Exercising Choice

In every relationship, we are tasked with making tough decisions. This can cause us to become afraid of making choices in fear that we are making the wrong one. Here is when Relationship Magick comes in and helps us in Exercising Choice! Read more below to learn the magickal ritual of exercising choice.

Exercising Choice

Time Required: Ten Minutes Per Day

Ingredients:

  • Desire to increase relationship with higher powers and beings
  • Willingness to do this exercise each day consistently
  • Way to keep track of the number of days in a row you have done the exercise

Recipe Directions:

  1. Either out loud or silently, say to yourself, "I will now make a conscious choice."
  2. Ask yourself a choice question now. "Do I choose to do this or that?” (i.e., relax and read a book or go for a walk.) The question might also be "What do I choose to do right now?"
  3. Take a moment to be silent and listen to your inner self. The first answer that comes to you is what you must do. Make sure if you are in a place or time where you cannot do certain things that you do not make those things part of the choice. For example, if you are at work and would get in trouble for sleeping on the job, don’t make one of the choices “go take a nap”.
  4. Do this exercise each day for 40 days. If you miss a day, and you most certainly will, start over at Day 1. Don’t beat yourself up for starting over. This is part of the journey and the primary goal is having the practice, not getting to the 40 day goal.

Be sure to keep practicing and reflect on how you are improving at making decisions! If you interested in more guidance in your relationships, be sure to check out our Relationship Magick eBook!

Relationship Magic: Communicating with Someone Based on Elemental Personality Type

If you have been following our series on relationship magic, then you've read how relationship magic is a helpful tool in discovering your own personality traits and those of others in terms of which of the 4 elements most makes up your personality. This information can help you pick a career and relationships that you will be successful in. Here is a quick summary of the basic 4 elemental personality types and some of the characteristics they display.

Air Personality
If your personality is predominantly Air, then you have good communication skills, are adept at planning and are a good mediator. You also are a thinker who is quick to come up with ideas, solutions and inspirations. Your memory is excellent, but you are also easily distracted by various ideas and change your beliefs, opinions and ideas often. Completing projects and tasks is a challenge for you due to being easily distracted and because you like novelty and change rather than stability and practicality.

Fire Personality
If your personality is predominantly Fire, you have a lot of energy and enthusiasm for life. You are achievement oriented and action based. You are probably a natural leader, are creative and easily excited. You may be into thrill seeking through activities such as extreme sports and like to live life in the fast lane. You are easily frustrated by things moving along too slowly and become impatient or irritable with others who are not action oriented or just moving too slowly for you.

Water Personality
People with predominantly Water personalities are empathetic and compassionate people. They are the people others go to for comfort, love or assurance. They are usually caretakers of other people, animals and the planet and often are empaths, psychic and healers. These type of personalities value integrity and harmony and strive to create balance. They are aware of the beauty and gifts in their lives and appreciative of them. The challenge for these people is to not get so involved in other people's problems and emotions that they take them on themselves along with the negative energies. Instead of trying to fix everyone and their problems, they would do better to realize that modeling appreciation, joy and gratitude which comes natural for them is a better way to serve.

Earth Personality
Those people that have predominantly Earth personalities are practical and pragmatic. They are patient, stable, strong in character and persistent. These type of people value loyalty, structure, permanence and boundaries. These usually serene people are good at building strong foundations, finding out how things work, and manifesting. They are not risk takers and can be stubborn, inflexible and slow to make decisions. Collecting too many material possessions is often a downside of this personality type as is getting stuck in a rut.

Relationship Magic: Communication
Once you know your personality type and the personality type of someone you have a relationship with, you can plan ways to "get along with" the other person or possibly know personality types that you should avoid having close relationships with. Let's look at an example and see how this might work.

Leah and Karen work together in an office situation and have jobs that are on equal footing. Leah is an Earth personality and Karen is a Fire personality. They often butt heads due to Leah's tendency to mull things over and take her time before making a decision and Karen's tendency to want things to move quickly. Karen is easily frustrated by her job to begin with because it doesn't always stimulate her need for expressing her passion and creativity and her Fire personality causes her to often want to act before thinking. Leah frustrates her further by wanting to think things through very thoroughly before acting. You can see the problems these two personality types have getting along when they are in a situation that requires them to work together and make joint decisions.

There are a few different ways that Leah and Karen could learn to have better communication that would leave both feeling less frustrated. If they were each aware of their own personality type and each other's type, then they could suggest a division of work that would play to their own strengths. For example for a given problem, Karen could gather data quickly, come up with creative solutions and make her decision on a recommended solution. She could then turn all her work over to Leah to mull over and make a decision. If they do not agree on the solution, then they will need to interact and have communication about it. Being aware of each other's elemental personality, Karen would know that using a slow, deep voice could insure that Leah will be more receptive to what she is saying. Leah would be aware of her tendency to be inflexible and make the extra effort to really listen to Karen, possibly taking her idea and adding a bit of structure to it.

