Do You Have a Traveling Magickal Toolkit?

Have you ever wished that you could carry your magickal tools with you wherever you go? While that would be nice, most people feel that carrying around a large Athame (magickal knife) or even a long Wand to be a tad awkward. And if you are traveling by plane, airport security is certainly not going to allow you to bring a knife of any size on the plane. So what's a practitioner to do?

Easy... Make your own traveling magickal toolkit with ordinary objects. So long as the ordinary objects fit the requirements for the magickal tool, and are properly cleansed and keyed for your personal use, you won't ever have to go anywhere without your magickal toolkit.

For instance, the Athame, or magickal knife, simply needs to have a point, a blade-like shape, and a handle. The Athame also needs to be made of a single piece of metal. Any object that fits this criteria can be used as easily as a regular Athame. So what could you use? How about a flat pie spatula made of metal? The spatula has a tip (even if it is a rounded tip), a triangular blade-like shape (with no offensive cutting edge), and a handle. A flat spatula like this can be cleansed with the four-elements of the smoke from burning sage and pine resin in a Firebowl (Air and Fire cleansing), plus sea-salt and spring water from a Chalice (Water and Earth). Once cleansed with all four elements, and then keyed so that the energies are aligned in the correct direction (from handle to tip) and personalized to your own energy signature, your pie spatula Athame is ready to go!

The same type of adaptations can be made for any of the most common magickal tools. These include the Firebowl, Wand, Athame, Chalice, and Plate. When you think about how to adapt ordinary objects for use as magickal tools, consider the following characteristics:

  • common items found in any household
  • smaller in size than the same magickal tool used at home
  • only needs to be large enough to be an extension of your own body
  • no offensive points or blades that would prevent air travel
  • materials that are sturdy and difficult to break when traveling

When you think of the above characteristics, more than likely you will find items that are usable to create a magickal toolkit that looks like nothing more than a collection of ordinary items. Properly stored in cotton, separated with some protective packing, and stored in a common pouch such as a messenger bag, and voila! You have traveling magickal toolkit that no one will look at twice.

Thinking in this way, can you see how a small silver goblet, found in almost any thrift store, can become a traveling Chalice? Cleanse and key it, and then wrap it up a bandana or scarf made of cotton, and you are ready to go. A Wand does not need to be a giant branch. How about a small piece of ironwood or even polished coral? Neither of these is likely to break when traveling, while an ordinary twig made of ordinary wood will. Hopefully this will give you some ideas of how to make a wonderful magickal tool kit for traveling and everyday use. Some practitioners make up several of these traveling toolkits and keep one in the car, their purse, and even on the bedside table.

Making Magick a Way of Life

You can make magick a way of life by using magick anywhere you can and taking notice of the results. Most of us are in such a hurry that we don't notice when the magick happens. That's why people say magick happens in the "in betweens", little gaps in our lives where magick slips in. We are usually so preoccupied we fail to notice. But to live a magckal life, you not only need to DO magic everywhere you can, but notice and appreciate how magick is taking place in your life. Be sure to remember also to give thanks when you ask for help and magickal help arrives. Consider The Complete Guide of Witchcraft Rituals & Spells for Beginners, our Book 4 of the Witchcraft Spell Book series of Kindle books for a bunch a neat magickal rituals to include as part of your magickal practice.

Walking In The Rain By Running Water for Fresh Insight
Here's an example of one of the rituals you'll find in this Kindle book that can help you let go of old patterns and habits that interfere with your spiritual growth or enjoyment of life and make room in your life for magick. The element of Water has long been used since tribal times for cleansing and to help in releasing the old and bringing in the new. By walking in the rain by running water, old beliefs that no longer serve were washed away by the running water and new ideas, insights, and inspiration came from above with the rain. Here's how it's done:

1. If you can, find a place in Nature where you can walk in the rain by running water (you would, of course, have to perform this ritual on a rainy day).

2. As you walk by or stand in the running water feel your old beliefs and worries fall away, being carried by the flow of the water to be recycled in some other form, in some other place in the Universe. Also release any repetitive thoughts, feelings of anxiety, and anything negative you want to release.

