Getting Mad? 3 Magical Rituals to Avoid Flaming Out

The mortgage payment is due, the kids have gone nuts, and the dishwasher just leaked water all over the floor.

Feeling mad or upset yet?

These days there seem to be endless reasons for us to lose our tempers, everything from small annoyances (like the cell phone battery dying in the middle of a good chat) to the really big stuff (like job loss).

But wait, don't flame out! There are simple magical rituals and solutions to help you avoid getting mad or, if you are already mad, to keep you from staying mad.

3 Magic Rituals to Keep You from Flaming Out!

There are actually many magic rituals that help deal with the "fire energy" of anger, and here are three of my favorites: the ground out, the Apache tear, and the big burn. Fun stuff ... and useful, too!

#1: Ground Out Your Anger Magically
This magical ritual involves large appliances, like your refrigerator or your stove. Whenever you are angry, run over to your refrigerator, smack both palms on it, and just flow that "mad energy" right into the fridge. It will chill you out, quickly.

Now why does this work? This magic ritual works because anger, volatile as it is, is nothing more than one of the four elemental energies of the Universe: fire energy. The Universe is comprised of air, fire, water, and earth energies. Anger is just fire energy. The reason anger doesn't feel good is because when we are angry we have an excess of fire energy. It literally blows our circuits, which doesn't feel so great.

So when you flow all of that energy into a large appliance, like your fridge, you are magically dumping that excess fire energy into a safe, grounded source that can handle fire energy. Once the excess fire energy has left your body, you feel more balanced, and you will no longer feel angry. This also works with other grounded electrical sources such as light switches and electrical outlets, but don't try this on sensitive electronics like computers or radios. You will fry them in an instant! This is a fun magic ritual so give it a try the next time you are flaming mad!

#2: Send Your Anger to the Half Worlds with the Apache Tear

The Apache Tear, also called Grandmother's Tear, is the black obsidian stone, also called volcanic glass. Magically, the Apache Tear is known as a doorway to the half-worlds, a place from which you can move anywhere in time and space. While you can't get into the half-worlds with the Apache Tear (you need a black mirror for that), you can send any unwanted energies, like anger, into the half-world through this stone.

All you have to do is hold the stone in your dominant hand (the hand with which you point) and flow all of your anger into the stone. With this magic ritual, the stone will send the fire energy of your energy into the half-worlds, where it will be recycled again. Remember, anger energy isn't a bad thing, it is just an excess of fire energy. Fire energy can and is easily re-used in the half-worlds.

The beauty of the Apache Tear is that it is a doorway, not a storage receptacle. That means you can flow energy into this stone over and over without being afraid that it will store up your anger and, at some point, overflow. Pretty nifty, right? With other stones used in magical rituals, like hematite or quartz crystals, energy gets stored in the stone, and the stone has the be magically cleansed periodically. You don't have that kind of problem with the Apache Tear.

#3: The Big Burn Magic Ritual
I love this one because it matches the energy of anger so well: it burns! Plus, it's really simple to do, not to mention highly satisfying. All you need for this magic ritual is a pen, some paper, some matches, and a safe place to burn stuff (sometimes a giant metal cauldron works great!).

When you are mad, sit down and write everything that is making you mad. Pour it all out on paper, as fast and furious as you can. Write as many pages as necessary, and feel free to repeat yourself as many times as you want. There's no limit. Write until you literally run out of steam.

Now for the good part of this magic ritual--the big burn! Grab your papers and matches and move to the spot where you can (safely) burn the papers. Before you light up, take a moment to do whatever you need to move the anger out of you. Ask for help from angels, ask for guidance, or just have a moment of silence. And then, light up the papers and watch your anger go up in smoke. You can light each sheet individually (that's what I like best), or wad up the whole mess of papers and light the entire thing.

Whatever you do with this magic ritual, enjoy the heck out of it. Be safe about your burning, and then enjoy, enjoy, enjoy! It's not often that we have permission to do somewhat destructive acts like this, so go ahead and milk it for all it's worth!

Magic That Works: What to Do If Magic Has Failed You Before

People often confuse magic that works or real magic with fantasy or fictional magic and then wonder why their magical acts have failed. There have been many books, movies and TV shows lately that involve magic and witchcraft as the main themes. The Harry Potter books, Practical Magic, Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, and Charmed are a few of the more popular ones. These fictional offerings have been really good at getting more people interested in magic and witchcraft, but the practices these fictional characters employ are not all factual. For example, Harry Potter and his friends and foes use their Wands as multi-purpose tools to conduct all four magical elements – Air, Fire, Water and Earth. In reality, to make magic that works, the Wand is only useful with the element Air. The element Air is associated with messages, communication, thinking, or planning. A wand on the other hand is not good for conducting fire energies mainly because it is made of wood and wood burns.

What is Real Magic?
Magic that works consists of practical, proven, and effective spells and rituals that follow Universal Laws and is very real. Magic and witchcraft have been around for thousands of years and are a precise science. These practices used to be taught and were considered as important as math, science or the arts, but sadly this is no longer true. Everyone has the abilities, but they are not nurtured as in the past nor are we instructed on magical techniques. The practices are still the birthright of every planetary citizen and the information is still available to those who seek it. In our new Kindle book series, our mission is to make this ancient wisdom available to all those that wish to claim their birthright and use magic that works in their lives.

What Will Real Magic Do For Me?
Those who already have a magical practice in their lives can attest to the amazing changes magic and witchcraft can make in their lives. Magic as a precision science allows for deliberate creation, effective prayer, manifesting Higher Will on energetic and material planes, heightened awareness, selective perception, dynamic harmonious relationships and the study of intention. Aleister Crowley, one of the greatest magical practitioners of all time, was a master of using intention and through his work we learn that every intentional act is an act of magic. Magic and witchcraft are the study of intention and a creation system, not coercion. A misunderstanding of this is where some people believe magic has failed them. If your goal is not in alignment with the Universe or you are performing a technique based on fictional principles rather than real principles, it may seem to you that magic has failed you. Through the study of magic you can come to understand the actual workings of the Universe through direct experience thus gaining the ability do things like communicate with beings on all levels, begin on a path of spiritual growth, balance your energies for healing and manifestations, change old beliefs, defend yourself against physical and psychic attack, heal yourself and others, find hidden information and see possible futures, psychically communicate with other beings, create sacred space, find lost objects and people, and manifest what you want and need in life.

