How to Self-Defend with Magick

As magicians, it’s important to study the area of self-defense carefully since we have considerable power and force. The inappropriate use of that power and force can cause Universal backlash. We must be especially careful to control our tempers and not use our abilities reactively. According to Western magical practice, “You have a right to be here and follow your own path so long as you hinder no one else in doing likewise.” This foundational principle asserts our right to exist and follow our own path and by extension, our right to defend ourselves against those who might seek to prevent us from walking our path. As you grow in magical ability, you will inevitably attract beings on different levels that seek to interfere with your path in some way.

Here’s a good rule of thumb to use when it comes to self-defense: “In cases of direct and violent personal harm you are entitled to defend yourself by any means available, provided you did nothing to encourage or provoke the attack.” Let’s break that rule down into its component parts to study it in greater detail.

  1. Direct: Upon your body, mind or spirit. A direct threat in a spiritual, magical and shamanic context includes attempts by any outside force or influence to drain your energy or impose their will upon you.
  2. Violent: Anything that’s damaging to your physical, mental, emotional or spiritual well being. It doesn’t matter what the attacker’s intentions are, or whether he or she “means” to harm you. Remember, Rules of the Road states that the Universe does not care what a person intends to do, only what a person actually does.
  3. Encourage: Creating or permitting unnecessary opportunities for a known hostile being to attack you.
  4. Provoke: Being excessively pushy when you know someone has a sore spot or is under a lot of internal or external stress.
  5. By Any Means Available: Using any means you choose to defend yourself when attacked. As long as the other parts of the above self-defense rule are met, the Universe does not care whether your response is excessive. In many spiritual systems, it is actually considered a crime to not defend yourself appropriately. In doing so, you are enabling the perpetrator to NOT learn spiritually appropriate behavior; therefore, prolonging his or her lack of growth. In general, any infringement on your sacred psychic or emotional space gives you the right to defend yourself.
We hope this helps you guys understand a little bit better when and where it is appropriate to use Magick to defend yourself. Learn how to defend yourself magickally by taking our Magickal Self Defense Course!

7 Protection Magic Rituals You Should Practice

When it comes to defending yourself against a variety of forms of attack, protection magic is very effective. However, magicians must be careful when using protection magic because we have considerable power and force. The inappropriate use of that power and force can cause Universal backlash. We therefore must be careful to control our tempers and not use magical protection from attackers in a reactive manner. When it comes to protection magic a good rule of thumb to remember is that you have the right to exist and follow your own path and by extension, your right to defend yourself against those who might seek to prevent you from walking your path.

Protection Magic: 7 Techniques
There are basically 7 protection magic techniques that can be used either separately or in combination. They are:
1. Rooting and Grounding – used with excess noise, aggression, anger or general fire energies in your space.

2. Hand Lightning – used to stop someone invading your space or preventing an attack.

3. Lightning Rod – used to send back an attacker's energy or to boost your own energy.

4. Fireballs – used for self defense from attack and to warm a cold room.

5. Fireball Messages – used for sending extremely severe messages to an adversary.

6. Fire Half Shields – used as energy shield to protect yourself from attack.

7. Sonic Self Defense – used to stop attackers in their tracks with the use of your voice.

Protection Magic: Grounding Exercise
Here's an exercise you can try out on Grounding for magical protection from a person who is angry and directing that anger towards you or using it to disrupt your space.

With Grounding you pull excess fire energy from another person or the environment, flowing it through your body and pushing it into an electrical ground.

  • Find a source of the energy color you want to pull (anger is red-orange) to look at as a reference

  • Locate an electrical ground like an outlet, light switch or a sink (uses water pipes running into earth). This is where you will flow the excess fire energy to for it to be safely grounded.

  • Put your output hand (hand you point with) or your foot on the electrical ground if possible. If that is not possible, you can point your output hand toward the electrical ground, but make sure no living thing comes between you and the ground.

  • Pull excess fire energies in through your input hand, through your body and out of your output hand into the electrical ground.

  • Keep pulling until the anger is gone. This usually takes two minutes or less according to how angry the person is, thus how much excess fire energy they have.

You can use this technique discreetly and the person you are pulling the fire energy from need not be aware that you are doing it. All they know is that the anger subsides in them. Protection Magic: Use Your Voice for Self-Protection

Sonics is a very interesting form of protection magic that requires nothing more than your voice. It is one of the many magical self-defense techniques covered in our Magical Self Defense homestudy course. There's no magical tools, candles to light or anything other than your own voice so you can use this form of protection magic anytime, anywhere. You can literally stop an attacker in his tracks according to the voice you use.

To use sonics as a tool for protection magic, you first need to have an understanding of the 8 voices of command, the elements associated with them and the effect each voice can produce. It then takes practice to be able to use each voice in bringing about the desired effect. First let's look at the 4 elements and the types of sounds associated with them.

Elemental Sounds
1. Air – These sounds are soft, light and breathy. They are high pitched, do not carry over long distances and have don't contain much vibration. These type of sounds are useful in confusing someone or reducing excess fire. For example, you may have noticed a time when confronted with someone yelling, you could make them stop yelling by whispering something to them.

