Getting Mad? 3 Magical Rituals to Avoid Flaming Out

The mortgage payment is due, the kids have gone nuts, and the dishwasher just leaked water all over the floor.

Feeling mad or upset yet?

These days there seem to be endless reasons for us to lose our tempers, everything from small annoyances (like the cell phone battery dying in the middle of a good chat) to the really big stuff (like job loss).

But wait, don't flame out! There are simple magical rituals and solutions to help you avoid getting mad or, if you are already mad, to keep you from staying mad.

3 Magic Rituals to Keep You from Flaming Out!

There are actually many magic rituals that help deal with the "fire energy" of anger, and here are three of my favorites: the ground out, the Apache tear, and the big burn. Fun stuff ... and useful, too!

#1: Ground Out Your Anger Magically
This magical ritual involves large appliances, like your refrigerator or your stove. Whenever you are angry, run over to your refrigerator, smack both palms on it, and just flow that "mad energy" right into the fridge. It will chill you out, quickly.

Now why does this work? This magic ritual works because anger, volatile as it is, is nothing more than one of the four elemental energies of the Universe: fire energy. The Universe is comprised of air, fire, water, and earth energies. Anger is just fire energy. The reason anger doesn't feel good is because when we are angry we have an excess of fire energy. It literally blows our circuits, which doesn't feel so great.

So when you flow all of that energy into a large appliance, like your fridge, you are magically dumping that excess fire energy into a safe, grounded source that can handle fire energy. Once the excess fire energy has left your body, you feel more balanced, and you will no longer feel angry. This also works with other grounded electrical sources such as light switches and electrical outlets, but don't try this on sensitive electronics like computers or radios. You will fry them in an instant! This is a fun magic ritual so give it a try the next time you are flaming mad!

#2: Send Your Anger to the Half Worlds with the Apache Tear

The Apache Tear, also called Grandmother's Tear, is the black obsidian stone, also called volcanic glass. Magically, the Apache Tear is known as a doorway to the half-worlds, a place from which you can move anywhere in time and space. While you can't get into the half-worlds with the Apache Tear (you need a black mirror for that), you can send any unwanted energies, like anger, into the half-world through this stone.

All you have to do is hold the stone in your dominant hand (the hand with which you point) and flow all of your anger into the stone. With this magic ritual, the stone will send the fire energy of your energy into the half-worlds, where it will be recycled again. Remember, anger energy isn't a bad thing, it is just an excess of fire energy. Fire energy can and is easily re-used in the half-worlds.

The beauty of the Apache Tear is that it is a doorway, not a storage receptacle. That means you can flow energy into this stone over and over without being afraid that it will store up your anger and, at some point, overflow. Pretty nifty, right? With other stones used in magical rituals, like hematite or quartz crystals, energy gets stored in the stone, and the stone has the be magically cleansed periodically. You don't have that kind of problem with the Apache Tear.

#3: The Big Burn Magic Ritual
I love this one because it matches the energy of anger so well: it burns! Plus, it's really simple to do, not to mention highly satisfying. All you need for this magic ritual is a pen, some paper, some matches, and a safe place to burn stuff (sometimes a giant metal cauldron works great!).

When you are mad, sit down and write everything that is making you mad. Pour it all out on paper, as fast and furious as you can. Write as many pages as necessary, and feel free to repeat yourself as many times as you want. There's no limit. Write until you literally run out of steam.

Now for the good part of this magic ritual--the big burn! Grab your papers and matches and move to the spot where you can (safely) burn the papers. Before you light up, take a moment to do whatever you need to move the anger out of you. Ask for help from angels, ask for guidance, or just have a moment of silence. And then, light up the papers and watch your anger go up in smoke. You can light each sheet individually (that's what I like best), or wad up the whole mess of papers and light the entire thing.

Whatever you do with this magic ritual, enjoy the heck out of it. Be safe about your burning, and then enjoy, enjoy, enjoy! It's not often that we have permission to do somewhat destructive acts like this, so go ahead and milk it for all it's worth!

Does Law of Attraction Really Work? An Experiment for You

They say the Universe is infinitely fair and always delivers, and that we are the ones who get in the way of manifesting everything we want.

Here's a question for you:

How's that working out for you?

Some people will say, "Great!" These people are born manifesters and seem to be able to conjure up manifestations on command. They've got the Midas touch, so to speak. Then there are others who struggle with the Law of Attraction but never seem to manifest quite what they want.

These are the people who write with questions like this: "I know I'm getting in my own way when it comes to manifesting what I want, but I don't know how to get out of my own way. Help!"

So what can you do if you keep getting in your own way when it comes to manifesting what you want in your life? You can try this magical experiment.

A Magical Way to Get Out of Your Own Way
So how do we get in our own way when it comes to creating what we want with Law of Attraction? Usually by being too active and "busy." Law of Attraction says that to manifest, we simply put our attention on what we want and feel good about it. As long as we keep feeling good about what we want, the Universe inevitably delivers.

That's all good and well, but most of us get pretty impatient when it comes to what we want. So instead of waiting for the Universe to deliver the manifestation, we start taking action on our own, hoping to "make it happen." That's when we get in our own way and prevent Law of Attraction from really working.

So here's a magical experiment for you to try if you are one of these people who gets in their own way:

Choose a single area of your life where you want to manifest something and commit to physically changing nothing for six months to a year.

The goal of this experiment is to take no action steps with regard to what you want to manifest. Literally sit on your hands if you have to. Magically, this gives the Universe some room to work, so that it can deliver that which you want. It's the magical equivalent of "hands off!"

A Magical Example
One woman, Anne, wanted to attract her soul mate. She had tried online dating sites, speed dating, blind dates, and even singles events. Nada. She had made a list of qualities that her perfect mate would have, and she had tried every action step imaginable to bring him into her life. No results.

Finally, tired of struggling, she agreed to try this experiment. She committed to taking no physical action steps to bring her dream partner into her life. Instead, she decided she would focus her attention elsewhere in her life. She signed up for a membership at her local recreation center and started taking a Tae Kwan Do class. She also put more of her focus on her career and her art work, which she had abandoned a while ago.