Hopefully you now see the difference between fictional or fantasy magic and the real thing and understand what a real magical practice can add to your life. If you're ready to get started learning about witchcraft and magic, a good place to start (that won't break your budget) is our new Kindle book series. The first book in the series is Learn How to Do Witchcraft Rituals and Spells with Your Bare Hands and available now HERE. So check it out and let the magic begin!!

Magic for When It Is All Too Bloody Much!

It is all too bloody much!

That came in an email the other day from someone who had been hit with calamity after calamity ... everything from fender-benders to sick kids to pay cuts at work.

It was just too much and this person wanted to know what he could do, magically, about his situation. It's a good question, and he's not the only one asking it.

Magical Solutions When Life is Too Bloody Much
This is an important topic to address because a lot of people often find life a little too hard to bear. Many people are waking each day to minor calamities, from tooth abscesses to broken computers to relationships that are falling apart. It's like life as we know it is falling part.

So what do we do magically to alleviate this problem? After all, when life as we know it falls apart, it's not a good thing. Luckily, we can take magical steps towards a happier future.

Three Magical Steps when Life is Falling Apart
I like to keep things simple in magic because life is complicated enough. There's no point in making your magical practice complicated as well, right? So here are three magical steps you can take if your life is, well, falling apart at the seams.

1. Don't panic. (duh!)
2. Choose one very, very simple magic ritual you like.
3. Become a slave to the magic ritual.

So let me explain. These three steps really work, and I've deliberately made them sort of inflammatory to make a point. So bear with me. Let's take it one step at a time.

1. Don't Panic
The "Well, duh!" factor is pretty high on this step, but is has to be said. After all, what's the first thing we are programmed to do when a calamity occurs in our lives? PANIC! Yup, sheer unadulterated panic. So learning how NOT to panic is pretty important. By Law of Attraction, panic attracts more things to panic about. So learn to back off the panic a hair or two. Go with, say, annoyance or light cursing to start with. You probably can't go from panic to happy, but you can take a step back from panic and satisfy yourself with a few curse words. So practice, practice, practice not panicking. This is important. Consider it a crucial part of your magical training. You have to master this step, at least somewhat, before moving on to the next step.

2. Choose One Very, Very Simple Magical Ritual You Like
This step is pretty logical. Magical rituals are useful because they create magical effects in your life. The more your life if falling apart, the more magic you need in your life. So you'll need a magic ritual you can use when something calamitous happens in your life. So pick a magic ritual, any ritual, that you like and that is simple. Remember, when you are focused on not panicking, you won't have a lot of brainpower left to do a complicated magic ritual.

Some magic rituals I like include the Navajo Beauty Way Exit Ritual, the Sun Candle, and hiring angels. You can read about all of those here:

Navajo Beauty Way
Sun Candle
Hiring Angels

Or make up your own ritual. You can also get a bunch of simple magic rituals in our Daily Rituals ebook, which contains tons of rituals and teaches you how to create your own. In any case, pick a ritual, learn it well, and keep it handy.

Daily Rituals Ebook

3. Become a Slave to the Magic Ritual
This sounds kind of extreme, but it's actually a very common principle in many esoteric and tribal practices. The gist of it is this: there can only be one "most important" thing in your life, and that thing will either be intentional magic or it will an accidental life event. In many magical traditions, students are instructed to choose an aim (or ritual) and to make that aim their god in life. Why? Because the aim or ritual is intentional, which means it creates a very precise and pre-determined effect. A wanted effect.

This effect acts as an antidote against all the "accidents" that otherwise occur in life: the fender-benders, the sick kids, the reduced paycheck, and other calamities. So being a slave to your chosen magical ritual simply means putting more attention on that ritual than on the current calamity.

Here's how it would work. Suppose you choose the magic ritual of hiring an angel. Now suppose you get into a fender bender. Step 1: don't panic--just mutter a couple curse words under your breath. Step 2: Whip out your magic ritual. Step 3: If possible, hire an angel to fix this mess (before you even get out of the car to deal with the other driver).

Pretty simple, right? By putting your magic ritual ahead acts on the physical plane, you attract more magic and intention, and fewer accidents. I'm assuming, of course, that the fender bender is minor and you have 15 seconds to hire an angel before hopping out of the car. If not, use common sense and take care of business first and hire an angel later. Just remember to put your emphasis on the idea that magic is more important than panicking about the life situation.

This simple three-step magical process works really well during turbulent times. Even if you are not going through “turbulent times” right now, practicing these steps now can help you prepare for when they do come. Really. Magic works, it really does.

Three Magic Rituals to Start Your Day

If you are a true magical practitioner then magic is part of life, not something you do separate from your everyday life. Therefore magical rituals should be a part of life, which means that, for the most part, they need to be fairly simple, not requiring lots of tools, smoke, and mirrors.

If you want to have magic in your life, you have to practice magic all the time. Think that's too hard or that you don't have enough time to do that? Think again.

My Three Magic Rituals To Start the Day
I do at least three separate magic rituals every single day first thing, and it's no sweat, really. Want to know what they are? Simple.

1. Sit
Sitting, or meditating, is one of the best ways to invite magic into your life. I sit every single morning and surround myself with quiet. I tend to sit in lotus position, because it's a stable position and I like it, but you don't have to. Just sit (or lie down if sitting is too uncomfortable). It doesn't matter whether you sit for 5 minutes for 50 ... just as long as you are quiet for long enough that the magic can slip into your life, between your thoughts as it were. The magic happens in the space between thoughts.

2. Greet the Day
I go out and greet the day using the Navajo Beauty Way Day Greetings every single morning before doing anything else. It's my way of making contact with powers and beings, acknowledging their presence, making any special requests for help, and generally getting in touch with my magical allies.

3. Do a Reading
I'm usually reading some esoteric text or other, and I'll spend a few minutes in the morning immersing myself in some good spiritual material. I like readings from Gurdjieff, Abraham-Hicks, Carlos Castaneda, Edgar Cayce, and some more esoteric authors as well. A lot of people like to pull a card from the Medicine Cards or Sacred Path Cards, or flip open an angel book to get an "angel thought" for the day. Whatever floats your boat, pull some spiritual material from somewhere to get your day started on a magical footing. Abraham has an email Quote of the Day that you can subscribe to  and that can count too.