2. Fire – These sounds are shrill, clear, bright or cutting. They are high pitched and carry over longer distance. They are attention grabbing.

3. Water – These sounds are soft, rolling, caressing type sounds. They have a mid-range pitch and can carry fairly well over distance. They have a noticeable vibratory effect and an effect on emotions.

4. Earth – These sounds are heavy, drumming, low pitched sounds that have a definite vibration and do not carry well over distance. They are sometimes hard to hear with the ears and hard to locate.

Before you are in a situation where you need to use protection magic, it is a good idea to practice these types of sounds, identify sounds you make and hear other make and classify them according to their element. Then consider these 8 voices of command and practice them so that when the need arises, you will know the type of voice to use in the specific situation.

Voices of Command
1. Business and Teaching – This is mostly a water element voice with a little fire for vitality and a little earth for solidity. It has a mid-range pitch with varying flow pattern and a slight edge to it. It is not a harsh voice, but is intense and focused. This voice is useful for business transactions or teaching situations or to begin a communication with someone who is tired, bored or a bit depressed.

2. Friendliness – This is another voice that is mostly a water element, but has a bit of air, fire and earth mixed in. It is a lower tone than the Business and Teaching voice, but still mid-range in pitch. The flow is smooth, soft or slightly husky with a relaxed intensity. This voice is more caressing and has a relaxing effect, but not to the point of causing sleepiness or unconsciousness. This is a useful voice in personal and social situations or in calming down someone who is anxious or tense.

3. Irritation – This voice is mostly fire with some air and a bit of water. The pitch is higher than the Business and Teaching voice and has a jerky or choppy flow pattern. It is a bit shrill and abrupt and can be irritating or grating to the listener causing them nervous discomfort but not anger. It is a good voice to use with someone who is extremely tired or very depressed and with getting a nosy neighbor or gossipy person to leave you alone.

4. Anger – This voice is high in equal parts fire and earth with just a little water to create "steam". The pitch is similar to the Friendliness voice only with a choppy or jerky flow to it. The tone has an edge or grating quality about it and can be very abrupt. This is a useful voice in dealing with someone who is exhausted, or has taken too many tranquilizers or any situation you need to get the person active quickly.

5. Fear – This voice is high in air with just enough fire to deliver it clearly to the listener and shake them up a bit. It has a high pitch with a choppy, irregular flow. It has a whiny or nasal tone with a slight whisper. It is meant to make the listener uncomfortable without becoming hostile and cause them uncertainty or anxiety. This is a good voice to use in getting rid of pesky people like pushy salespeople, nosy neighbors and uninvited intruders without using open conflict.

6. Motion – This voice is half fire and half water with just a bit of air. The pitch is similar to the Business and Teaching voice, but with shrill or edgy tones. It is high in intensity throughout the whole time you use it which will generally only be a few words of command and it is very abrupt. It causes motion when there is none which makes it useful in emergency situations to get immediate actions. It is most often used with commands like "Run", "Wake Up", "Move".

7. Stillness – This voice is half water and half earth. It is low in pitch and has sudden bursts in the flow. It is slightly husky and has a heavy vibration with no edge or sharpness. It is used to stop motion such as in an emergency where you need someone to stop moving. It is usually used with short commands such as "Wait", "Don't move", "Stop that". Do not use this voice with the command "Stop" as it can stop everything including the heart. Always use "Stop" with another word attached such as "Stop walking", "Stop that", unless of course you are confronting an attacker that means you physical harm, then you are within your rights under the magical rules of self defense to use just the word "Stop". Just be aware that it can stun or even be fatal for the attacker. Focusing your attention towards the head can stun and focusing towards the heart can cause serious heart or nueral system damage and can be fatal.

8. Calmness – This voice is mostly water and earth with a little air. It has a low to medium pitch and is basically a combination of Stillness and Friendliness voices. It is a bit husky and has a smooth flow with a mild vibration. It is used to relieve nervous and muscular tension, calm tempers or turbulent situations, induce sleep or a trance in a calm person. This is a good voice to use when confronted with an angry, hysterical or fearful person.

Using Sonics for Protection Magic
Now that you have an idea of the different voices and what they can do, there are a few other things to take into consideration when using sonics for protection magic. First, stay focused on the person you are dealing with so that you don't affect others nearby. The sounds will go to wherever you focus your attention as you are speaking. This is especially important to consider with voices that can travel over longer distances. Second, practice, practice and practice. When practicing you can use a buddy or record yourself to listen to yourself. Notice when using the various voices how they affect you in your mood, emotions, your body, your nervous system and any other effects. The more you practice the better you will get at using sonics.

According to the voice of command you use, you can get others to act accordingly in an emergency situation, rid yourself of irritating people, deal with angry confrontations and even stop an attacker that means you physical harm. Sonics is a great magical technique to use when you need protection magic. So get practicing and be ready before you face a situation that calls for magical self-defense.

How to Do Voodoo: Moving Someone Away from You

We've all had the experience of people being in our vicinity who are less than pleasant, be it a bothersome neighbor or a criminal on the loose in the neighborhood.