Not three months later, Anne crunched her bumper in a mild fender-bender. Did she crunch bumpers with her dream mate? Nope. But she did meet her soul mate because of the car accident. He turned out to be the insurance adjuster who came out to inspect her car for damage. She never expected him to show up as an insurance adjuster, but then again she had stopped expecting anything.

By putting her attention elsewhere and not "pushing the issue" Anne literally bumped into her soul mate. She gave the Universe room to work the Law of Attraction, and was pleasantly surprised when it happened halfway through her period of committed inaction.

So, what do you think? If you are feeling frustrated that something isn't manifesting in your life would you be willing to try this exercise for three, six, or even nine months? Think it might save some wear and tear on your soul?

Make A Magic Ritual Part of Your Morning

Magic is part of life, not something you do separate from your everyday life. If you want to have magic in your life, you have to practice magic all the time. Doing a magic ritual first thing in the morning can get your day off to a good start and become part of your morning routine. I know you are probably busy in the morning and think you don't have time, but even the busiest of people can work in the 3 magic rituals listed here.

My Three Magic Rituals Before Breakfast
I do at least three separate magic rituals every single day before breakfast, and it's no sweat, really. Want to know what they are? Simple.

Magic Ritual 1: Sit
Sitting, or meditating, is one of the best ways to invite magic into your life. I sit every single morning and surround myself with quiet. Burning a sun yellow candle in my sitting area helps clear out junky energies and make it a more peaceful space. I tend to sit in lotus position, because it's a stable position and I like it, but you don't have to. Just sit (or lie down if sitting is too uncomfortable). It doesn't matter whether you sit for 5 minutes for 50 ... just as long as you are quiet for long enough that the magic can slip into your life, between your thoughts as it were. The magic happens in the space between thoughts.

Magic Ritual 2:. Greet the Day
I go out and greet the day using the Navajo Beauty Way Day Greetings every single morning before breakfast. It's my way of making contact with powers and beings, acknowledging their presence, making any special requests for help, and generally getting in touch with my magical allies.

Magic Ritual 3:. Do a Reading
I'm usually reading some esoteric text or other, and I'll spend a few minutes in the morning immersing myself in some good spiritual material. I like readings from Gurdjieff, Abraham-Hicks, Carlos Castaneda, Edgar Cayce, and some more esoteric authors as well. A lot of people like to pull a card from the Medicine Cards or Sacred Path Cards, or flip open an angel book to get an "angel thought" for the day. Whatever floats your boat, pull some spiritual material from somewhere to get your day started on a magical footing.

All three of these little rituals take about 30 minutes total. That's not a whole lot of time to dedicate to living a truly magical life, and that's about all the Universe requires to bring the magic into your life. Pretty simple, huh?

A Simple Magic Ritual to Help a Suffering Friend

This is one of the great magical rituals we cover in our Everyday Magic Email Course. It is a good magic ritual for when you need to help a friend with magical means. Most of us have experienced times when we see a family member or friend engaging in some type of behavior that is damaging to themselves or others. Talking, begging, persuading, threatening or other similar types of intervention can't deter them from their course and we often find that the more we do to try and steer them from this path the less effective we are. Those of us on a magical path at that point usually look through our magic bag of "tricks" to see if there is something we can do magically to help a friend.

We often encounter the problem in doing this of going against the Rules of the Road (magical rules that govern magical practice). These rules say that unless the person is doing harm to us, we are not allowed to do most kinds of magic on them. We must have their permission to intervene and in most cases such as this we are not going to get that permission. So how do we magically help a friend in a case like this?

These are instances where we can use the Law of Resonance. Here's a simple magic ritual you can do using this Universal Law that will allow you to help a friend and not go against the Rules of the Road.

1. Think about the person, their circumstances and what they are doing that is harmful.
2. Look back through your memory and find a similar action or experience that you have experienced.
3. Hold the memory in present time for a few moments.
4. Let the memory go.

This simple magic ritual allows for a doorway to open that the other person can use to step through the experience without doing additional harm to themselves or others. The memory that you come up with doesn't have to be exactly the same; it just needs to have the same overall effect. For example, let's say your friend is overreacting to being chewed out by his or her boss and has decided to quit his or her job. You've tried reasoning with him or her and are just not getting through. Use your memory to find a time that you overreacted to a situation. Remember the way you felt, the angry words you expressed and how others tried to reason with or talk you out of the action you wanted to take. As you hold the memory in present time for a few moments and then let it go, by the Law of Resonance, your friend will benefit from your experience and may not have to suffer all the damage associated with it.

The next time you want to help a friend in trouble, try this magic ritual and see for yourself if your friend can hear you through Spirit when they can't hear you with their ears.

Do Desperate Times Call for Big Whopping Magic Spells?

Sometimes, but not always. Without a doubt these are desperate times for a lot of people, whether financially, emotionally, physically, or mentally. But casting big magic spells in times of desperations isn't always the best solution. In fact, it's usually not the best solution.

The Big Whopping Magic Spell: Why Not Use It?
The answer to this one's simple. Just ask yourself this question: "How clearly do you think and plan when you feel desperate?" If you're honest with yourself, then you probably have to acknowledge that you are not at your best when you feel tired, worn-out, desperate, or hopeless. And guess what? For big fat whopping magic spells to work, you've got to have all your wits about you.

Life-changing magic spells, or even world-changing magic spells, take a lot of planning and thought. You have to do divinations to figure out what needs to be changed, and then plan the best way to achieve that change. And no, writing and casting a spell to win the lottery ain't gonna do the trick because there are way too many people doing that already. The magical side-bands associated with winning the lottery are huge. Not going to happen.

What Magic Rituals Should You Do in Desperate Times?
If life sucks right now, don't pull out the big magical guns. Instead, go for the 10% solution. Go for the simple magical fix, the simple magical ritual that is easy to do. Instead of casting one giant magic spell, choose one way to change your life magically ... and then do it for 30 days. Any simple magical ritual that will make you feel just marginally better every day is worth its weight in gold. And keep it simple, otherwise you won't do it. Think about it: if you already wake up tired, depressed or desperate, will you feel like doing some complicated magic ritual? Probably not.