3. As you stand under the rain, feel the brightness and refreshment of the new bursting into your world-- new ideas, new will to work, new expressions of creativity, and new feelings of all kinds.

If you want, you can also pray to whatever powers and beings inspire you, telling them exactly what you want to release and what you'd like to welcome into your life. For this ritual to work, you need to have running water, not standing water as standing water is stagnant, and therefore does not do a great job of carrying negativity away from you.

But What If It's Not Raining?
If you find yourself needing this ritual at a time when it is raining and can get to a source of running water such as a river or stream, then great; you're all set. More often you will find this situation of rain and getting out into nature by running water does not fit into your schedule or you need the ritual on a sunny day. Instead, you can turn to your shower. Fresh water from above and running water below and chances are you already work a shower into your day. Just follow the same directions as in the above steps using the shower for running water below and falling water from above.

Magick can become a way of life for you just by inviting it in and practicing some type of daily rituals or intentional acts each day. The rain ritual is a great way to clear out your old negative beliefs about your life and clear the way for your new magickal way of life.

Developing a Magickal Practice

Our last newsletter article gave you several daily rituals to explore using to invite magick into your life and discover your own magickal pathway. I hope you have had time to try at least one of these out by now. If not, no worries, you can get started anytime you are ready, but of course there is no time like the present and really you have nothing to lose and everything to gain by getting started. Keep in mind that the more you pay into your magickal practice the more you will get out of it. In other words, the more consistent you are with your practice, the more results you will see. No matter which of the rituals you picked, aim for doing it each day for 40 days in a row. This will help you develop consistency in your practice. Although the goal is to practice your ritual 40 days in a row that is merely the goal to go towards. The consistency comes from the journey on your magickal path. Here's the part that really helps you develop consistency: If you miss a day when aiming for your 40 days, you must start over at day 1. I don't know anyone that has not had to start over at day 1 so don't beat yourself up when it happens. Just know it is all part of the process.

Just to make all this even easier for you and give you the simplest magickal exercise to practice aiming for 40 days in a row, here's the Consistency Exercise.

1. Choose a very simple act (ie. – touching your nose or making a mark on a paper)

2. Pick the time of day that you will do your act every day.

3. When the time you have chosen comes, do the simple act. Do it every day at the same time for 40 days in a row.

4. If you miss a day during your 40 days, which you almost certainly will, you must begin your 40 days over at day 1. Even if you are at day 39 and miss the next day, you start over at 1.

5. Remind yourself the important thing is to do the exercise, not accomplish the goal, so do not berate yourself when you end up missing a day and have to start over.

This exercise works as an act of intention which makes it a magickal act and by choosing a simple intentional act to do every day at the same time then consciously doing it you are able to:
  • increase the level and quality of your connection to the higher
  • bring yourself back to present time
  • invite magick in to be a part of your everyday life
  • build your inner force
  • become more comfortable with practicing your magickal skills in public
  • make changes to your habitual thought patterns.

Try the Consistency Exercise for yourself and keep it going. Then use the same principle using some of the other daily rituals we've presented you. Remember, what you pay into your practice will pay you back in unexpected ways. When you're ready to move on to more magickal learning consider our collection of Kindle books or ebooks that can help you open the doorway and invite even more magic into your life.

Magick Spells Part II: When to Use a Canned Spell

Part I of When to Use a Canned Spell

In Part 1 of this article series we talked about what spellwork can do for you and your options of either learning to do spellwork yourself or hiring a magical practitioner to do one for you. Continuing in that vein, let's take a look at the types of magic spells you will learn about in our Basic Magic Course if you decide you want to master this skill for yourself.

Spellwork Basics
First of all understand that a spell is a magical operation in which you create a spell matrix made up of a number of elements and program it to build momentum and overcome obstacles to produce a particular result over a period of time. In programming a spell it is important to use directors that define specifically what the spell will do and limiters that will define what will not happen as a result of the spell, like safeguards. For example, if you are doing a spell to have a large sum of money come to you, you want to make sure you build limiters into it that insure the money comes from legal means and with no harm to or death of someone else. Without these directions built into the spell it will take the path of least resistance to achieve the goal and that could mean you get what you asked for but in a way you don't want.

