Sticky Relationship Issues? Create Sacred Space to Smooth Them Over

Making the time to create sacred space for ourselves can indeed help smooth over sticky relationship issues. We all have times when our busy lives stress us out and we not only don't make quality time for friends and family, but we also often take out our frustrations and stress on those closest to us. This is a good time to turn to magic. By using a few magic words and magical techniques to create sacred space, we can strengthen our relationships. Using daily rituals such as the ones in our Daily Rituals for Attracting What You Want in Life ebook helps not only with our earthly relationships, but also those with higher powers and beings.

What is Sacred Space?
The word "sacred" originated from the very sacren which means "to consecrate". Consecrate often is associated with religious meanings, but aside from that it also means "To dedicate solemnly to a service or goal." Using this definition, you can get an immediate start on smoothing out relationship issues by re-dedicating yourself to those relationships. Making an aim or a goal for yourself is the first step. This aim could be something that you will do to relieve your own stress, making you more pleasant to be around and more available to others or it could be a goal for something you will consistently physically do for others in your life. If you are not sure about what aim or goal to pick, using magical tools such as Medicine Cards, Runes, Sacred Path cards or Angel Cards can help. You may want to pick one long term goal to work towards or pick a different goal for each day.

How To Create Sacred Space
Creating sacred space is a very simple way to get back peace, serenity and clarity. There are hundreds of ways to create sacred space, depending on which tradition you study or practice. One of the keys though is consistency. Doing a simple daily ritual consistently will bring you much more success in creating sacred space than doing a list of things that you will probably put aside when stressed and short of time. You can pick a ritual as simple as sitting in total silence just breathing for 3 minutes each morning. As long as you do it consistently each and every day, you will build force and feel the results throughout the day. Here are a few other ways you can start creating sacred space in your life.

1. Create a Sacred Space to Create Sacred Space – You need to have a physical space that is free of clutter that you can go to. Pick an area in your home that can be just for you and clean it up physically and energetically. You can clear out negative energies by doing a 4 element cleansing or smudging. You may want to set up an altar in this space for sacred objects such as a feather or interesting rock you found on a walk, candles, or a talisman or symbol that resonates with you. Keep your sacred space area clear of dust and make it a special place just for you.

2. From Start to Finish – Pick a simple daily ritual that you can perform at the very beginning of your day to set the tone for the day with peace, calmness, awareness and to invite magic into your life. Do the same ritual last thing of the day to help you end your day in the same way by inviting magic into your dream world and helping you get good quality sleep.

3. Sacred Movement – Some people just can't sit still, even for 3 minutes. Trying to do a sitting or meditation just seems to stress them out more. For those people, walking can be a good way to create the sacred. Taking a walk and praying or talking with higher powers can create sacred space all around you. Moving your body also moves your mind. By the law of "as above, so below," when you move body, spirit and mind will also move. Taking a walk can move your mind out of whatever space it is in and reconnect you with your aim. There are also moving mediations done in conjunction with a litany that can help create sacred space with movement and magic words.

4. Sun Candle – Lighting and charging a Sun Candle is a great way to create sacred space in your special area or anywhere. I know people that keep one on the desk at work to keep their work area calm and energetically clean and to help them focus or concentrate. All you need is a bright yellow candle that doesn't have any orange overtones and preferably is unscented and wooden or paper matches. Then charge or program the candle in this way:
  • Stand or sit in the South facing North with the Sun Candle in front of you
  • Light the candle using wooden or paper matches (do NOT use a lighter)
  • Wait until the candle flame is steady and tall
  • Hold your hands up to and around the flame, focusing your attention on the candle and flame.
  • Say the charge verse below in a voice of command (a strong, powerful voice):
Child of Wonder,
Child of Flame,
Nourish My Spirit,
And Protect My Aim!
Leave the candle burning for at least 30 minutes (be sure the candle is on a protected surface such as a plate and is not a fire hazard). At the end of 30 minutes or when you feel ready, blow out the flame (don't snuff it).

5. Use Physical Sensation to Stay in Present Time - Physical sensations help us stay in present time which increases personal power and allows us to stay connected with our aims. Find a way to create an unfamiliar physical sensation for yourself. This might be putting a rubberband around your wrist, wearing a ring on a different finger than usual, carrying a small rock in your pocket or anything you can think of that you will physically be conscious of throughout the day.