All three of these little rituals take about 30 minutes total. That's not a whole lot of time to dedicate to living a truly magical life, and that's about all the Universe requires to bring the magic into your life. Get started with bringing magic into your life by incorporating magic rituals into your life. Need help picking daily rituals? Check out our Daily Rituals for Attracting What You Want in Life ebook for ideas.

May the Force Be With You ... No Really!

In certain esoteric circles, a lot of attention is given to the accumulation of "force." The more force a magical practitioner has, the more effective her magical rituals and intentions will be. No wonder Luke was always concerned about "the force"!

The neat thing about force is that it helps you be more effective in daily life as well. So force is a good thing all around.

Many of the daily magical rituals that we describe on our website and this blog help you accumulate force in your magical practice. One area that we have not touched upon much is that of timing. It is one thing to gather and accumulate force. The use of force – or more specifically, having access to magical force when you need it – is another matter.

This is where timing becomes important. When you feel tired, depressed, hopeless, or otherwise "down" you will not be able to access your force without taking certain steps. For instance, moving your emotional tone up from depression to anger will give you more access to your force because anger is a more "forceful" emotion than depression. Of course, anger also wastes quite a bit of force, so sometimes the use of anger negates its own energy.

One method for accessing force when you need it is to practice the art of timing. When you feel down, you won't be able to access your force. You probably know yourself well enough to know what triggers cause you to feel negative, as well as what actions or events uplift your spirits.

If you need to perform a magical ritual but have no force, don't perform the ritual now. Wait. Eventually the timing is right for everything, including your magical ritual. You may want to have everything for your ritual prepared so you can launch into action the moment you feel your force returning.

Even if you need some force at your job--in which case force could translate into inspiration, ideas, or will--the art of timing will help. If you feel dead inside, a total lack of force, then don't try to work on a project that calls for inspiration. Instead, turn your attention to something else. Go take a brisk walk to get your physical energy moving. Often the energy of physical movement transfers to your intellectual and emotional centers. If this happens, then you will feel your force returning. You will feel moved by your muses and excited by the possibilities.

The moral of this tale? When in the doldrums, just wait. Your force will return. It always does. May the force be with you!

Get Magical Answers with a Question Circle

In these uncertain times people are actively seeking answers to problems ranging from job loss to foreclosure. If you need some magical guidance from powers and beings, a question circle may be just the ticket for you.

A question circle is a magical ritual where you ask for help and guidance from the winds of the four directions. It's a simple ritual and you only need a few tools which you can pick up at your local supermarket.

Here's what you'll need: a sun yellow candle on a plate or in glass, paper or wooden matches, pen, and paper. You may also need a compass to help you figure out the cardinal directions of east, south, west, and north.

How to Do a Magical Question Circle
Once you've gathered your materials and have located the cardinal directions, light your yellow candle with your matches. Then, follow the steps below.

1) Bring your candle, pen, and paper to the east quarter of your circle. Sit facing the outside of the circle (facing east). Ask the Winds of Knowledge what you need to know about your situation, and get quite inside as you wait for the answer. Be prepared to write down everything that comes to you. Don't think about it, just write. Keep writing until you no longer receive information. Thank the Winds of Knowledge and move to the next step.

2) Move to the south, and sit facing south. Ask the Winds of Power to show you what actions you need to take for your situation. Again, write any answers that come to you. Thank the Winds of Power.

3) Move to the next quarter, in the west, and sit facing west. Ask the Winds of Feeling what emotional shifts you need to make regarding your situation. In addition, you may want to ask for spiritual enlightenment. Thank the Winds of Feeling, and then move to the next quarter.

4) Move to the north, and sit facing north. Ask the Winds of Strength how you can build a foundation for the future you want. Ask for practical guidance about your situation. Thank the Winds of Strength.

5) Finally, move back to the center of your circle and sit facing east. Read through the answers that have come to you from each direction. Slowly digest the information. You may want to repeat the question circle several times, at different times, until you get clarity on your situation.

Enjoy!

The Beauty of the Navajo Beauty Way

For almost three decades I have been practicing and using the Navajo Beauty Way as a form of magical practice. Used by the Navajo tribe when they were being moved from their native lands onto reservations, the Beauty Way (in various forms) has actually been used in tribal traditions from very ancient times. It is an incredible magical ritual that helps you connect with higher powers and beings and restore a state of inner peace and harmony. It is also a form of "magic spell work in action" that can be done without great effort but to great effect.

We have introduced the Navajo Beauty Way to many of you in articles covering Day Greetings and Day Endings, and the Walking Litany. We hear from people all the time how the effect of this 3 part ritual is truly magical. Participants have all kinds of magical interactions, and learn to see magic in many new ways. The effect has been so strong from those we've heard from, that I definitely want to introduce it to more people. Hence, this blog post!

The Beauty and Magic of This Ritual
Before I dive into the "how," I want to give you the "why" for the Beauty Way. In other words, what does the Beauty Way do for you? Here's a list to get you started.

The Navajo Beauty way is a non-denominational set of exercises from very ancient times, designed to:
  • Restore personal power through developing trust in one's wisdom gained through personal experience
  • Enhance creative flow and one's connection to the environment and nature's laws and forces
  • Help us learn new skills and use new tools for observing and maintaining harmonious and pro-active inner states
  • Develop a practical working relationship with higher powers and beings or natural forces and laws
  • Create stability and choice in walking in different realities and worlds.
  • Being safe and protected without the need to build walls or hide behind masks.
  • Establish and maintain contact with higher powers and beings or natural forces and laws so as to live in compliance with and gain support in our creative endeavors.
  • Maintain spiritual integrity for individuals or groups during times of high external change and stress.
  • Preserve cultural and spiritual identity beyond the efficacy of sociological myths in times of breakdown, and restructuring of communities, tribes or nations.
  • Restore the balance both internally and externally between the feminine aspect of integration and oneness, and the masculine aspect of separation and duality.
Powerful magic, isn't it?