So stick with simple magic rituals and spells that you'll look forward to doing. Here's a short list to get you started:

- Light and Charge a Sun Candle
- Do the Navajo Beauty Way
- Throw away your troubles everyday with voodoo magic
- Make a gratitude list of 10 things you appreciate about your life
- Cross crawl (move your body to move your mind)
- Hire an angel every single day
- Do the Consistency Exercise

And that's just a short list. There are literally hundreds and thousands of magic rituals that you can use every day to help you move, inch by inch, from a place of desperation to a place of excellent karma. Really. If you want to know more, check out the free resources on our website or our ebooks, which offer detailed instructions on many simple magic rituals.

Magical Practice: It Really is the Effort That Counts

Sometimes I get hate mail from people who use the magic rituals and exercises I propose. Here is what happens: they do the exercise, don't get the immediate result, and I get hate mail.

It's OK. I can live with it.

What people don't seem to get is that a magical practice is just that: a practice.

A practice means repetition, sweat, effort, and more repetition. All of that, which is by definition practice, comes before perfection.

Here's What You Don't Know About a Magical Practice
In a society based on instant gratification, discussions centered around words like "practice" and "repetition" tend to make people's eyes glaze over, especially the people who want to use magic to win the lottery, like yesterday.

But here's what you might not know about a magical practice: even when you get it "wrong" in your magical practice, you gain magical and spiritual force. In other words, just by doing a magic ritual, even if the ritual doesn't produce the intended result, you get something. A little bit of credit is added to your magical bank account, so that the next time you do a ritual, you have a better chance of producing the result you want.

The Consistency Exercise as a Magic Ritual
No magical practice demonstrates this better than the simple consistency exercise. In this exercise, you choose a simple act to do at the same time every day for 40 days. Any act will do. Suppose you choose to touch the tip of your nose with your right index finger at 1 PM every day. If you miss a day or your appointed time on any day, you start again at day 1.

For instance, let's say you do the exercise correctly, meaning you touch the tip of your nose with your right index finger at 1 PM every day for 8 days. On the 9th day, you get distracted and don't remember your exercise until 2 PM. No dice. You have to start the exercise over again at day 1.

This little magic ritual drives people absolutely nuts, especially if they never make it to day 40. It has taken some people up to a year to achieve their chosen act 40 days in a row. But the people who manage to stick with the exercise for a significant amount of time (even if they never make 40 days) notice something. They begin to notice that they have more magical force. Life flows a little better. Acts of power take a little less effort. Law of Attraction seems to happen more often.

In short, the practice of magic, even in the face of consistent failure, makes magic work a little smoother. In the practice of magic, it IS the effort that counts ... really. If you don't believe me, try the consistency exercise.

After all, how hard can it be to touch the tip of your nose every day for 40 days? Up for the challenge? It's kind of like "wax on, wax off" in the Karate Kid, don't you think?

What to Do If You Need Magic and You Need It Now

With current life conditions, people are desperately looking for magical solutions to immediate life problems. In the words of one person, "I need magic, and I need it now! My life is falling apart by the day. What do I do? Just tell me."

No bird. That's word for word a quote from an email I recently received from a buddy of mine who knew I practiced magic. He knew he needed some supernatural help so he contacted me. A lot of people need magical help right now, which is great because it increases the amount of magic being practiced in the world.

So how does someone like my buddy, who knows very little about magic, get the magical help he needs ... right now?

The Magic Ritual of Getting Grounded
Recently I've been ranting about how doing very simple daily magic rituals is one of the keys to weathering the ups-and-downs of the current world change. You could almost just pick a magic ritual, any ritual, and as long as you did it consistently and faithfully, you'd get results. That's because there is a lot of magical energy up for grabs right now (there always is during a world change) so almost any magical ritual produces results.

But the more I think about it, the more I believe that grounding rituals are going to be very effective during this time. Any magic ritual that grounds you, and connects you with the element Earth, will help you weather the storm.

Now why is this? Because there's already a lot of Air, Fire, and Water energies zinging around, and these combined energies can often lead to fear, reactivity, negativity, and other junky emotions. Magically, these three elements represent the following:

Air = thinking, planning, communication. In a highly-charged situation, this could lead to arguments, negative thoughts, or plans for revenge.

Fire = movement, action, desire, will. If you are stressed, increasing your Fire energy by doing a Fire-based magic ritual could lead to road rage, frenetic but useless action, or a fist-fight.

Water = emotions, feelings. If you already feel down about your situation, doing a magic ritual that is too watery can make you feel even bluer, and trigger negative emotions.

The Importance of Earth-based Magic Rituals
That's why using magic rituals that connect you with the Earth element, which is grounding and stabilizing, is so important during these times. Earth reminds us that we are human "beings" and not human "doings" since one of the characteristics of the Earth element is "serenity of beingness."

So if you need some magic, right now, to start stabilizing your life, try this grounding magic ritual, called Rooting. With it, you can literally dump all your negative emotions and thoughts, as well as stabilize your sense of self. As a bonus, this ritual can be done just about anytime, anywhere, as long as you are still. It's not an obvious ritual, so you can do it at your desk, during a board meeting, or sitting on your couch. It's simple, it works, and it's convenient. How much better could you get when it comes to a good magic ritual?

How to Ground Yourself Magically with Rooting
Rooting is great technique for flowing earth energies deep into the ground, releasing excess energies of any kind, pulling earth energies into the body and mineralizing the body.
  • Place your palms or heels on the ground. These are the parts of your body from which you will extend "roots."
  • Extend your roots out of your body, through the carpet or tile, into the sub floor and down into the earth. Just imagine or "see" roots growing from your palms or heels and reaching into the earth. If you are in a multi-level building, you will need to go through each level until you reach the earth. If you are wearing shoes with thick soles, you may have to extend the roots out the sides of your shoes to avoid the soles.
  • Once your roots reach the earth, keep extending them down through the topsoil and deeper layers until you reach bedrock. You will feel the bedrock as a more solid sensation than burrowing through the soil.
  • When you reach bedrock, dig your roots in and lock them in.
  • With each exhalation, push excess tension, anger, frustration, sadness, distraction, or other unwanted energies through your roots into the bedrock. The Earth will easily accept these energies.
  • With every inhale, pull up minerals and energies from the earth for stability and balance.
  • Once you feel relaxed and nourished, pull your roots back up into your body. Just see the roots retracting and going back into your body. If you stand up without pulling in your roots, you'll feel a slight "popping" sensation and your body might be sore for a few days.
  • This is a very simple but highly useful magic ritual during times like these. I suggest doing this ritual at least once per day to relieve daily tension and negativity.

