see if they are true for your spell. If so, you might want to take down the existing one and start over.

1. You Are Trying to Accomplish Too Many Things
A lot of people believe that if they must go to the trouble to design, write, test, and launch a spell, they might as well put all their life's desire into the spell. Spellwork does take a lot of time and energy, so people don't want to waste it. Consequently, they pack it with everything they have ever wanted, from a dream trip to Europe to winning the lottery.

While I can certainly understand the motivation of not wanting to waste effort, I know that this is also the reason that a lot of spells don't work. A spell isn't like a menu, where you can pack in a bunch of different choices. The principle of a spell is more like the main principle followed by military snipers: "One shot. One kill." For a spell, the principle is "One spell. One aim."

If your spell didn't produce the intended results, look it over, especially your list of Directors and Limiters, and see if you packed your spell with too many demands. That might be the reason it isn't performing.

2. You Used Someone Else's Spell
There are a lot of books out there on spell work, and a lot of good spells that you can use to achieve some aim. If you just want to achieve something small, like a better mindset for studying or attracting a small chunk of money owed to you, using someone else's pre-written spell often works very well.

Where I see this approach fail is when people use a pre-written spell to try to create a major change in their lives. For instance, to transform yourself from a poor country mouse to an instant millionaire isn't going to happen if you use someone else's pre-written spell. It also probably won't work if you have someone else launch their pre-written spell for you. If you want to create this kind of change, plan on writing and designing your own spell.

3. You Haven't Waited Long Enough
This one is a biggie. We teach people to specify date ranges in their spells. This gives your spells some freedom in which to work. For instance, you might specify in your Directors and Limiters that you want to your magic spell to produce results between 3 and 6 months from the date of launch. This allows your spell to find that time of least resistance in which to create the desired change.

Having said that, I've seen big spells that don't work in the specified time period, but do eventually work. I launched a big one once to stop a bill from passing in Congress. The bill passed (which meant my spell didn't have the desired effect at that time) but was later over-ridden by another bill. Another example is a big spell my wife wrote to get a farm. She specified that the spell should produce a certain type of farm plus the needed income to buy the farm within one year. We didn't get the farm in one year. Instead, we ended up with a better farm three years later, with more income than was needed to buy the farm.

If you've launched a big spell, by which I mean a multiple-candle or Tarot-style spell, sometimes the results do not happen in the time period you specify, especially if the spell has to overcome a lot of resistance. Be patient. If you want to check whether you magic spell is still working, once your specified date range has passed, do Tarot readings to find out.

The Art and Craft of Spellwork
Spellwork is one of the high arts of magic, and it takes time, practice, and dedication to master, especially if you want to create change on a large scale. It does work. I've seen spells work over and over with good consistency.

Spellwork is also one of my favorite magical arts to teach because the people who are interested in this art are generally talented, interesting, and fabulous to work with. If this sounds like you, and if you are interested in learning the craft of spellwork, you may want to consider the online Basic Magic course. It will give you the deep knowledge to become a competent spell-caster in your own right.

Why A Spell Doesn't Have to Be Complicated

While some magical spells, such as Tarot or multiple candle spells, CAN be complicated, you can also do magical spells that are effective while remaining simple. Our Kindle book 3 outlines a number of simple spells, including using apples magically to get rid of the unwanted such as extra weight, bad debt, bad habits or a health condition, using a magical plate for healing, and getting rid of negative thoughts and emotions with the Firebowl Burn and lots more simple spells and rituals.

You'll also find lots of magical information in this book to help guide you in starting a magic practice. For example, do you know the difference in a ritual and a spell?

What is a Magic Spell?
A spell is a psychic or magic operation or formalized intention utilizing a combination of the elements Air, Fire, Water and Earth, forming them into an energy matrix, and possibly programming factors in it to gain force, momentum and overcome obstacles in order to produce a certain result over a period of time. By this definition chants, litanies, rituals, sonics and even prayers are magic spells. A spell will accomplish its goal by taking the path of least resistance unless directors and limiter (what the spell will and will not do) are programmed into it. This means that even if the goal is in accordance with Rules of the Road governing magical practice, the path it follows to get there may not be in accordance and can be destructive. For this reason a spell requires much more planning and is usually a more complex or involved operation.

What is a Magic Ritual?
A ritual is a type of spell that is usually of the more simple variety. It is typically used more often than other types of spells and repeated even daily to form relationships with and receive guidance from higher beings and powers or to deepen and reaffirm our intentions. Rituals and spells both produce effects that many would view as miraculous, but to higher powers they are normal. Higher powers and beings live on a higher plane than we here on the Earth plane do and the practice of miracles is commonplace for them. Using magical rituals allows us to bring these beings in to guide and help us achieve our desires.