Dive Into the Beauty Way
So history lesson aside, let's dive right into the Beauty Way. There's no sense in knowing about a magical ritual if you can't use it, right? The Beauty Way has three different forms:

1. Exit Ritual
2. Day Greetings and Endings
3. Walking Litany

We'll start with the simplest form, the Exit Ritual. The Exit Ritual helps us connect with higher powers and beings multiple times during the day. Connecting us with powers and beings is useful because they can help us get back into that feeling of peace and serenity. They exist at a higher level than we do, so it's often easier for us to ask them for help rather than trying to do it all ourselves. The Exit Ritual also realigns our chi or life force, which can become distorted from working and living in buildings with strong electromagnetic fields.

How to Do the Exit Ritual

To do the Exit Ritual, follow this procedure every time you leave an enclosed space such as a car, building or house:

1. Extend your focus up into the sky and say aloud, "Sky Above." The reason we extend our focus first is that the Exit Ritual is a form of asking favor from powers and beings so it is appropriate that we go to them rather than asking them to come to us. In ritual, when we have carefully prepared sacred space, we can invite them in and then bid them farewell.

2. While keeping your awareness above, extend your focus into the earth and say aloud, "And Earth Below."

3. Then, keeping awareness of both above and below, say aloud, "I Greet You."

4. Wait a moment and see what happens. Be alert for acknowledgement or response in one of these three ways:

- From within you, such as a realization, a change of attitude or belief, a new awareness.

- Changes in your environment, such as a sudden breeze, a change in the color of the sky, a bird or animal suddenly appearing visually or vocally, or a tree or shrub suddenly becoming vividly visible.

- A response from Sky and/or Earth: a special message for you, an answer to a question, or guidance and new directions.

5. What happens may happen in just that moment, or it may happen throughout the day. It may change the quality of your day, your awareness...whatever you notice. You may also want to use hand gestures: Arms raised in a upward facing V for "Sky Father" and arms down in a downward facing V for "Earth Mother."

Sound good? Dive right in. Have issues, questions, or comments? Post a comment to the blog. We love hearing about magic!

The Magic of Idleness: Balm of Gilead for a Type A Culture

What do you do when you have to come up with something creative and you've got nothing?

Then do nothing.

Use the magic of idleness, of nothingness, to combat your own nothingness.

What?!?

Idleness and the Magic of Duplication
You've heard of the phrase "the hair of the dog," right? This colloquial British phrase refers to dosing yourself with alcohol to treat the effects of a hangover.

Originally, the phrase dates back to the practice of laying a few hairs from a dog that bit you over the bite wound to prevent infection and other resulting health problems.

This principle is also the fundamental basis of homeopathy, as well as the magic principle called the Law of Duplication. The Law of Duplication says:

"No two things that are exactly alike can exist in the same time and space."

So, by the Law of Duplication, if you've got absolutely "nothing" in your reserves to inspire you for your creative task, duplicate it out magically with another form of nothingness. Do nothing. Think about nothing. Try nothing. Fill yourself with nothingness, and your feeling of "nothingness" will disappear.

This is the magical power of idleness, and this magic is particularly powerful in our culture, which is Type-A gone crazy. We try to be human doings all the time instead of human beings, which means that we leave no room for the Universe to do its magic. We're so busy filling up all of our time and space that there's literally no way the Universe can bring us what we want.

Want More Simple Magic Rituals?
Magic doesn't have to be complicated, and should in fact be simple and practical, easy to integrate into everyday life. If you want more daily magical rituals that you can practice, check out these resources:

The Magic of Flying Blind

The phrase about the blind leading the blind has always been used scornfully to mean that certain people don't know what they are doing. But perversely, from a magical point of view, we often use blindness with purpose, so that we can sharpen our other senses, our spirit senses.

Magic and One Way to Fly Blind
In many self-empowerment workshops you will encounter a very simple exercise that captures the essence of flying blind: it's called the blind date. You partner up with someone and close your eyes. Your partner leads you around by the hand, first at a walk, then perhaps at a jog. You must put your complete trust in your partner not to run you into a wall or other people who are also on a blind date.

If you have ever done this exercise, then you know what happens. After a while, your other senses, like your sense of hearing, smell, or touch, increase to accommodate your temporary lack of sight. The same thing happens in magic. When you deliberately shut off one of your senses, like sight, you have a better chance of improving your spirit senses.

A Very Simple Magic Ritual to Practice Flying Blind
There are many magic rituals where we deliberately close our eyes or use blindfolds, but it is best to start out with a very simple magical exercise. This one can be done anytime you talk on the phone with another person, assuming you are sitting down rather than driving down the road chatting on your cell phone.

As you speak to the person on the other end of the phone, close your eyes. Now visualize what the other person is doing. Are they sitting down? If so, what is their posture? Are they walking around their house? Extend your perceptions. Can you tell what they are thinking or if you can predict what they will say next?

If you have difficulty with visualization, imagine yourself extending your senses through the phone line until they reach the other person. This often helps people get in touch with their spirit senses, which are crucial for most magic rituals.

Jot down any insights, visions, or information that comes to you through your spirit senses. If you like, you can ask the other person a question or two to verify whether your spirit senses are correct. It really doesn't matter whether you are correct in the beginning. The goal is to locate, use, and develop your spirit senses.

Do this exercise for at least 10 phone conversations. You will notice a definite increase in the amount of psychic or spirit-sense information that you receive. If, after doing this exercise 10 times, you don't feel that you have located or used your spirit senses, have 10 more phone conversations with your eyes open. You might be surprised at how much physical sight interferes with your spirit senses. Most people receive far less spirit-sense data when they have their eyes open.

Make sense? Have fun with this. For more fun and practical magic rituals and exercises, check out our ebooks, and our home study courses.

On the Magic of the "In-Betweens"

Magic lives in the "in-between" moments of our world. Think about it. Do you ever wonder why children can see fairies and angels, but adults usually can't? It's because as adults we have learned to see the concrete fixed objects in our world, not the shadows between the objects. We've learned to focus our attention on the tasks of our day, not the moments between tasks. In other words, we've lost the magic of the "in betweens" in our lives.

Why Magic Happens "In-Between"
If you read a lot of different esoteric authors, you'll find that most of them tell the same message, which is that magic tends to appear in-between things rather than directly. For instance, Carlos Castaneda writes about how Don Juan taught him to view the world in terms of the shadows that were present, instead of seeing the world of light. Other writers talk about the real essence of music is the space between the notes, rather than the notes themselves. Meditation masters strive to lengthen the gap between thoughts, so the magic can slip in and miracles can happen.