Get your relationships back on track magically by using some of these tips for creating sacred space. Not only will your relationships run smoother, but you'll find yourself able to enjoy life more, having time to stop and smell the roses and being able to manifest easier those things you want to attract to your life. It just one way real magic can add to your quality of life.

Need Some Sacred Space? Wear This!

The holiday season is quickly approaching and with it the usual crazed shoppers, family members (wanted or unwanted), work/life balance crises and more that can all interfere with your sacred space. But fear not! You, as a planetary citizen, are always entitled to your sacred space. To ward off those crazy holiday vibes, just key (personalize) and wear our specially designed seven-pointed faery star psychic shield. Watch those unwanted psychic energy bolts bounce off your now-shielded space. Moon shields for women, Sun shields for men. Both come with directions on how to key to your own energies.

The Faery Star For Magical Protection
The Faery Star, also known as the Elven Star, is a seven point star made by combining a four point square with a three point triangle in a way that creates a constantly circulating shape or shield. This symbol is sacred to many Wiccan and tribal traditions because the number 7 is sacred as being related to the seven planets, seven notes of the diatonic scale, seven directions of North, South, East, West, above, below, and within, and the seven colors of the rainbow. This type of psychic shield once it is keyed becomes an eternally spinning shield. Whereas the pentagram which is a five point star always requires a "push" from outside to set in motion, once the Faery Star is keyed with electric blue energy it never stops rotating.

A psychic shield is a great magical way to protect yourself from negative energies surrounding you. It will not only protect you from all the chaos and noise going on around you and create sacred space for yourself, but will also deflect the energy coming from another person thinking something negative about you. The energy from those types of thoughts from others can actually have a negative influence on you. When you key the shield, you are personalizing it to your own energies and programming it to defend against any kind or degree of psychic attack. An attack coming from behind you will cause the shield to channel the energy from it and pull it harmlessly through you. An attack coming from in front of you causes the shield to block the energy and scatter it. If you see your shield turning black or having burn or scorch marks on it, then you'll know it has been deflecting those negative energies for you. When this happens, just clean it up with silver polish and you may want to hold it over your firebowl with a mixture of pine resin and sage burning in it. Holding the shield over a column of smoke like this until the smoke begins to stick to it will help clear out negative energies too.

Not only does the Faery Star shield protect you from unwanted energies, it also can help you control your magical gifts. Anytime you feel your energies spinning out of control, you can use the shield to ground your energies.

Other Magical Protection

Besides using the shield, which is good because it is easy to take with you where ever you go, it is a good idea to cleanse your other spaces like home, office, and car. Use pine resin and sage or other cleansing herbs, burn a sun yellow candle or even better do a four element cleansing on these areas to clear out all the junky energy that may have accumulated. You can also use symbols or talismans of animal totems, deities or other higher spirit powers that are sacred to you to display in areas of your home for protection. You may also want to ward and bind the mirrors in your home. Silver and black mirrors can both be windows or doorways into other worlds. Silver mirrors access the level or plane that is reflected in them. Black mirrors, often called witch's mirrors, however can access any realm. Magicians and shamans create their own black mirrors for magical reasons such as traveling to other realms, but if you have any type of black reflective surface like on a microwave, dishwasher, computer screen, etc., other beings, magicians or shamans can penetrate your home shields and enter your sacred space. Spirits often use mirrors to take up residence too. Mirrors are also like psychic sponges that absorb all kinds of emotional energies so you never know what they may be accessing at various times. To prevent this, you can ward and bind your mirrors in this way:
  • Perform a 4 element cleansing on the mirror

  • Use your Athame in an edge on position to sweep the mirror from top to bottom with a sheet of electric blue which is one of the fire element colors

  • Ward the mirror by putting the Left Eye of Horus symbol in the lower right hand corner of a square or rectangle shaped mirror. Use a permanent marker or a permanent sticker with the symbol on it. DO NOT use the Right Eye of Horus as that is used to enhance spirit vision, divination, opens things, seeks and pulls which is the opposite of protection. The Left Eye is a natural mirror and glass protector from Egyptian practice. If your mirror is round or oval shaped, put the symbol in the bottom center.

  • Bind the mirror by using your Athame with a beam of electric blue energy projected off the tip and draw an X with the first line drawn from top right to bottom left and the second line drawn from top left to lower right. Lock both beams into the frame or the back of the mirror at the corners.