Magic Rituals and Acts of Power

Feeling helpless in the face of external events happening outside our control is a common feeling these days, and people are turning to magic for solutions.

The email correspondence we get reflects that general feeling of helplessness, and the events that are happening all over the globe. One man writes about losing his job. A woman emails about a sudden divorce. Another questions the meaning of her daughter's sudden health issues. They all want to know one thing:

Can magic rituals restore control to their lives?

Magic and the Issue of Control
The short answer to the question: yes. Magic can restore control to people's lives, especially for people who feel that their lives are spinning out of control. Magic restores control because it helps people become more anchored, stable, and secure in their lives, and people who are anchored are less likely to encounter "accidents" or events outside their control.

One specific magical principle talks about this. To paraphrase, it says:

"When two objects are attracted, the least-anchored object comes undone first."

If you think about yourself as one of the objects in the equation above, and a life event as another object, then according to the equation, if you are anchored in your life you will not "come undone" first. That means the life events will "come undone" first and be pulled into your life orbit, rather than you being sucked helplessly into the orbit of a life event.

Why is this important? Because when you attract life events to you, you have greater control over the situation. When life events pull you into their "accidental" orbits, you have almost no control over what happens, or how it happens.

The Magic of Anchoring: An Example
Here's an example that might help explain this magical principle in a practical way. Suppose you are having a bad day, but you are still grounding yourself throughout the day with the use of magic rituals. So your energy is little off kilter but you are fairly grounded.

Now suppose you attract a fender-bender into your life because your energy is a little off-center. The fender-bender could happen in one of two ways, depending on the grounding effect of the magic rituals.

If you are less anchored than the fender-bender, then the event will happen "accidentally," and you will have very little control. The accident may cause you money problems, health issues, or simply be an emotional drain. This is because you are the "less anchored" object in this equation.

If, on the other hand, the magic ritual is powerful enough that you are quite well anchored, the car accident may still occur, but the consequences will be quite different. Being the more anchored object, you have greater control over the situation. For instance, even though you are still involved in a car accident, the person your crunched bumpers with may end up being the answer to your prayers. He may be well-insured so that the accident costs you nothing but a small amount of annoyance. He may be the business partner you are seeking. He may be the man of your dreams. Now the annoying accident becomes a "fortuitous accident." It still occurs, but now the results line up with your desires.

Magic Rituals That Create Stability: Acts of Power
Now the question becomes how to use magic rituals in a way that create stability in your life, so that you are always the most-anchored object in any life encounter. There are many magic rituals that can create stability, and one of my favorites is do to an act of power.

Any intentional act is a magical act as well as an act of power. Any act of power restores personal power, which in turn grounds you in your life. To do an act of power is a simple three-step process.

1. Choose a simple act and decide when you will do this act.
For instance, you might choose to take a walk around the block at noon today. Notice that the act is simple and the time is very specific. Both of these are necessary to an act of power because a complicated act could be interrupted and a non-specific time nullifies the act of power.

2. When the chosen time comes to do your act of power, do it.
Do not let anything interrupt you! An act of power chosen but not completed will decrease your stability, allowing more "accidental events" to occur in your life.

3. When your act of power is complete, take a moment to review the act and the fact that you have completed the act.
This moment of "appreciation" will help you gain all the power you can from your magic ritual.

You can choose to do an act of power many times of day to increase the anchoring in your life. Although your act of power may seem very ordinary, remember that any act of power is a magical act, a magic ritual. It restores control to your life and makes you less vulnerable to external events that "just happen."

One Step Over the Line Sweet Jesus or Universe or ...

"One step over the line sweet Jesus."

This line from the song has always fascinated me because it speaks so eloquently of how little it takes to go from living a crappy mundane life to a magical miraculous life.

The difference is just one step. One itty-bitty step.

It doesn't matter whether you say Jesus or Universe or Great Spirit ... you fill in the blank. The key is that the line between the mundane and the magical is a fine one. It takes just one step to cross that line.

Crossing the Line from the Mundane to the Magical
So how do you step over the line from the everyday ordinary world into the magical world? How do you cross that line? How do you take a magical step?

There are so many possible magical solutions that there is no way to cover them all in one article. The point is this: do magic.

Any sort of magic will help you step over into the magical world. Now here's the really good part:

Any intentional act is a magical act.

Stop and savor the power of that for a moment. ANY intentional act is a magical act. That means that anything you do with intention (or attention) is a magical act. That means that anyone can do magic. There are no muggles. Everyone can do magic.

A magic ritual done with intention is a magical act. A power walk around the neighborhood driven by intention is a magical act. Taking a deep breath on purpose is a magical act. Are you starting to see how easy this can be?

What is an Intentional Act and How is that Magical?
So let's clarify. An intentional act is any act you do on purpose. A very simple act can be an intentional, and hence magical, act. Here's an example of an intentional act.
  1. You look at a pen on your desk.
  2. You decide to pick up the pen right now.
  3. You pick up the pen immediately after you make the decision.
There, you have just done a magical act ... and crossed the line from the ordinary world to the magical world. It's simple.

Of course, the scale of the intentional act dictates the level of its effect. A small intentional act will give you a little magical power boost ... help you step over the line, so to speak. A stronger magical ritual will help you stay over the line. Even more powerful, magic rituals done on a daily basis as part of magical practice will help you live a magical life, even as you move through your ordinary daily activities.

For instance, if you call upon the Spirit of Owl each morning to help you plan your day, you start your day by stepping over the line. Intentionally following the guidance from Owl will help you stay on your magical path all day.

Magic Rituals: Easy Freebies to Help You Get Your Feet Wet

One of the most common questions we get about magic rituals is, "Where do I start?"