So why does magic happen "in-between"? Because by its definition magic is, well, magical. It surprises and astonishes us. It seems miraculous, impossible, and amazing. By definition, none of the things we can see, touch, and move directly in this world meet those criteria. It's not magic if we take a lot of action and achieve something. It is magic if we wish for something but take no action, and our wish becomes manifest.

How to Expand Your "In-Between" for More Magic
There are lots of magical ways to create and expand the "in-between" moments in your life, so magic can sneak up on you and surprise you. Flipping your world on its head is one fun way to do this. How do you flip your world upside down? Easy. Here are three ways to get you started:

1. See the World in Terms of Shadow
This is the exercise Don Juan gave to Carlos Castaneda. With this exercise when you look at a scene, try to see only the shadows, not the objects in the light.

2. Listen for Silence
We are constantly drowning in sound, even though we may not notice it. During the day, see if you can hear the silence instead of any concrete sound. What is the sound of silence? Many people hear it as a low ringing or buzzing in their ears, and some magical practitioners actually use this sound as a magical power source for spell work and other energy work.

3. Create Pauses Between Action and Reaction
Most of the time, we cruise around the world mechanically, and react automatically to any stimulus that hits our senses. When someone says, "Hi!" we automatically respond with a "Hi, how are ya?" We may not even really notice the interaction, or remember it later. To create more in-between times in your day, create a pause between the time a stimulus hits your senses and the time you respond. For instance, when someone says, "Hey, how are ya?" instead of sending back an automatic reply, take a moment to pause, stop, look the person in the eyes, and then reply. This pause can take all of one second, but the deliberate insertion of a pause between input and output creates an "in-between" moment. You can do the same thing when the phone rings. Stop a moment before your reach out to answer the phone ... wait for a couple of rings ... and then answer.

What kinds of magic will creep into these deliberately created moments between things? Only you will know. Magic can be very personal at the level of these exercises, so how it manifests in your life will also be personal. Be on the lookout for the magic, though, because the more "in-betweens" you create, the more magic will show up in your life!

Making Graceful Life Transitions

I recently was gifted with the experience of observing a friend go through a fairly major life transition that affected every member of her family. While this process is happening all the time to at least a certain population of the planet, what made this experience so special was experiencing the grace, intention, and determination with which she walked through this transition.
Because of the beauty of this experience I began reflecting that many of us face transitions and change with resistance (if not downright horror!), which causes the transitions to be choppy and filled with stops and starts rather than smooth and graceful. I then reflected on the many steps my friend took to ease the way for her transition, and how those steps were rituals that kept her path straight and narrow.
I’d like to share some of the rituals and remedies that she used to make her life transition a joyful one filled with gifts, along with a few of my own.
Flower Essences
Flower essences are generally taken 4 drops, 4 times as day. Rescue Remedy can be taken as often as needed.
  • Walnut: Excellent for all kinds of life transitions, clears old habit patterns, helps you find your direction free from the influence of others.
  • Cherry Plum: Trust in the intuitive guidance of life, also called the “letting go and letting God” essence
  • Rescue Remedy: A five flower essence created by Bach that helps in all traumatic and trying situations.
Colors
  • Sun Yellow: Burning a sun yellow candle for 30 minutes or more will nourish your spirit vitality and help you make clear, birth-vision oriented choices.
  • Sky Blue: Surrounding yourself with sky blue or wearing sky blue will connect you with spirit and free you from mind’s chatter.
Angels
  • Hire an Angel: There is an angel for everything you need. To hire an angel, just say, “I’d like to hire an angel specializing in [state your desire].” Wait a few seconds, then make your request, which might go something like this: “Angel of [your desire], I request your help in walking with me through this life transition so that I see all the gifts and beauty that are part of this process. Thank you in advance.” Then, at the end of the day or throughout the experience, thank your angel again. Appreciation is necessary in working with angels!
Rituals
  • Pendulum: If a particular life transition seems to be dragging on too long, you can spin a pendulum clockwise until it stops, with the intention that the pendulum is clearing any stagnant energies associated with the situations.
  • Walk in the Rain: Walking in the rain, especially by running water, helps to clear out old energies and bring fresh insights into a life transition. The running water carries away the old and the rain brings in the new!
There are hundreds of different steps you can take to smooth any life transition – these are just a few of my favorites. To learn more about these steps, get copies of these two ebooks:

Keying Your Magic Tools for Personal Use

I recently started wearing this fabulous pewter dragon bracelet as part of a spell I launched. I very much wanted the energies of the dragon as part of my magic spell, so the bracelet was a perfect match.

I have received a lot of comments on the dragon bracelet, especially since we are in Cancun, Mexico for five weeks and this is not the usual "tourist-type" jewelry.

Several people have asked me why I wear the bracelet and how I use it for my magic practice. This fascinates most people endlessly, and they are eager to get their own talisman or amulet from our online store as soon as they get home to the States.

I'm delighted that others are as fascinated with the bracelet as I am, and while I definitely want them to enjoy the same kind of dragon magic I'm getting from the bracelet, I warn them that just having the bracelet isn't enough. The bracelet, like any magical tool, has to be "keyed" to a person's unique energies so that it works for them. Otherwise, it's just a bracelet.

How to Key General Magic Tools
There are specific ways to key the tools for each of the four elements (Air, Fire, Water, and Earth), but if you want to use a general magic tool, like my bracelet, there is a very simple way to "key" it so that it works with your personal and unique energies. Here's how:

1. Put the object in your dominant hand (usually the hand with which you point or write)

2. Hold the object and flow energy into it. If you want to use the tool for a specific purpose, flow images or thoughts about that purpose through your hand as well. I sometimes also chant a spell verse while doing this.

3. Continue with this process until the magic tool feels "charged," warm, or tingly. At that point, your magic tool has been keyed to your specific energy, and will work for you personally.

This generally works well for any general magic tool. For the specific tools associated with the magical elements, including the Firebowl, Wand, Athame, Chalice, and Plate, there are more detailed keying instructions since these tools are designed to handle much more magical energy. These tools can also be used many ways for different magic rituals and operations, especially spell work, banishments, blessings, and cleansings.

To learn more about how to key and use these tools, check out our ebooks on each tool in our online store.