Where ever you spend your holidays, whether staying at home or traveling, you can magically protect your sacred space and have a peaceful, joy filled time. Energetically and magically clear out your space if you are at home or use a psychic shield at home or away from home and keep the negative energies out of your space. Especially at this time of year, whatever traditions you observe, you have sacred spiritual ceremonies and rituals that you don't want negativity interfering with. Just a little magic can help!

Making Space for Sacred Space

Happy New Year!
Do you feel the need to rejuvenate and refresh yourself for the New Year? Then create some sacred space in your life. When you read a great inspirational book, prayer, or article, don’t you think to yourself, “What a great idea! I should do more daily rituals, prayer, meditation…”? It always seems like a great idea, and what better time to start than in the New Year? We know that sacred practices and sacred space bring peace, harmony, joy, and ease into our lives. Sounds like a great idea!
The problem is that the impulse to add more sacred activity into our lives only lasts for a few moments—then life intrudes and we forget all about it until the next time we read something inspiring. So how can we really make space for sacred space in our lives? Luckily it’s not as hard as you think. Check out these simple ways you can expand the sacred in your life:

1) Be Simple and Consistent: Consistency in creating sacred space is much more important than quantity. Choose one sacred practice you will do every day, and do it every day. Even if you just sit and breathe for 3 minutes in silence, you’ll feel the benefit of those 3 minutes throughout your day.

2) Clear Out the Clutter: Sacred space means actually having a space where you can be in the sacred. Dedicate one area of your house to the sacred by clearing out all the excess junk, creating an altar or space for sacred objects there, and keeping it fresh with incense, candles, or plants. Keep the area energetically clean with by smudging with sage or cedar.

3) Have Great Beginnings or Endings: Putting sacred practice at the beginning or end of your day will make it easier to remember and do. Starting your day with sacred practice will bring you peace and awareness throughout the day. Ending your day with sacred practice will help you rest deeply and beneficially.

4) Take Your Sacred Space Outdoors: There’s nothing like nature to bring the sacred into our awareness. If you find it difficult to get out of your daily routine indoors, spend a few moments outdoors each day, greeting the sky and earth. You’ll be amazed at how fast you connect to the sacred.

5) Move in Sacredness: For those of us who can’t sit still long enough to meditate, walking can also be a way to create the sacred. Walking and praying, or walking and talking with our higher powers can create sacred space around you, plus you can take it with you everywhere you go!
Happy New Year!
Alan

Under Attack? Magic's Got Your Back

Every single person has the right to sacred space, and fully safety and security within that sacred space. If you are under attack--physical or psychic--then magical self defense can help. You may use any and all magical means to defend your sacred space from attack (from verbal abuse to someone getting too personal at work to out-and-out physical attack) so long as you follow the primary rule of self defense. The rule says, "In cases of direct and violent personal harm you are entitled to defend yourself by any means available provided you did nothing to encourage or provoke the attack." Here's a more in-depth look at this rule and what it means when considering the use of magical self defense.

Direct – This includes a threat made upon body, mind or spirit. In a magical sense this would include attempts from any outside force or influence to cause a drain on your energy or impose their will upon you.

Violent – Anything that damages your physical, mental, emotional or spiritual well being is considered violent in a magical sense. Their intention to do violence or not is not part of the consideration, only what harm is actually done.

Encourage – This means that you have done nothing that would create or permit an unnecessary opportunity for a hostile being to attack you.

Provoke – If you know a sore spot someone has or know they are under a lot of internal or external stress and you become excessively pushy or confrontive, then these would be considered provoking on your part.

By Any Means Available – As long as all the other conditions of this rule are met, you can use whatever means you choose to defend yourself and the Universe will not consider any response you offer as excessive.

Sound good? Ready to explore more about the world of magical self defense? Learn more about the ins and outs of this rule, plus many magical techniques for self-defense in our Magical Self Defense online course.

Esoteric School Discovery Guide to Magic – Part VI

Use the Walking Litany as a Protective Shield

Moving forward in the series of our discovery guide to magic, we are now going to explore another aspect of the Navajo Beauty Way – the Walking Litany. A litany is a type of chant that is in effect a continuous walking spell that is used to create an effect on the person saying it. When you do the Walking Litany it puts a temporary three-dimensional energetic whirling protective magical shield up around you that can separate you from time, space and events and can be programmed to deflect certain types of energies and experiences by how it is keyed. Doing this litany can actually change the level of your being and by Universal law changing the level of your being changes the level of your life. This makes the Walking Litany a great magical tool.