A lot of people go into information overload when they start delving into a magical practice, and have no idea where to start. They wonder which magic ritual they should they first? And should they read and study first, then do the ritual? It's enough to make anyone's head spin.

Well, if your head is spinning, here's how to make it stop.

Magic Rituals in Three Easy (Freebie) Steps
Magic rituals don't have to be overly complicated or filled with smoke and mirrors. In fact, a lot of truly effective and fun rituals are very simple. So here's how you get your feet wet with a magical practice in three easy steps.

1. Pick a Ritual
First, you have to find a magic ritual that really calls to you. You also need to find one that is safe and not going to wreak havoc with your karma or cause you any spiritual backlash. We've got a bunch of them in our online library of articles. Feel free to check 'em out.

2. Do the Magic Ritual, Right Now
You'd be amazed at how many people get hung up on this step. They read about a ritual and think to themselves, "Wow, this one looks great. I'll do that as soon as I have some time." Yeah, right. When do you think that's going to happen? Never. So when you find a ritual that really calls you to you, drop everything you are doing and do the ritual. If the ritual calls for some special tools or ingredients, go get them, right away. Then come right back and do the ritual. It's the only way to dive into your magical practice without letting doubt, schedules, or anything else interfere.

3. Reflect on the Effect
Once you have done the ritual, take a moment to reflect on what happened. You may want to jot down any immediately noticeable effects in a journal. Do the same reflection 12, 24, and 48 hours after you have done the ritual. Maybe check back in a week later as well. Be sure to look for good things that might have entered your life.

You may also want to check for negative things that have left your life. This is very important. Most of the time, when something negative leaves our lives, we don't notice it. We just move on with our lives.

For instance, when I counsel people about health care, I often ask them to tell me if anything has changed or improved with their health after we have completed a treatment regimen. Many times the person says, "No, nothing has changed." But when I ask them whether they still have headaches or back pain, they suddenly wake up to the fact that the pain is gone. We often fail to notice when pain leaves our lives. Pain, or negative events, are usually noticeable only when they are present. So be sure to check for anything negative that might have left your life.

See, that's pretty easy, right? Pick a ritual, do it, and reflect on it. How much simpler can it get? Don't over-think this. Do as Nike suggests:

Just do it!

Magic Rituals: The Art of Calling in the Muses

Uninspired action really sucks, and I mean really, really sucks.

Not just because doing something you're not thrilled about is a total bore, but also because it's a useless waste of effort. I'm sure you know what I'm talking about ... that useless head-banging that doesn't net you anything but a headache?

Yeah, that would be because you are working without the magical benefit of muses, our sources of inspiration. Without that kind of inspiration, action is fairly useless. I believe that the metaphysical teaches Abraham said it best:

"Take time to line up the Energy first, and action becomes inconsequential ...if you don't find the feeling place of what you're looking for, not enough action in the world will make any difference."

That's pretty clear, huh? So if you are feeling dull, lackluster, and totally not into what you're doing, just stop. Do a magic ritual to call in the Muses. When they appear, then it's time to spring into action.

A Magic Ritual to Call in the Muses
Muses do exist in the world, and as magical creatures they bring us inspiration. People call them by all kinds of other names--angels, spirit guides, helpers, totems--you name it. But it's not all that important what you call them, just that you allow them into your life to amplify your heart's desire and call your forth in happy and inspired action.

So how do you call forth a muse? There are several magic rituals that you could use to do this, and my favorite is the simplest one of all:

Just sit there and call for a Muse.

Yup, just sit on your fanny and call for a Muse. You can do it out loud or just ask silently. Use whatever words come naturally to you. Your own Muse is always hovering nearby, just waiting to hear your call, so the words really don't matter. I often just think the word, "Muse."

Then I wait. This is the part of the magic ritual that is the most difficult for most people. If you can master the art of sitting and waiting, then you have mastered the art of control, at least in one area of your life ... and control of your attention and intention is crucial to a successful magical practice.

Why Sitting and Waiting is So Difficult

Did you know that you expend more energy just sitting in a chair doing nothing than you do digging a ditch for a couple of hours? You do. Why is this? Because movement is life, a natural part of life, so it's much easier for our bodies (not to mention our minds) to be in movement than to be still.

When we hold ourselves still, we actually have to exert tension over our bodies to do so. This tension expends a lot of energy, far more than movement, which is why we have such a hard time sitting still. It takes a lot of work to sit still.

But if you can manage to hold yourself still, both in body and mind, while you wait for your Muse, you'll find that you don't have to stay still for long. Muses can only speak to us when we are quiet, both inside and out, so the sooner you can be still the sooner your Muse will deliver the inspiration you have asked for.

Sometimes it helps to stare at a candle flame or listen to the gurgling sound of a fountain as you do the magic ritual. This keeps your mind occupied, which means your body will naturally be still.

For instance, the other day I was having difficult with this ritual. I needed to write the notes for a magic class I was teaching, but could not concentrate. I had asked for a Muse but felt so jumpy that I couldn't hear anything from my Muse. So I plunked myself down in front of the woodstove and simply watched the flames as I waited for my Muse. My mind and body calmed immediately, since flames are notoriously hypnotic. About 15 minutes later, I sprang into inspired action (after, of course, thanking my Muse).

Doing the magic ritual this way works particularly well, especially if you are feeling the pressure of a tight deadline, are experiencing an adrenaline rush, or are downright frustrated with your lack of progress. Just watch of listen to something distracting, call your Muse, and practice the art of waiting.

Patience, my friend, is a virtue ... and luckily one that yields many magical rewards

How to Live a Magical Life: Stop Being a Control Freak

I bet you are a control freak, at least in some areas of your life, even if you don't admit it to yourself. That's all right. I think we're all control freaks.

My wife calls me a "just so guy," because there are certain areas of my life (like my cigars) where things have to be "just so" or I pout.

So we are all control freaks in some way or other, and that's fine because it helps us feel in control of something, especially when other factors in our lives (like the economy) seem to be spinning out of control.

Too Much Control Leads to Too Little Magic
But, being too much of a control freak can really get in the way of living a magical life. Trying to control events all the time keeps the magic from happening because magic mostly happens when you're not looking.