This is just a bit of the magic information awaiting you in Learn How to Do Witchcraft Rituals and Spells with Magical Tools. Get the book for yourself and explore all the magic knowledge and try out the magical procedures for yourself. It's an easy way to study magic on your own schedule in your own time.

Top 7 Reasons A Magic Spell Fails

After our students master using the 4 Elements and magical tools, they are ready to start Level 3 of the Basic Magic Course which concentrates on the Tarot, spellwork and using simulacra magic. A spell is a psychic or magical operation combining the 4 elements in some way and programming in factors to produce particular results over a certain period of time. A magic spell is a formalized intention designed to achieve a specific goal or affect a specific condition or situation. They are particularly useful when there are complex factors, barriers or obstacles that need a lot of force to overcome. A spell forms an energy matrix that is programmed to build momentum and overcome those obstacles until the goal is manifested. We teach our students to use directors and limiters when creating a magic spell so that the goal is reached safely without breaking any of the magical Rules of the Road. If a spell is not programmed with these safeguards it will take the path of least resistance towards the goal and you may get the end result, but in a way that comes about through things you don't want to happen. For example, if you just ask for a certain amount of money and don't specify that it cause no harm or loss of property or life to any other living being, you may get the amount of money you desire, but possibly it comes through the death of a beloved relative. We often hear stories along these lines or get questions from people wondering why their spell is not working and where they went wrong. For that reason we've compiled a list of the top 7 reasons we see that causes a magic spell to fail. Here's what we came up with.

1. No directors and limiters – as we pointed out above, having directors and limiters written into a spell programs it in a way that tells it exactly what you do want to happen and what you don't want to happen. It may be that your spell is working, but that you did not put in enough particulars to see the results. For example, say you created a spell to make it rain. But did you specify where you wanted that rain and how much and within what time period. It is probably raining somewhere as a result of your spell, but maybe not where and when you really wanted it to.

2. Unclear directors and limiters – Are your directors and limiters precise and clear and appropriate for the situation? Take a look at them again or maybe have another pair of magical eyes take a look at them. It could be that you are too specific. Remember that your directors should tell what, when, and where but not how the goal is accomplished. The how part is up to the Universe to find. If you are too controlling in your spell there is no room for the Universe to do its part. It could also be that you have not written your verses, or directors and limiters in a concise and understandable way or that you have hidden issues blocking the spell. For example, if you are asking for a particular type of relationship to appear in your life, but you have not done the emotional work to really be ready to handle that type of relationship (ie.- the level of your being attracts the level of your life), then you may be sending out mixed messages.

3. Not enough range in directors and limiters – Look at your directors and limiters to make sure you are leaving enough "wiggle" room for the Universe to realistically manifest the goal. For example, if you say I want to have 1 million dollars within the next hour that is not a realistic goal. A magic spell needs to have the time to gain force and grow.

4. Binding verses or directors and limiters – Rules of the Road say binding is a definite violation of universal magical practice. If you are not following Universal laws then your spell can very likely fizzle out and not be able to attract the energy it needs.

5. Not using a powerful enough format for what you want the spell to do – A spell can be cast in a variety of ways and you need to choose a way in creating and launching the spell that is in accordance with the amount of energy it will need. You can get some ideas of the obstacles you may encounter by doing a Tarot reading and that can give you information that will help you select an appropriate format. By definition, a chant, litany and even prayers are all spells. These may be appropriate at achieving certain goals, but others may be complex enough that they require a simple single candle spell. On the other hand if you use a simple candle spell when you need a multiple candle spell or a tarot spell, then you may not have enough force in your spell to overcome the obstacles it encounters.

6. Not matching the spell's launch date to the waxing or waning of the moon – When you launch your spell is also an important part of the planning and creating of it. If you are wanting to attract more or increase something, then you will want to launch it during a waxing moon period. On the other hand if you are trying to reduce something, shrink it, or rid yourself of something, you want to launch your spell during a waning moon period.

7. Not having a good enough relationship with the Universe – The Universe is always ready to help, but as with relationships among people, the better working relationship you have with the Universe through the use of daily rituals, the more likely and more quickly the Universe will step in to help you.

So there you have our 7 top reasons a magic spell may appear to not be working or actually may not be working. If you are ready to move on to learning to do effective and safe spells, then the Basic Magic Level 3 Online course is the one for you.