Candle Spell
A candle spell uses a single candle and programs it to act in accord with the spell's purpose, directors, limiters and verses. In creating a candle spell you take into consideration the elements needed to build the matrix, the timing of launching the spell in accordance with moon phases or astrological conditions, the symbols you will carve into the candle, the paint you will use to anoint the candle, the directors and limiters needed for the spell, the words you will use in creating spell verses, and the sonics of how you will use your voice to speak the verses. After all this planning is put into place and the steps taken to prepare the candle and verses, the candle is lit and verses are read which launches the spell setting it in motion. Being familiar with the Tarot is another important part of doing spellwork as it allows you to plan for the success of the spell and checkup on the progress of the spell while waiting for final results.

Multiple Candle Spell
Multiple candle spells are good for situations where there are several factors involved or obstacles to overcome. A single candle spell can handle only one or two obstacles whereas a multiple candle spell can handle more. For example, if you are launching a spell to improve your financial situation, this might include several factors such as getting out of debt, changing jobs, changing where you are living, etc... A multiple candle spell can use from two to four candles each assigned a single factor and joined by a carrier candle. The carrier candle that has a right facing eagle carved into it gathers power and programming from the other candles and launches the energy matrix. Make sure the right facing eagle symbol is used as it carries your wishes to the Universe whereas the left facing eagle symbol is the firebird or thunderbird which is a destroyer. As in a single candle spell, you still write directors and limiters, do 12-card Tarot readings to begin and checkup on the spell, carve and anoint your candles, write spell verses and take colors and sonics into consideration.

Tarot Spell
The more complex the problems or issues around your desire are, the more complex spell you need. If you are considering a multiple candle spell and find you would need more than four candles, a Tarot spell is probably a better choice. A Tarot spell can help overcome multiple obstacles. For a tarot spell you need to have a good working knowledge of tarot card meanings and 12-card readings. These type of spells have many of the same preparatory steps like doing a base reading, a reading to see if the spell will work, writing directors and limiters, and writing verses. It is a more complex spell though than single or multiple candle spells and takes a lot more planning and time. Basically a Tarot spell works by using the Tarot cards set up in a 12-card reading pattern representing the situation around which your desire exists. You will see what obstacles there are preventing your desire from coming to you and by making changes in those cards representing obstacles within the spell matrix you set up, you set up those same changes to manifest in the world.

These are just brief explanations of some types of spells you learn how to do when studying spellwork in our Basic Magic Course. As you can probably tell by these brief descriptions there is a lot involved and you need to start with a good magical foundation starting with learning about the four elements. That is why spellwork is taught towards the end of the 30 week Basic Magic Course. Also, know that while there may be much to consider and do in building a spell, the process itself can be fun and the results magical. If you are intrigued and you want to learn more, then studying spellwork is for you. If it all sounds like too much trouble then you will need to find a magical practitioner to create a spell for you. Either way magic spells are a powerful way to solve a lot of problems and make great things happen in your life.

Magickal Worry Stones

When I was very young, my parents gave me a worry stone that was simply a piece of onyx with an indention carved into it. The idea was that I was to rub my thumb in the indention until my worries or anxieties passed. What I didn't know then was that this was not the ideal stone to safely dispense with my negative energies. If you often find yourself in worry mode, you can magickally ground it out safely! Hematite and Apache or Grandmother's Tears are two magickal stones that do not get contaminated by junky energies, so they make perfect worry stones.

Carry one of these stones around in your pocket (or find one made into a necklace). Each time you feel worried, hold the stone in your dominant hand (the one your point with) and flow that worry into the stone. The Apache Tear will flow that energy directly into the half worlds, where it can no longer return to you. The hematite stone will store an enormous amount of worry energy before it needs to be cleansed. You can easily buy two stones (two of the same kind or one of each). Carry one around for a moon cycle and use it. Then bury it in the Earth to be cleansed for a moon cycle and switch to the other stone. Now a worry stone won't guarantee that just because you flow a particular worry (say about money) into the stone, that you won't have that same worry the next time that topic comes up (say you have to pay an unexpected bill). But here is where the magick comes in.