Personally, I feel that phrases like "a watched pot never boils" were created to help us control freaks who so badly want to live magical lives, but just can't seem to get there. That's 'cause we are trying to control the process.

So how do you live a magical life if you are a control freak? Give it up already!

Three Magical Rituals to Help Control Freaks Let Go
Control freaks have such a hard time letting go of stuff that they literally leave claw marks all over their lives. I ask you, how can magic operate in a space filled with claw marks? It can't. So ... to help control freaks unclench a bit, here are some great magic rituals that will help anyone let go so the magic can happen.

Magic Ritual #1: The Coin Toss
People have been flipping coins since the dawn of, well, coins to determine the outcome of certain events. For control freaks, using a coin toss to make a decision is like walking out in front of a beer truck--a guaranteed disaster. Only the coin toss isn't a disaster, it's a great way to let go of control and let magic take you for a little ride.

The next time you have a big decision come up, instead of weighing all the pros and cons and trying to make the decision based on logic or control or whatever other mental stuff is running around your brain, whip out a coin and make the decision based on the coin toss. Decide ahead of time the meaning of both "heads" and "tails." Then flip it!

Whatever the coin tells you, follow that decision ... immediately. Do not pause for consideration, do not pass "Go," and do not collect $200. Just do it.

It may sound crazy, but the universe will reward you with some pretty big magic if you can manage to follow through on this. Why? Because by letting go you allow the Universe to do for you what you cannot do for yourself. You open up space for the magic to appear. You are allowing the magic to lead you where you have always wanted to go ... only you couldn't figure out how to get there. It's one darn simple magical ritual that will help you lead a magical life and teach you to let go.

Magic Ritual #2: The Three Day Test
This ritual is another oldie-but-goodie. Actually, most of these rituals are quite old and date back to tribal times. In any case, this one's simple, too. When faced with a decision that you can't make, use the three day test.

To start the ritual, ask the question aloud to the Universe. Then, for the next three days, don't even think about the question. Don't let your mind touch the topic. Don't talk about the question to a single person. Leave it alone. This is the hardest part of the ritual.

At the end of the third day, ask your question aloud to the Universe again. Then, wait for the answer. Go with the first answer that comes to you. As with the coin toss, do not stop to think it over, ponder it, or otherwise mess with the process. Follow the guidance from the Universe and see what magic unfolds for you. Beyond that, actively look for signs of magic. They will be there ... you just have to be on the lookout for them. They will amaze you.

Magic Ritual #3: Decide That All Decisions are Right
This magic ritual is more of a meditation. It can be done as a silent sitting meditation, or as a more active writing meditation. It is very simple. Before you make a final decision about something, stop and do this meditation. Use this mantra:

"All decisions are right. All decisions will lead me to where I want to be. There are no wrong decisions."

You can either repeat this manta silently during a quiet sitting meditation, or write it forty times in a row during a more active meditation. I personally find that the act of writing does something magic to me. It shifts my place of being from mundane to magical, so I often tend to write mantras rather than repeating them silently to myself.

Once you have completed the meditation, go ahead and make your decision ... and then run with it. You can use either of the two magic rituals above if you have difficulty making your decision. If you encounter doubt after you have made your decision, or at any point along the journey, then repeat the meditation.

Magic Rituals Are Simple
See how simple all of these rituals are? I like simple magic because it's fast, immediate, and is an act of power. Any act of power restores personal power. When you are operating from a space of personal power, you can't make a wrong decision. You really can't. Plus, you will feel so positive that any decision is bound to be successful.

For more simple magic rituals, check out our magic rituals ebooks.

Now it's up to you. Try these magic rituals and let the magic guide you. Trust the process. Trust the magic.

A Quickie Magic Ritual for When You Feel Like a Nut

If you are person who does not like to be told what to do by other people, then this magic ritual is custom-made for you.

With this ritual, you tell yourself what to do ...

It's pretty hard to ignore advice from yourself, right?

Feeling Nuts? One Magic Principle You Must Know
When you feel like you are going crazy, and a lot of people feel crazy these days, here's a magical principle that you have to understand:

Any form of craziness exists in the past or the future.

Think about it. When you feel nuts, what is really happening? You are doing one of two things. You are:

1. Reliving past negative events that have already happened
2. Projecting about future negative events you fear may occur

If you don't believe me, just think back to the last argument you had with someone. What was the REAL content of the argument about? While there may have been a present-time event that triggered the argument, the stuff that gets brought up is usually a rehash of old history, right?

Do lines like, "You always do that!" or "Oh, I can see this is going to turn out just like xxx did back in 1999!" sound familiar? Present time events pull in memories of past events, and that is what the argument is really about.

Conversely, the argument can be about future events. For instance, let's say you get an unexpected bill in the mail. All of sudden you start projecting out into the future about fearful events, like not being able to pay the bill. An argument begins. While the bill exists in present time, the argument is about a projected future.

Thus, it's common sense, not to mention a magical principle that all negativity exists in the past or future, not in the present.

A Magic Ritual to Bring You Back to Present Time
Once you have this knowledge under your belt, you can use a simple magic ritual every time you start feeling a little nuts. It is really easy:

Just look at yourself in the mirror and say to yourself in a voice of command, "Come to present time!"

You may have to say it to yourself several times, but this command actually speaks to your Spirit and your mind. Your body always exists in present time, but the command in this magic ritual tells your Spirit and mind to come back to present time as well. Once you are in present time, you can't be nuts. It's a magical principle. It's a fact.

Try it. How does it work for you?

Got Negative Karma? 3 Magic Rituals to Fix Your Karma Fast

The Beatle's weren't wrong about instant karma.

We live in a pay as you go Universe, which means that our karma is fairly instantaneous. The effects of our karma can happen in a week, a day, or a minute. Instant karma is becoming more and more of a reality as we move further into the Aquarian Age.

This is good news. It means that if you have been experiencing some negative karma in your life, you can change it, fairly quickly. You just have to exercise your karma a bit to shift yourself from negative karma to positive.