Dowsing Magic: A Step-by-Step Guide

Sometimes simple magic works the best. One of the forms of magic I often enjoy is dowsing with a pendulum. Using a pendulum is one of the most basic yet satisfying magic rituals, plus dowsing magic is really easy to learn.

If you need answers, and who doesn't these days, try a quickie dowsing sessions with a pendulum. Whether you want to know if your brother-in-law is going to get drunk again this weekend or if you're going to meet your soul-mate, pendulums can give you fast and solid answers for yes/no questions you might have about any aspect of your life.

What is a Pendulum?
A pendulum is any lightweight object suspended from a string or chain. It is a magical tool that becomes a natural extension of you, and can access any and all information that exists in the Universe. You just have to know which questions to ask.

For instance, a pendulum can reveal your body's own native wisdom. It can indicate whether certain supplements or flower essences will improve your health. It can also reveal whether a health problem stems from a particular organ or an emotional source. Dowsing with a pendulum is a simple form of magic that has a remarkable number of applications.

How to Make a Pendulum
Anyone can make a pendulum. You just need a lightweight object plus a chain or some string. You can use paper clips, small rocks, earrings, hairpins, pendants, small medallions, crystals and talismans. If you want to use a crystal, use an amethyst, and store any kind of crystal you use in a pewter box, which protects it from negative energy. Don't use Aurora crystals, which have been treated with petroleum.

If you choose to hang your pendulum on a chain, use a silver chain. You can also hang your pendulum on any kind of natural fiber such as cotton or silk, horse or human hair or leather.

Training Your Pendulum for Dowsing Magic
Once you've made your pendulum your next step is to train it for dowsing magic, so that it answers your questions quickly and accurately. Here's how:

1. First four-element cleanse your pendulum with smoke. The smoke from burning pine resin and sage works well.

2. Next, key your pendulum so that it responds to your energies. To key it, hold your pendulum in your dominant hand (the hand you write or point with). Flow energy into the pendulum for a minute or two, or until it grows warm and tingly.

3. Begin training your pendulum by establishing its yes and no directions. Decide if you want your pendulum to indicate "yes" with a vertical or horizontal swing. The "no" indicator will be the opposite of the "yes" indicator (if "yes" is a vertical swing, then "no" is a horizontal swing).

It's often easier to dowse while sitting, so get in a comfortable position and hold your pendulum suspended from your dominant hand. Make sure the pendulum is on a long enough chain or string to swing freely. Rest your elbow on a table or your knee to stabilize your hand.

Swing your pendulum in a gentle clockwise circle and tell it, "Show me yes." Wait for the pendulum to settle into the proper swing (whatever direction you chose). If it doesn't, ask again.

Once your pendulum consistently swings in the proper direction for "yes," use the same process to ask it to show you the proper swing for "no."

4. Finally, start training your pendulum to give you actual answers by practicing asking questions about short futures. Ask yes/no questions that can be verified in a 15 to 30 minute time frame. For instance, at the end of the work day you might ask your pendulum, "Will my roommate be home in the next 20 minutes?" Verify the correctness of your pendulum's answer, and then ask another question.

It actually doesn't matter whether your pendulum gives you the correct answer or not. It's more important to give your pendulum a lot of practice with dowsing magic. The more your work with your pendulum, the more accurate it will become. Don't get obsessed with the "rightness" of the answers during this training period.

Asking the Right Questions
At this stage, your pendulum can answer any yes/no question. How you phrase your questions will determine the accuracy of the answers. The general principle for asking questions in dowsing magic, as in spell work, is, "Be precise!"

For instance, if you ask your pendulum, "Will it rain today?" and your pendulum says, "Yes," don't be surprised if you don't see a drop of rain that day. Was your pendulum wrong? No. It probably rained somewhere in the world that day. Since you didn't ask for a precise location, your pendulum could not give you a precise answer.

As with everything else, practice makes perfect when it comes to dowsing magic. To remind yourself to practice, take your pendulum with you in your pocket or purse (wrapped in a piece of silk or in a small pouch) and use it any time you have a few minutes to yourself. You'll be surprised at how many opportunities you will have to use it!

Hope you enjoyed this step-by-step guide on making a pendulum and dowsing magic! You can create your own pendulum or if you prefer to buy one already made, check out the selection offered in our school store.

The Magic of Making the Right Decision

Whether you are looking at the Mayan Calendar or the economic forecast, you can tell we are living in a topsy-turvy world, a world in which it can seem hard to make the right decisions in life. Eenie, meenie, miney, moe ...

If you are having difficulty figuring out how to make the "right" decisions for your life, here's a quote that can offer you some comfort. This quote comes from Abraham-Hicks:

"Make a decision and then make it right. There just are no wrong decisions ... But in the moment you start complimenting yourself on the decision you've made, in that moment, you come back into vibrational alignment with who-you-really-are."

There Are No Wrong Decisions
What Abraham refers to in the quote above is that there are no wrong decisions. The "rightness" of a decision is based solely on how you feel about the decision. Feel bad about a decision you have made, and prepare for the decision to drag your life into the toilet. Feel good about a decision, and watch the good things in your life soar.

There are no wrong decisions, so any decision you make will be right so long as you can manage to feel good about that decision. Should you use a pendulum, a question circle, or a tarot card reading to help you make a decision? Sure, if performing those magic rituals will help you feel more secure about your decision. Do as many magic rituals as you need prior to making a decision if that helps you make the decision "right."

Ways to Affirm a Decision with Magic
Once you have made a decision, feeling good about that decision may be a matter of reaffirming the decision daily with magic rituals. For instance, we recently made the decision to take on another rescue horse, this one a giant baby Hughie who eats a lot. The decision wasn't hard to make: he had some health issues we could definitely help him with.

But like everyone, we sometimes wake up in the middle of the night with doubts, fears, and insecurities. If I wake up feeling negative about my decision, I go right outside (no matter what time it is) and do the Day Greeting from the Navajo Beauty Way. Normally used to start one's day, this greeting can be used to "restart" a day at any time of the day or night.

Just last night, around 2 AM, I got up and used this magic ritual. As I greeted each direction, I reaffirmed that the decision to adopt this rescue horse was correct. I asked the Old Ones of each direction to support my decision with positive manifestations. This morning, as I look out at the new rescue horse, I feel only good vibes with no negative undertones. As I go out to do my second set of Day Greetings for the day, this time in the morning, I feel uplifted and happy. I have made a decision and I keep making it right by using magic rituals on a daily basis.