We humans, like Pavlov's dogs, are subject to behavioral training. When we are rewarded with a feeling of relief each time we flow worry into our worry stone, especially after repeated instances of this feeling, then we will flow that emotion into the stone more often. The more often we feel relief, the more our minds realize that we don't have to worry. Not only do we experience a sense of relief, but our minds realize that the world keeps turning even when we stop worrying. And then, presto, when we stop worrying about money and feel more harmonious about the topic more of the time, the Universe sends us more than enough money to cover the bills. Happy feelings in the money department tell the Universe, "Hey, we feel good about money so we can emotionally accept more money now." And the Universe is happy to respond.

Want to learn more about using Apache Tears and other simple magick you can do using materials you can find around your house? Then our Kindle book - Learn How to Do Witchcraft Rituals and Spells with Household Ingredients is the book for you!

Magick Spells Part 1: When To Use a "Canned" Spell

Life like magick is an art as well as a science. To practice magick most effectively, you have to include both creativity and technical "know how" in every magickal act.  But (there's always a "but" right?) not everyone wants to practice magick at the highest level... the level that we call the practice of magick for the sake of magick. Most people can do and want to practice magick either to improve their own lives or to help another person. Using personal magick--for yourself or those close to you--is a great reason to develop a magickal practice, and does not take months or years to perfect. There are thousands of perfectly safe magickal rituals, litanies, chants, spells, and techniques that anyone with the proper intent can use to transform their lives.

And then there are spells...

The "Thing" About Magickal Spells
If you have spent any time browsing our site, you have probably discovered a wealth of no-cost magickal resources for the taking, including:

Within all of these gratis resources, you can learn to use magick to fluff your aura, communicate psychically with others, do some basic weather working, and much more. And you will probably also discover some very basic spellwork, with the Sun Candle blessing being the most often mentioned.

But spellwork is a category of magick unto itself, and that means that you won't find complex spells listed amongst all the no-cost resources on our site. Why? Many reasons:
  • Spellwork is a complicated branch of magick that requires a great deal of dedication and time to perform safely and effectively
  • The number of people willing to dedicate a significant "chunk" of their resources to learn the art of spellwork is small, so we teach only the most advanced of our students how work with spells
  • When spellwork is not done carefully, with all safeguards in place, the practitioner had better be ready for weeks or months or even years of bad luck, calamity, and other mishaps (at least until the spell is properly taken down)
  • Spells are energy matrices that take on lives of their own once launched, growing ever more powerful with each passing day. Turning loose a spell of uncertain pedigree can spell disaster for anyone unlucky enough to be caught in its path.

We could list many more reasons, but you get the picture... spells are complicated energy forms that can transform lives for better or worse. The more powerful the spell, the stronger the transformation (in either direction).

So What Should You Do If You Need Spellwork?
Although this may sound like the $64,000 question, the answer is really quite simple.

1. If you want to learn or use magickal spells to address small uncomplicated issues in your life (such as increasing your chances of a job promotion), then use a "canned" or pre-written spell that has proven to be reliable or has been created by a reliable practitioner.

2. If you want to address a more complicated issue in your life (such as dealing with legal issues that are a tangled jumbled mess), you can still use spellwork, but you probably want to hire a reliable practitioner to design and cast a custom spell for you. The more complex the issues (and the more unintended side effects might be produced) the more you will need a custom spell. The best way to find a reliable practitioner is via word of mouth. Honest magickal practitioners will charge about the same as any professional, such as an accountant or architect.

3. If you have a complicated issue you wish to resolve AND you want to use a spell that you have created yourself, consider taking the online 30-week Basic Magic Course. In this course you will learn the ingredients of a good spell, how to do readings to determine whether a spell is the best magickal technique to use on your problem, and finally how to build and launch a spell matrix from the ground up. This option is not for the faint of heart. On the other hand, once you have mastered this magickal technique the sky is literally the limit. You can easily add new spellwork techniques to your knowledge base, and you can even begin to affect issues outside your own life or your social community. Some of our more advanced students have created, tested, and then launched spell matrices that have effectively blocked the passage of bills through Congress.