How to Exercise and Fix Your Karma
Reversing your negative karma by exercising your karma is actually a lot simpler than it might seem. It's certainly a lot easier than running on a treadmill or climbing a stair-climber ... there's a lot less sweat involved. Exercising your karma, from a magical point of view, is basically about emphasizing the positive and releasing the negative. It's simple. Ready? Here goes.

Magical Ritual #1 to Reverse Negative Karma
Magically, any intentional act is a magical act, so by doing an intentional act that exercises your karma, you are doing a magical act, or a magical ritual. Not all magical rituals involve incense, candles, wands, or herbs.

So here's an easy one: do an intentionally good act for someone and don't let ANYONE know about it. By not telling anyone about your act, you ensure the pure goodness of the act. Your silence means that you have not done the act for pride, praise, or vanity.

It also puts a big plus sign in the "good karma" column, which can cause a fundamental shift in your karma fairly quickly.

Magical Ritual #2 to Reverse Negative Karma
This magic ritual is the opposite of the first magical act, above. In this magical ritual, instead of doing something intentionally good for someone, you allow an insulting act from another person to go unpunished and unspoken.

As in the previous magic ritual, silence plays a big role in shifting your karma. When someone does something that you perceive as personally insulting, let it go. Remember the adage from "Course in Miracles" that "all correction belongs to Holy Spirit." This means that each person will suffer their own karma for any acts the do. If they do a harmful act, there's no need for you to correct them with words or actions. Leave that up to Holy Spirit (or any other higher being of your choice).

By not acting or speaking out against a "bad act," you also shift your karma. Another plus sign in the "good karma" column.

Magical Ritual #3 to Reverse Negative Karma
This magic ritual is so simple and so silly, but also very effective. It helps shift you from a negative state of being to a more positive and balanced state of being. And when you feel positive, you are more likely to have good karma. You are also more likely to be able to do the two magic rituals above without a lot of internal resistance.

It's simple. Get on the ground and crawl around. As you crawl around, be sure that your opposite hand and knee strike the ground at the same time, as in left hand and right knee or right hand and left knee. This exercise is called cross crawling and "resets" your brain as well as your emotional tone. People like John Paul Getty have used this exercise (can you imagine Getty crawling around his desk?) to get into a positive mood. It definitely works.

If you want to do the two magic rituals above but have difficulty because you are not in the right mood to do them, try cross crawling first, and then try the rituals again. You'll be pleasantly surprised.

Instant Karma, Negative Karma, and Magic Rituals
The more you do magic the more instant your karma becomes. Karma is speeding up for everyone on the planet, but the use of magic rituals will increase the speed of your karma. This is a double-edged sword. The good news is that you have the power to shift your karma very quickly when you focus your intention. The bad news is that when you are not paying attention, your karma can shift into a more negative state just as quickly.

Luckily, if you find yourself in a state of "negative karma," you can easily shift back again. That's the beauty of magic. Enjoy!

The Day You Stop Believing is the Day a Little More Magic Dies

It is not unusual for magical practitioners, especially beginners, to lose faith in magic.

Does that sound familiar?

Maybe you cast a magic spell and your life hasn't made the 180 degree turn you were hoping it would make.

Maybe you started practicing meditation but you haven't hit upon enlightenment yet.

Maybe you did practiced some magic rituals and you want life fixed now ... and it hasn't happened yet.

So maybe you start losing faith in magic, miracles, impossible dreams. Maybe you start thinking that ordinary life is all there is, the daily grind, day in and day out.

You know what I say to that?
It's a crying shame the day you lose faith in magic.

Why is Losing Faith a Crying Shame?
Why? Because every time someone (that's you) stops having faith in magic, stops doing daily magic rituals, a little more magic dies in the world. A little magical flame gets blown out. The critical mass of belief that allows magic to exist on this planet shrinks a little more. Magic becomes harder for the other beginners out there to practice.

You know what I say to that?
Don't give up five minutes before the miracle happens.

This happens over and over. Magic happens, always and without fail. But it usually happens when you least expect it. When you're not looking. When you're not waiting for that watched pot to start boiling. Magic lives in the "in betweens" of our lives. It slips in through the cracks. It often happens but goes unrecognized. So instead of giving up on magic and magic rituals, go with the Winston Churchill approach:

"Never give up. Never give up. Never, never, never!"

Want to know why you shouldn't give up on magic? Here's a short list of what magic has accomplished for people, including ourselves, in recent times:

- psychically removed a golf-ball sized tumor from under a horse's jaw
- restored a person's rightful ownership of a family farm
- helped another person receive the financing to buy their dream farm
- brought an unemployed person a new job right before bankruptcy
- healed a person's pimple in 1 hour (hey, little magic counts, too!)
- reunited a person with her long-lost brother (map divination)
- healed a wounded hawk
- doubled one business' cash flow
- helped one woman get pregnant and deliver a healthy baby
- supported a grieving man in finding peace despite apparent injustice

These things have all happened within the last few years ... mostly with the use of spells and magic rituals. You'll notice what is missing from the list. No one has won the lottery. No one has struck it rich overnight. But magic supported the endeavors of each of the people who believed in and used magic, and eventually brought them their heart's desire.

Magic isn't free. There is a price to be paid for everything, be it the effort in creating a magic spell or the perseverance to practice a magic ritual on a daily basis. But magic does work, always. Don't give up ... be one of the flames, the lights, of magic on this planet today.

Don't give up on magic and magic won't give up on you!

The Nighttime Blessing Magic Ritual

If you want to bring magic into your home and hearth, one of the best magic rituals for creating harmony within the family is the nighttime blessing ritual. This ritual is done at night, right before bed, with the whole family.

To do the nighttime blessing ritual you will need:

- a chalice (or goblet)
- sea salt

- spring water

How to do the Nighttime Blessing Magic Ritual
The ritual is simple to perform and can be done by any member of the family. Follow these simple steps.

1. Hold the chalice with both hands in front of you. Flow water blue energy from one hand to the other, through the chalice. Do this until the chalice becomes warm or tingly. The chalice is now "keyed" to the person holding it (using the "quick key" method).