What About You?
Do you have a decision to make that is weighing on you? If so, don't let such a decision hang over your head like the Sword of Damocles. Use whatever magic rituals you need to help you make the decision, and then make the decision. On a daily basis after that, make the decision right. Use whatever means necessary to do so.

- Hire an angel
- Do the Navajo Beauty Way
- Get help from your animal totem

You are not helpless, and there are ranks of unemployed angels, animal totems, and other beings just waiting for you to ask for help. So go ahead, ask! You'll be surprised at how quickly your decision can be made right ... literally in an instant!

To Cast Stronger Magic Spells Never Complain and Never Explain

Winston Churchill was well known for saying "Never complain, never explain," and when it comes to building force and strength in your magical practice, Churchill had the right equation.

People contact us all the time asking about how they can cast stronger magic spells. Sometimes they complain that their spells had no effect.

Sometimes the effect was less than expected. And sometimes a spell that didn't work so well for one person worked great for another.

So what's the difference?

Sources of Force in Casting Stronger Magic Spells
When you get right down to it, a spell is nothing more than a formalized intention supported by any powers and beings you might invite to help. A spell is the formalization of your own intention ... your desire to create a specific effect in the world.

Does a spell have power in and of itself? Yes. A spell has many sources of power outside of your own desire and force, including:

- higher powers and beings that respond to magic
- the force of magical practitioners who have used the spell before
- the power sound, as found in litanies, chants, and drumming
- the strength of any keyed magical tools used during the spell
- the force of symbols, which are doorways to actual sources of power
- and so forth ...

But, having said all of that, to cast stronger magic spells you always have to examine yourself. You are the most powerful driving force of any magical spell. So then the question becomes, how can you increase your own force so that you can cast stronger magic spells?

Building Your Own Force to Cast Strong Magic Spells
There are many magic rituals that can help you build force, and almost any positive magic ritual done on a CONSISTENT basis will increase your force. But going back to Winston Churchill's quote of "never complain, never explain," I have to say that this is one of my favorite ways to increase inner force. Magically, it makes sense. Here's why.

Never Complain
Complaining, as you have probably already experienced, puts you in a negative state of being. While you may feel better in the moment, as you complain, what you are actually doing is spending focused time manifesting what you don't want (i.e., whatever you are complaining about). So stop complaining already.

Actually, quitting the habit of complaining can be almost as difficult as kicking a smoking habit or any other addiction. So here are three tips that might help:

1. Even if you are complaining and nattering to yourself inside, do everything in your power not to express the complaint outwardly. Outer silence comes before inner silence.

2. If you really need to vent, give yourself five minutes a day and let it all hang out. Write it down in a journal or call a good friend. Then, let 'er rip. The rest of the day, don't complain.

3. To quiet either inner or outer complaint, when you feel the urge, tell yourself, "I'll let myself complain in five minutes." Five minutes later, tell yourself the same thing. This technique is known to work well for both smokers and complainers.

If you limit complaining for 40 days, you'll be amazed at how much your inner force increases, which will have a positive effect not just in terms of casting magic spells, but also in terms of improving your life overall. Well, duh, right? But it had to be said.

Never Explain
This is the part where most magical practitioners lose the most force. There is always the temptation to "explain" what we are doing and why to other people, for a variety of reasons.

Many of us just like to feel like we are not alone on the journey, so there's the temptation to explain our magic to friends who are not magical practitioners. Other times, we might feel the need to show off or demonstrate our powers, especially when challenged by non-believers.

Whatever the reason, explaining the use of magic goes against one of the primary Rules of the Road (the universal laws that govern magical practice). Created by George Dew, these rules hold true whether you believe them or not. The one that specifically applies to the "never explain" clause is this one:

"Never use magic for show, pride, or vainglory. Using magic to show off, to prove a point, or from a place of injured pride usually results in side-bands (undesirable side effects) to the operation that will bring very undesirable backlash from the Universe."

So even if you feel sorely tempted, never explain your magic, don't. In esoteric practice, there is something called the "hermetic seal." This seal refers to the practice of keeping certain aspects of your magical practice compartmentalized, away from public view.

While we definitely believe that certain magic rituals should be integrated into daily life, such as the Navajo Beauty Way, if you want to increase your force as a magical practitioner, keep a hermetic seal around most of your magical practice, especially spell work. In other words, if you want to cast stronger magic spells, keep your mouth shut about it.

I have no idea whether Winston Churchill practiced any form of magic or not, but the guy hit the nail on the head when he said "Never complain, never explain." To increase the force of your magic spells, try following this dictum for 40 days or so. If you manage it, even partly, you'll be both pleased and surprised by the result!

The Risk of Being Happy and Magic That Can Help

Read any self-help book or sit at the feet of any magic guru and you will pretty much end up with the same message:

"Get happy and then life will work out for you."

Sounds like a great idea, right? Here's a quote that I like even better. It's from Abraham and it makes it crystal clear where happiness ranks on the list: at the top!

"You just cannot burn the candle at both ends, so that you are physically tired, and then expect yourself to have a cheerful attitude. So the rule of thumb has to be: 'I'm going to be very, very, very happy and then do everything I have time to do after that."

Capische? Can't get clearer than that. So why doesn't that happen? Ah, therein lies the rub. The rub is the risk involved in happiness.

The Risk of Happiness
That sounds kind of stupid right? After all, how can there be risk associated with happiness? Happiness is a good thing. And yet, in most people's minds there is a huge risk in happiness: it's the risk of trusting the process, of trusting that everything will turn out all right in the end.

If you put your faith in the process and then the whole thing goes wonky, then you've risked your happiness and your faith. Right?

In other words, if you put happiness at the top of your list, as the quote above suggests, and then do everything you have time to do after that, there is the risk that you might not get to all the tasks that pay the bills ... you know, like your day job. There's also the risk that what makes you happy is going to make some other people unhappy. Or how about the risk that you chase after something that you think is going to make you happy, only to discover that it doesn't make you happy after all? Now you are disenchanted, you've lost your job, and you have made tons of people unhappy.

You never knew happiness was such a minefield, did you?