Up Next: Spellwork Part II -- Creating Your Own Spell
Want to know more about the process of learning to write, test, and launch your own spells? Keep an eye out for the second part of this series, which will cover the steps most commonly taken to create and launch a spell. Then, armed with this information, you can decide whether you want to use a "canned" spell, hire a reliable practitioner to write a custom spell for you (and most likely launch and track the progress of the spell), or if you want to learn the art of spellwork so you can work your own spells. All three are valid options. Your choice depends on the complexity of the issue at hand as well as the amount of time and resources you want to devote to this craft.

Learn more about how you can create your own magickal spellwork in an upcoming article...

Do You Know Your Magickal ABC's?

In most school systems, children are taught the most basic ideas first, followed perhaps by more complex ideas, and finishing with learning how to string all of these ideas together.

For instance, consider how most students are taught to read and write in grade school. First the child is introduced to the alphabet. Teachers spend time helping students learn how to recognize the 26 letters of the English alphabet (as an example), plus the name of that letter. Next the student might learn how to make the sounds associated with that letter, as in the letter "A" could be pronounced "ay" or "ah."  Helpful tools such as the alphabet song remind students about the name and order of the letters. Next letters are put together to form words, and then words are put in order to create sentences. From there, paragraphs can be written, followed by articles and essays.

This all seems very logical, and many people find this learning process satisfying--learning one aspect of a subject really well before moving onto the next subject. This logical progression means that each new step is built on the knowledge learned in the previous step.

How Most People Approach Magick
Although many people might agree that the act of learning to read or write is best done using a logical method, when magick is the subject at hand then huge numbers of people want to skip the beginning ABC's and jump right into producing term papers... in the case of magick, a complex multi-candle spell would be the equivalent of a term paper.

Somehow the word "magick" causes people to think that the process of learning magick should be just as seemingly non-logical as the effect that magick produces. On a regular basis we receive emails from people all over the world. These emails correspond roughly to this format:

+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=

Dear Esoteric School:
My name is Bob. I have this huge complicated problem in my life [the problem is described here but often with very few details], and I can't seem to solve it through the usual methods or channels. Magick is just the thing I need to fix this problem. I have no experience with magick but I am desperate for help. Please send a spell that will fix this problem right away. Tomorrow will do, but yesterday would be better.
Sincerely,
Bob
P.S. -- I have no money, I am very poor, so please do not ask for money. I am begging you for your merciful help.

How We Respond to These Types of Requests
As you can imagine, in the early days of the school, we received fewer of these requests as we were a relatively new entity. We did try to help people in the best way possible. In case you're wondering, the "best way possible" did not include doing all the legwork for and launching spells in response to every request. Instead, being of the "teach a man to fish" school of thought, we gave people free ebooks, we created article libraries, we addressed common problems with using magick, we taught teleconference classes, and we offered online classes. We offered deeply discounted rates for our online courses and other materials.

We were shocked to discover that less than 7% of people to whom we offered free ebooks or courses ever bothered to read through the material, work through the exercises, and get back to us with results so that we could help them with the next steps.

We used to think that people would say to themselves, "I wish I could wave a magick wand in my life and all of my troubles would disappear."

Now we know that most people say, " I wish that someone ELSE would wave a magick wand in my life and all of my troubles would disappear."

Almost 20 years later, we are no longer shocked when people not only want high level spellwork applied to their lives, but that they want US to create, test, and launch the spell for them, and for no reciprocal payment of course! These days we are older and wiser (we hope) and we simply write back with an email full of links to no-cost resources in our blog, article library, YouTube Channel, "How to Study Magick" tutorial, and even no-cost access to one-third of our 30 week comprehensive Basic Magic course. We then add that we are happy to answer questions about magickal topics covered in these resources.

All of these resources are the ABC's of magick. In fact, a resourceful person willing to dedicate some time and elbow grease into learning from these online resources could learn almost as much as most students in our beginner classes.