2. Add the spring water and sea salt to the chalice, with the chalice half full. Swirl the mixture clockwise.

3. Blow water blue energy into the chalice while swirling the water/salt mixture clockwise. In between each breath, say one line of the verse below:

Water and earth where you are cast, Let no spell nor adverse purpose last. Bless these people and bless their space, Far from here send baneful trace.

Finish by blowing water blue energy into the chalice and swirling the water one last time. Now the chalice is "charged."

4. Hold the chalice in your left hand and face the first person you will be blessing. Dip the index finger of your right hand into the water and draw a vertical line down the center of the person's forehead. The line should be 1 to 1.5 inches long.

5. Dip your finger in the water again, and now draw a horizontal line of the same length from left to right through the center of the first line, forming a cross.

6. Finally, starting at the right end of the horizontal line, draw a clockwise circle, touching both ends of both lines. As you draw the circle, say to the person, "For the peace of your mind."

7. Repeat the same procedure on the person's chest over their heart. As you draw the circle, say, "For the joy of your heart."

8. Ask the person to take a sip of water from the Chalice. As they sip, say, "And for the health of your body."

9. If there are two people participating in the ritual, reverse roles and repeat the process. If there are many people, one person can bless everyone, and then one person in the group blesses the first person. You can also do this blessing magic ritual for yourself.

Enjoy this beautiful and peaceful magical ritual, and watch as it harmonizes the energy in your family!

If You Need a Quick Magic Ritual Hug a Tree

I always used to joke about tree huggers in my younger days. You know, those folks who also ate granola bars and wore Birkenstocks.

But after three decades of practicing magic. I have come to appreciate the value of hugging a tree.

And by hugging a tree I literally mean wrapping your arms around a big honking tree trunk.

I don't mean just loving nature. I mean a real hug.

Tree hugging, believe it or not, is a great magic ritual for people who need an instant magical "quick fix." Trees, being rooted in the ground, are deeply connected with the Earth. Most trees have as much root below the surface of the ground as they have trunk and foliage above ground. For that reason, trees are act as incredible sources of grounding energy.

For this Magic Ritual Pick the Biggest Tree You Can Find
Of course, if you are going to hug a tree, you want to pick as big a tree as you can find. The bigger the tree, the more energy it can absorb, and the more it can help you ground yourself. Plus, bigger trees can absorb and exchange a lot of energy without damaging their own health. Personally, I always find a tree with a trunk so wide that I can't wrap my arms all the way around it. That way, I know the tree is big enough that I won't cause it harm. This is important, because by Rules of the Road (the Universal laws that govern magical practice) "do no harm" is a big monster rule.

Once you have picked out your tree, wrap your arms around the tree and just flow any unwanted energies into the tree, through the bark. You can flow fear, anger, hopelessness, grief, frustration, or hate into the tree. The tree will take this energy and convert into energy that it can use for its own growth. Grief becomes water energy to keep the tree moist. Anger becomes fire energy that can be used in photosynthesis. Hopelessness is converted to earth energy which is simply dumped into the ground. Scatterbrained energy becomes Air energy, which the tree uses to breathe. See the beauty of this magic ritual?

Two Notes about the Magic of Hugging Trees
Sometimes, because of where you are and who you are with, you can't just go hug a tree. Maybe you are at work or maybe you are with people who don't believe in the use of magic rituals. No big deal. Instead of hugging the tree, just back up to the tree and lean against it. You can easily look casual while you do it. You can transmit energy through any part of your body that is touching the tree. In fact, the more contact you have with the tree, the faster the energy exchange will happen, and leaning up against a tree gives you a lot of contact. With this method you can easily use the tree-hugging magic ritual in public.

The second note is about bare feet. If you are alone and if the weather permits, take your shoes and socks off while you hug a tree. This gives you contact not only with the tree, but also with the Earth, which easily absorbs unwanted energy. This helps a lot so if you don't mind getting your feet a little dirty, you'll get a lot more out of this magic ritual by going barefoot.

Most of all ... enjoy! With this little magic ritual, you not only dump your own negative energies, but you also feed the tree and the Earth as well. Beings of nature, like trees, are able to easily convert complex human emotions and sensations into usable, practical energy for their own growth and enhancement.

Pretty cool, isn't it? That's why I love magic!

The Magic Ritual of the Coin Flip

When you have a really crucial decision to make, what do you do? I don't know about you, but I use a very deep and complex magic ritual:

I flip a coin!

Of course I'm being a little sarcastic here, but the truth of the matter is that I do resort to a coin flip as one of my magic rituals of choice when I have to make an important decision.

Why? Because I figure the Universe knows better than I which decision best fits my needs and desires, so I let the coin guide me to the "correct" decision.

Why Trust Important Decisions to This Silly Magic Ritual
This magic ritual definitely sounds a little trite for big decisions, I'll grant you, but you have to see the coin toss for what it really is:

A channel through which the Universe communicates with us.

It is a way for the Universe to offer very clear guidance. After all, the coin toss can only have two options, heads or tails.

The relatively silliness of the coin toss also works in its favor. It's silliness takes the pressure off the decision, so to speak. If you use a really complicated magic ritual that takes a lot of planning and a lot of effort to do, you may end us being too "invested" in the outcome. Plus, a ritual that takes a lot of planning gives you many opportunities to "skew" the results with your own energies of fear, worry, and anxiety.

Most importantly, the coin toss is a sign that you "trust the process," so to speak. By entrusting an important decision to an utterly simplistic magic ritual like the coin toss, you are announcing that you trust:
  1. the Universe to provide clear and correct guidance
  2. your own ability to follow that guidance
The Coin Toss Magic Ritual Builds Trust
The Universe unfailingly provides us with clear and correct guidance, but often the answer we get isn't the one we necessarily want to hear, at least in that moment. So we tend to second guess ourselves, perhaps by tossing the coin a second or third time, or resorting to a magic ritual which has results that are more open to subjective interpretation, such as meditating with the firebowl.

But if you really want to learn to trust the process, try the coin toss, at least once on a truly important life decision. If you manage to see the decision through, based on guidance from the coin toss ritual, you will be surprised at the twists and turns of your path, and no doubt pleased by the result.

Dare you risk it? I would hope so ... trust is what magic is all about!