With lousy neighbors, if you have tried traditional approaches--such as discussing problems with them or even bringing in law enforcement--to no avail, you still have magical options. The same is true of potentially dangerous people you cannot pinpoint, like burglars committing crimes in your neighborhood. You have no idea as to the identity of the burglars, so what can you do other than beefing up security on your property?

Magically, you do have recourse. You can learn how to do voodoo.

What can voodoo do for you in this case, you ask? Voodoo, or simulacra magic (as we like to call it), can help you move the person out of your sacred space. In fact, simulacra magic can move the person across the country if you so wish. We call this procedure "map moving."

How to Do Voodoo: Map Moving
In principle, map moving is nothing more than a set of simple steps in simulacra magic done in sequence. In case you don't know how to do voodoo (or simulacra magic), all we mean when we say simulacra magic is that we take an object that is a likeness of a person or thing, and we magically connect the object to the person or thing. Once thus magically connected, whatever is done to the object is likewise done to the person or thing.

For instance, you can key a figurine (a voodoo doll, in other words) or a picture to a person. Or you can key a map to a geographic location. To do the map moving magical procedure, you would need to key both. In principle, here is how you would achieve a successful map moving magical act:

1. Key a figurine to the person you wish to move. You can do this by simply holding the figurine in your dominant hand and flowing energy into it while you think thoughts or imagine images of the person. When the figurine feels tingly or hot, it has been keyed. Set the figurine carefully aside.
2. Key two maps to their geographic location. One map would contain the person's current location (be sure the map is large enough that you can mark the person's house). The other map would represent the location to which you will be moving the person.
3. Using a keyed plate (a magical plate that is personalized to your energies), put the person on the map on his or her current location (in a safe place). Leave the tools set up for a week. This associates a person with his or her current location.
4. Next, put the plate between the person and the map. This disassociates the person from his or her current location in preparation for moving. Leave this setup in place for a week.
5. Now replace the map under the plate with the second map, which contains the location of where you want to move the person (in one instance, we placed a map containing the location of the police station in preparation for moving a burglar to the station). Leave this setup in place for a week.
6. Finally, put the map on the plate, and the person on the exact location where you want him or her to be moved. In the case of the burglar, we put the simulacra (otherwise known as the voodoo doll) on the new desired location. With the burglar, we put the simulacra right on top of the police station. The person eventually turned himself in to the police without any further direct physical action on anyone else's part.

Learning how to do voodoo can be pretty neat, huh? You can learn specifically how to do this and other voodoo procedures in our "How To Do Voodoo" ebook.

How to Do Voodoo: Caveats
With magic, as with everything else, there are of course caveats. If you want to do a procedure like map moving, you have to be sure that you are "in the right," so to speak. That means you need to know and ensure that you are operating within the magical laws of:

1. Self Defense
2. Rules of the Road

If that be so, then you are all clear to do all kinds of simulacra magic for protection, attraction, manifestation, invisibility, and much more! All of this is covered in the Voodoo ebook.

Magical Self-Defense: When to Use It

When to Use Magical Self-Defense

As magicians, it's important to study the area of self-defense carefully since we have considerable power and force. The inappropriate use of that power and force can cause Universal backlash. We must be especially careful to control our tempers and not use our abilities reactively.

According to Western magical practice, "You have a right to be here and follow your own path so long as you hinder no one else in doing likewise." This foundational principle asserts our right to exist and follow our own path and by extension, our right to defend ourselves against those who might seek to prevent us from walking our path.

As you grow in magical ability, you will inevitably attract beings on different levels that seek to interfere with your path in some way. Writer Clarissa Estes, author of Women Who Run With the Wolves, so accurately states, "If you have beauty in your life, know that it will attract the dark as well as the light. Don't be surprised. Be prepared."

Here's a good rule of thumb to use when it comes to self-defense:

"In cases of direct and violent personal harm you are entitled to defend yourself by any means available, provided you did nothing to encourage or provoke the attack."

Online Magic Tip #21: Want to do Magic? Don't be Negative!

One of the most common requests that we receive is from people who want to perform "revenge spells." Unfortunately (or fortunately) the term "revenge spell" is an oxymoron. Most people think of revenge when they feel they've been wronged ... and are feeling very negative! That's why a magic spell won't work ... because negativity and magic are mutually exclusive.

To understand why this is so, you need to understand why magic is so magical. Magic is really nothing more than the Operating Laws of the Universe working as they should. Unfortunately, most people operate under the Law of Accident, which is on a level lower than the Operating Laws of the Universe. Magic can't operate at the level of the Law of Accident-it's too low. When a person who normally lives at the Law of Accident becomes positive enough to raise their energy to the next level, what seems like magic happens! It's really just the Operating Laws of the Universe, but it appears to be magic.

All of this is a long-winded explanation of why revenge spells don't often work. Self-defense spells, when done with a cool head and positive energy, do work. But if you wait until you feel downright negative before you start looking at magic, forget it. You have to be positive and upright (virtuous) in your self-defense for magic to work.

You can practice self-defense magically according to this law (as penned by Reverend George Dew):

"In cases of direct and violent personal harm you are entitled to defend yourself by any means available provided you did nothing to encourage or provoke the attack."