Sadly, in response to our email filled-to-the-brim with links, most people write, "Yes thank you for the links but could you do this spell for me?" Nope. Not gonna happen. However, we remain hopeful that there is a group of people out there who really want what magick has to offer, and will follow through in learning their magickal ABCs.

Magick is a spiritual road that can be walked with others and guided by more experienced practitioners... but at the end of the day it is your own desire and motivation that will gain you the necessary magickal knowledge to create the effects you want in your life!

If you are one of those creative people, check out the no-cost access to the first 10 weeks of or 30 week Basic Magic Course. The knowledge is golden and you can start using it right away. Get more details by emailing info@shamanschool.com with the subject line FREE COURSE and we'll send you the details.

Magick To The Rescue Part 3: Find Your Spirit Path

Earlier in this series Magick to the Rescue:
Part 1
Part 2

"If you don't know where you want to go, anywhere will do." -- Chinese Proverb

For many highly-driven people in today's society, not having a goal and direction and purpose is the equivalent of walking blindly through life. Many of us are taught from childhood to always know where we want to go and what we want to do. What if we don't know? Horrors! The shame of it all!

The funny thing about many people who claim that they know where they want to go and what they want to do is that they may know the "where" and "what" of their life, but these may not reflect their true desires. Maybe they are doctors, lawyers, consultants, software programmers, or commanders in the military. And maybe holding such valued positions makes their parents happy. And maybe making their parents or spouses happy makes them happy. But are these people who know the "where and why" of their lives really and truly happy? Or do they simply feel less pressured because others are not constantly pushing them to hold higher and better positions.

The real question is this: Are these people not only happy, but are they walking their Spirit path?

What Is Your Spirit Path?

This is a question that few people ask themselves. What, indeed, is one's Spirit path? The answer is simple. From a magickal and shamanic point of view, a person's Spirit path is the path they chose to walk this lifetime. This choice was made during the interval between the last lifetime and this lifetime. Or, depending on whether one believes in multiple lifetimes, one could simply say that this choice was made before incarnating in this lifetime.

Having and following a Spirit path does not mean a person is fated to do certain things in this lifetime, with no choices or options. Instead, a Spirit path is designed so that a person encounters certain circumstances, events, people, and dilemmas. The confluence of all of these factors are designed to allow that person to learn certain lessons, complete certain entanglements with other people, clean up old fears, pay old debts to others, and any number of other lessons.

The Spirit path is full of choices and options and lessons. Some of these will be easy and some will be more difficult. Some of these lessons can be so difficult that a person may choose to "opt out" of this lifetime, either to try again in another lifetime or abandon this lifetime altogether.
The most important factor to remember about one's Spirit path is that one can always do a "Stop-Change-Start." A "Stop-Change-Start" is exactly what it sounds like. Suppose you can't handle a lesson that you designed for yourself on your Spirit path. The lesson is too difficult and you cannot find your way through the lesson. No problem. At any point on your Spirit path you can opt to do a "Stop-Change-Start," That is, you can decide that you want to stop the progress of a particular lesson, change the circumstances so you take a detour on your Spirit path, and start walking a new Spirit path. As humans, one of our greatest gifts (and greatest curses) is that we have complete free will. While we may have thought that a particular lesson was the perfect idea between lifetimes, we may start learning that lesson during our current lifetime only to discover that the lesson isn't appropriate at all. That's when we exercise our free will and change the circumstances and walk a different route on our Spirit path.

Regardless of whether you follow the Spirit path that you designed prior to this lifetime or not, as long as you walk your Spirit path you will get a lot out of it. Whether you learn certain lessons, clear up old karmic debts, undo old entanglements with others, or discover new Spiritual skills and talents, walking your Spirit path will give you a major Spiritual boost and advance you along your Spiritual development so that you ascend one or more levels in your Spiritual evolution.

How to Find Your Spirit Path

How does one go about discovering one's Spirit path or find out whether one is already walking one's Spirit path? There are as many different ways as there are Spiritual leaders, books, and so forth. But you don't need a guru to help you discover your Spiritual path, although you will most likely encounter many angels and higher beings if you invite them into your life to help you. Here are some simple ways to discover your Spirit path.