How to Do the Walking Litany
Before starting in on the Walking Litany it is good to prepare yourself for this litany by taking a few moments to check in on your current condition. How are you feeling now physically, mentally, emotionally, and spiritually? After doing the litany, check in with yourself on these levels again as you will generally find your state has changed. The litany needs to be said out loud in rhythm with your footsteps as you walk for at least the length of two city blocks. Repeat the litany verses over and over until you stop walking. The basic verse for this litany is:

"With power around me, I walk in the world. With power within me, I walk in the world. This one carries power. This one walks in power."

You can make changes in the verse according to what you want to accomplish. For example if you want to create a state of invisibility for yourself change the word "power" to invisibility. The Walking Litany is good for using anytime you feel a need to regain personal power or create a more positive state for yourself, or create sacred space.

Having this litany as part of your magical toolbox gives you a powerful magic operation that can make remarkable changes in your life. As you start doing the Walking Litany and taking note of the changes it brings to your life, we invite you to join our magical community on Facebook and share your results.

Shamanism – How to Create Sacred Space

Remember the old TV commercial with the frazzled mom at the end of the day pouring bath salts into the tub and exclaiming, "Calgon, take me away"? She probably didn't define it that way, but she was seeking her own sacred space. Sacred space is something we all need especially these days when we are constantly bombarded with noise, stress and fast-paced living. Magical practitioners and shamans also create sacred space before performing many of their rituals and practices. According to which traditions or magical practices you follow, there are numerous ways to create sacred space. Here are a few simple ones that anyone can do.

1. Sun Yellow Candle - Take a Sun Yellow candle (a bright yellow candle that has no orange overtones) and paper or wooden matches. To create sacred space with the Sun Candle, you will need to "charge" it, or program it to do so. To charge the candle:
- Stand or sit in the South facing North with the Sun Candle in front of you
- Light the candle using wooden or paper matches (do NOT use a lighter)
- Wait until the candle flame is steady and tall
- Hold your hands up to and around the flame, focusing your attention on the candle and flame.
- Say the charge verse below in a voice of command (a strong, powerful voice)
Child of Wonder,
Child of Flame,
Nourish My Spirit,
And Protect My Aim!
If there are other people in the room with you, you can change the "My" to "Our" and make the words "Spirit" and "Aim" plural. Leave the candle burning in the room for at least 30 minutes (be sure the candle is on a protected surface such as a plate and is not a fire hazard). At the end of 30 minutes or when you feel ready, blow out the flame (don't snuff it).

2. Sacred Place – Sit in a quiet, comfortable location and close your eyes. See yourself walking somewhere that is pleasing to you. See all the details, smell the smells around you, hear the sounds around you, feel the weather conditions. Start to see a place ahead of you that you are going to. See what it looks like in as much detail as you can. It might be an opening in a wooded area, or a gazebo by a lake or anywhere that you find pleasing and relaxing. Keep walking until you arrive at the place. Breathe deeply in your sacred place and decide what you will put here. You might want to put an altar of some kind or your magic books or special artifacts or magical tools. Feel yourself being in this place you have created and spend as much time as you can there. When you are done, retrace the steps you took to get there and return to where you started. You can then return again and again to this same place anytime you wish or need a getaway. I find sometimes in the middle of a particularly stressful day that just seeing the place in my mind and anticipating the next time I can go there helps to calm things down for me.

3. Sacred Circle – Find a place either inside or outside that is at least 3 feet in diameter. Burn sage in a firebowl, smudge stick, or incense burner. Starting in the east direction, carry your firebowl or smudge stick and walk towards the south creating a circle using the smoke until you return to the east. You can also use a chalice (tool of the magical element of water) with spring water in it and a pinch of sea salt (representing magical element of earth) and go over the circle you created with your smoke, sprinkling the water. Then starting in the east direction invite each of the Winds into your circle in this order, Winds of the East, Winds of the South, Winds of the West, Winds of the North and finally invite Sky Father and Earth Mother into your circle. You can use this space you have now created to meditate, perform a ceremony of some type, drum, chant or just sit with the higher powers you have invited in. When you are done, remember to thank each of these higher powers for being there and bid them farewell starting with the Winds of the East, then south, west, north, Sky Father and Earth Mother.

Creating Sacred space gives us a way to experience peace, serenity and a connection with the higher. It is necessary for anyone following a spiritual path of any kind and allows us access to third force and our inner voice or spirit. Spending time in your sacred space is healing for body, mind and spirit. So give it a try, "Sacred Space, take me away".