These two personality types at first glance seem like such opposites, but if you really consider each of their strengths, you may find that they could actually complement each other very well in this type situation. Giving Karen tasks that need to be done quickly, that allow her to use creativity and passion and assigning Leah more of the paperwork, computer tasks, and tasks that do not have to have quick decisions but do require organization would work well. So for example if these two women worked in the advertising business, Leah could do in depth research on a product or a new client and then turn this information over to Karen for her to develop some creative campaigns. Leah could then take the campaign and add some solid, practical suggestions. Karen would then do well with creating slides for the presentation while Leah could begin scripting the presentation. According to the personality type of the client, they would decide who would be most compatible with that personality type and the best to do the actual presentation of the campaign.

No matter which personality type or mixture of types you are dealing with, being aware of the strengths and weaknesses can help you use relationship magic to solve most relationship issues. You can get more information about the 4 elements in our four element short courses (email info@shamanschool.com to ask about our current free offer on these classes) and take our Four Element Personality Test to find out your elemental type. Then like with any magical procedure think it through and you can find ways to get the most out of your relationships magically.

Relationship Magic: Take the Guesswork Out of Pleasing Your Partner

For many different reasons, you know people do not always say exactly what they mean or what they want, but using relationship magic can help you have true conversations and take the guesswork out of what your partner really wants. Using your psychic skills, you can communicate with others on a spirit to spirit basis or "read" what the other person really wants in a relationship. There are many different magical techniques that can facilitate a spirit to spirit communication such as using a water bowl or firebowl. You can also develop your psychic abilities to the point that you will be able to "read" others and sense what your partner truly wants.

Learning to Read People Psychically
Here is an exercise that will help you start developing your psychic abilities in learning to "read" other people. Don't get caught up on finding out if your descriptions are right or wrong. At this point there is no right or wrong. Right now you are just practicing tuning in with your psychic powers and psychic abilities instead of your usual five senses or mind chatter. The only goal right now is to practice. The more you practice and get used to using your Spirit abilities the more your observations will improve. So, relax and get ready to start practicing this exercise:

1. Get a pen, paper and a timer or watch.

2. Go to a public place that has lots of people. Restaurants, airports, malls, or a public park are all good places. If you cannot get out then turn the sound off on your TV and use the people you see on it.

3. Pick a comfortable place to sit and where you will not feel self-conscious or obvious. If you feel like you will "stick out" or think others will think you odd for looking at them, this can interfere with the exercise.

4. Pick a person that you are going to observe for 30 seconds.

5. Set your timer for 30 seconds or note the time on your watch and note the time you will stop 30 seconds later.

6. Start writing anything and everything that you can about the person you are observing. Some things you write will be things that can be observed by your 5 senses such as hair color, heavy or thin, type of clothing, or what activities they are doing. The key here is not to think about what you are writing, just write. Do not pause in your writing and write as much as you can, as fast as you can in your 30 second period. This will help you override "mind" and the physical 5 senses observations so that some of your observations will include things you cannot have observed with your 5 senses like that the person has a sensitive nature or has four brothers and works indoors.

7. After your 30 seconds is over, pick another person to observe, set your timer and repeat the process of writing about this person for 30 seconds.

8. Repeat this process until you have observed 10 different people for 30 seconds each over a 5 minute period.

Developing your psychic abilities is a great place to start with relationship magic. Doing exercises such as this one and others you will find in our Psychic Development ebook will allow you to access information that can guide you in a relationship or give you information to help you decide if this is maybe not a relationship you want to pursue. Remember to follow the Rules of the Road and that you have the right to gather information that you can't access with your five senses as long as you stay in accordance with these rules. Unless you are one of those people who have been blessed with a natural psychic gift, you will need to practice, practice, practice exercises such as this one before you start getting reliable results using your psychic abilities. Don't worry though, you have them... everyone does. You just need to get yours out, dust them off and put them to work for you.

If you know what element your personality is, then you can balance with other elements when needing to interact with a person of an incompatible element or to accommodate for certain situations. You can also know what people are good matches with you by determining their elemental make-up.

The Water Element

emotions, feelings, intuition, compassion, empathy, sympathy, knowing, devotion, quest, aspiration, intention, appreciation, integrity, harmony, beauty, balance, serenity, fluidity, grief, apathy, joy, love

The Water Personality

If you are a Water personality you are an empathetic and compassionate person. Other people often turn to you for comfort, love and assurance. You may be involved in causes that take care of others and the planet. Empaths, psychics and healers are often Water personalities. Integrity, compassion, harmony, creating balance and interacting with integrity can all be Water personality values. These type of people are appreciative of beauty and gifts in life. Since they do have a characteristic of empathy so ingrained in their personalities, Water people may find themselves getting over involved in other people's emotions and problems and often taking on their negative energies. They often become over invested in others and take on a caretaking role mistaking that for love. People of this personality type must guard against trying to save or fix everyone and everything and realize that they can better serve through modeling appreciation, gratitude and joy.

The Road to Success With a Water Element Personality
Water personalities will do well in roles in which they are empowered to use their intuitive and empathetic gifts. They need to have interaction with other people, plants, animals or spirit beings to feed their souls. They will also thrive in situations that allow them to spread their appreciation of beauty and joy. Water people need to be in situations that allow them to take good care of themselves first instead of those that insist their needs are put on a back burner in relation to a client's needs or a person's needs that they are in a significant relationship with. Successful situations also include those that allow the Water person to express who they are and stay true to their values.