#1 -- Revisit Your Old Wounds

One of the best indicators of the lessons you are meant to learn on your Spirit path is the wounds you have encountered so far in your life. These wounds are usually mental or emotional, or sometimes physical. Look back to when you have felt most wounded by some situation. Often the situation feels unfair and unjustified. For instance, perhaps you were laid off from your job or passed over for promotion. Perhaps your child was born with some terrible illness requiring constant care, preventing you from following your dreams. Or maybe you had an encounter with a series of people that hurt you emotionally, so much so that you think of it often or cannot sleep because of it.

Whatever your old wounds, these are indicators of lessons you are to learn. How can you get past the heartache and pain that these old wounds have inflicted upon you? If you can find no way to get around such pain, ask an angel or the Spirit of Owl for help.  If you are not sure how to work with these beings take a look at our articles - How to Amp Up Your Relationship with the Universe, Spirit Guides: Guardian Angel Prayer and Another Magical Ritual to Help You See Your Financial Blind Spots. Or get a deck of Medicine Cards (easily available online) and do a spread as instructed in the book. Or simply shuffle the deck and pull the first card that calls to you. Read the meaning of the particular animal card you chose and read the meaning in the book. This simple method is often enough to give you the information you seek.

#2 -- Use the Conscious Choice Exercise

The Conscious Choice exercise is exactly how it sounds. You simply go through your day and make Conscious Choices. This type of choice, as opposed to the choices we make by habit each day, is a way of receiving direct communication from your Spirit.

Start this exercise with small choices in your life. For instance, use this exercise to decide what you will eat for breakfast each day, or what clothes you choose to wear. To do this exercise, simply make a choice by first saying, "I will now make a Conscious Choice. Do I choose to ...[put the choice here] or choose to... [put second choice here]." Then follow the first response you receive. You may hear the choice as your own voice in your mind, or you may hear some commentary on TV. However you get your answer, just know that you will get an immediate response. Even if the answer is simply a feeling, follow that response. The key to this exercise is that you MUST follow the first response you get. The choice has been made. This is the reason for starting with small decisions. After all, how much heartache can you suffer from eating cereal rather than toast for breakfast?
After you have done this exercise for 7 or 11 days, and feel comfortable, move on to bigger decisions. Depending on your level of comfort with risk, upgrade the level of your decisions at a rate that is comfortable with your level of risk. As you move to bigger and bigger decisions. The bigger decisions will guide you with certainty along your Spirit path. You will begin to recognize when you are following your Spirit path by a feeling or inner taste. Trust this and you will walk your certain path with no problem.

#3 -- Do Something You Fear Each Day

Eleanor Roosevelt was famous for saying this. And she was right. Fears are the markers of lessons we need to learn or debts we have to pay. As with the Conscious Choice exercise, start small and work your way up. Start with small fears, such as wearing socks that don't match or speaking up in a group setting when you would normally remain silent. As you gain confidence that you have the ability to walk where you feared to walk in the past, move slowly up the levels of fear. Learn to trust the fact that though fear may always be present, it no longer needs to block your path or prevent your forward progress on your Spirit path. Instead, let fear simply remain in your life, but ask fear to walk beside you instead of in front of you. In this way, as you move up the ladder of fears, as you feel comfortable doing so, you will begin to see fear as a friendly companion, marking the way along your Spiritual path. Let fear become a beacon, guiding you from place to place, walking beside you, now acting as a lighthouse rather than a barrier.
Often fear is a marker of a lesson that we must learn. Yet fear remains fear, and often we cannot face fear without the help of others. Seek out the type of help that most suits you. Read stories of people who have conquered greater fears than you have ever imagined... and you will find that your fears shrink to a manageable level. Seek help in flower essences such as Mimulus, which is a wonderful essence to help you get past known fears. Hire an angel--there are always hundreds begging for you to ask them for help. Or,even better, use the Conscious Choice exercise to discover tools and skills to help you put fear in its proper place--as a companion who walks with you and helps rather than hinders your progress on your Spirit path.