That's an exaggeration, of course, but it does highlight the fact that most people associate risk with happiness, even if it's at a subconscious level. The bottom line is that the process of learning to be happy is an experiment. It's a work in progress. It's a juggling act and one has to face the risk of dropping a few balls here and there ... or even a lot of balls.

How to Decrease the Risk Associated with Being Happy
At the end of the day, though, happiness is still the main thing. According to the Hopi, our purpose here on Earth is to "sound a joyous note to Creator's ear." We sound that joyous note by being happy. So how can you be happy without all the risk? Here are three ideas to get you started.

Happiness Idea #1: Accept that Being Happy is an Experiment
Not all experiments turn out with the expected results, but that's the nature of an experiment. You can't know the result of an experiment (otherwise why bother?), which means that any result is acceptable. ANY result will do. That's the beauty of an experiment. This takes the burden off of you to "get it right." Suppose you make a decision to be happy by doing something that pleases you. Perhaps you end up with a mixed result; you've made yourself very happy but made your spouse very unhappy. Consider the result as "data" from your experiment.

The next time you embark on a happiness experiment, modify it a little bit to see if you can achieve happier overall results. You can modify it all kinds of ways. Maybe you find a way to get happy that doesn't affect your spouse. Maybe you find a way to mollify your spouse. Maybe you decide to care a little less about your spouse being angry. Get the picture?

Happiness Idea #2: Get Some Help
High unemployment isn't just a problem among ordinary people right now ... angels are experiencing the same problem. There are literally thousands of angels standing in the unemployment line, just waiting for assignments where they can help people like you. Why are there so many unemployed angels? Because we live in a Type-A society where we think we have to do it all ourselves. The adage, "If you want something done right, do it yourself" was coined just for our society.

So as you try various experiments to get happy, hire some angels to help your experiments turn out better. Ask angels to soften the blow for any unexpected consequences. Hire other angels to give you more foresight so you can plan better. Hire yet more angels to help you get happy faster and more smoothly. Get it?

Also, check out our "10 Magic Quick Fixes for Your Life" Ebook for more simple ways to get magical help. Even better... it's FREE! That should make you happy!

Happiness Idea #3: Own a Day of Happiness
If your life is so full of responsibility that you can't just "chuck it all" and go on a happy-fest, then pick one day out of a week (or a month) that will be your day of happiness. Choose to "own" this day. Make it your very own. On this one day, tell everyone else in your life to bugger off. Dump your responsibilities. Go a little nuts ... or go a lot nuts. Whatever. Sometimes, when we feel "owned" by our lives, we have to break out of that mold. We have to own our lives rather than being owned by life. It's only one single day and the world won't end just because you're not there tending to all your responsibilities. As one of my magical teachers used to say to me when I thought the world couldn't live without me, "Oh honey, you're not that powerful!"

Onwards, upwards, outwards ... towards happiness we go!

Magic Should Be Practical

The practice of magic is and should be practical. It should be a part of daily life: practical, prosaic, pragmatic, and all but unnoticeable to the untrained eye if you do it right. Don't get me wrong--I love all the pomp and circumstance of big magic rituals as much as the next practitioner, but as a daily affair magic should be practical enough to fit between going to work and running errands.

Magic should be small enough to be done on the way to a big meeting with your boss at work without anyone looking at you funny, yet powerful enough to create the effect you want at the big meeting.

After all, what's the use of magic if you have to have a cloak and dagger, not to mention a literal bag of magical tools, before you can do any magic?

Practical Magic Can Be Done
Magic is made practical by daily practice. Practical and practice, now those two words are related! Practical magic can be divided into two categories: private and public. Private magic rituals are the ones that you do at home, before you set off to work or after your kids have gone to bed. They are the rituals that you don't want observed or disturbed by others. Public rituals are the ones that you integrate into the parts of your day that you spend around other people. Some practitioners do public rituals with panache, while others integrate public rituals subtly and beneath the notice of others.

Regardless of if they are public or private, one thing is definite: daily rituals have to be kept simple or you won't have the time or perseverance to practice them daily. Simplicity is the key to successful practical magic.

Some Private Daily Magic Rituals
Private magic rituals are the acts of power you do to start your day, reaffirm your personal power, recap your day, or pay into your magical bank account. Here's a list of some simple rituals you can do in private that can have a powerful effect:

- meditation (even a 5 minute sit has magical properties)
- burn a Sun Candle (to brighten energy or call something to you)
- Navajo Beauty Way (a way to connect wit higher beings)
- a "card of the day" (pull a Tarot or Medicine Card to give your day a magical theme)
- ask for a sign from the Universe (practice in calling for and seeing signs makes perfect)

The list of daily magic rituals you could do is endless (learn more rituals and how to create your own in our Daily Rituals ebook), but the goal is to select one or two that you do every single blessed day as a way to keep your feet firmly planted on the magical path. Even 5 minutes a day of ritual practice can greatly increase your magical force over the course of a year.

Public Daily Magic Rituals
Private magic rituals are in some ways easier, since you don't have to deal with the prying eyes of curious coworkers or friends. Of course, if you don't mind practicing magic in public (I don't) then public displays of magic are really no big deal. But if you prefer a more subtle route, there are plenty of ways to do magic in public without anyone noticing.

One of my favorite magic rituals that you can do in public without anyone noticing is the consistency exercise. As the name implies, the aim of this ritual is to help you develop inner force through consistency.

The Consistency Exercise
For this exercise, pick a very simple act to perform at the same time every day. The act could be scratching your nose, touching your thumb and forefinger together, making a mark on a sheet of paper, or rolling your eyes in a clockwise direction. It doesn't matter what the act is, so long as it is simple and you can perform it in public.

Next, choose the time at which you will perform your act every day. Since this is to be a public magic ritual, pick a time during the day when you are likely to be around other people, such as during working hours.

Finally, commence to do your daily ritual act every day at the appointed time. You are definitely encouraged to use cell phones, pagers, or sticky notes to remind yourself to do your magical act. This isn't a memory test ... it's a reminder to come back to present time and remember that you are a magical practitioner. Do your act every day at the appointed time for 40 days straight. If you miss a day, start over again with day one. Forty days of doing the consistency exercise does two things: it helps you build enormous inner force and it helps you learn to practice magic in public.

Sounds like fun, doesn't it? What kinds of magical acts do you know of that are practical, prosaic, pragmatic, and can be done in public? Do share!
