Elemental Magic as Protection Magic: The Use of Sonics
Sonics
The first thing to familiarize yourself with when beginning to use Sonics is the type of sounds associated with each of the 4 elements and the affect those sounds can have. The elemental magic sounds can then be paired with one of the 8 voices of command to produce varying effects. The sounds and effects associated with each of the four elements include:
Air
Air element sounds are very soft, light, breathy sounds. They are fairly high-pitched and do not carry well over distance. These sounds produce very little or no vibratory effects and require careful attention to be noticed. Air sounds can be used to space someone out or confuse them. An example of how to use Air sounds is to quiet a room of screaming children (Fire) with whispering. Air sounds affect the skin and ears first, then the mind and on a spiritual level affects the mind and its thought processes.
Fire
Fire element sounds are shrill, cutting or clear/bright sounds that are fairly high-pitched. They carry well over distance and cut through other sounds. Fire sounds affect the neural system and are attention grabbing. On a spiritual level, they affect will, power, life force and temper. This type of sound would be useful when facing an attacker.
Water
Water element sounds are soft, caressing, rolling, flowing or stroking sounds that are a mid-range pitch. They carry moderately well over distance and are easily heard. The caressing effect may cause them to go unnoticed. They do not generally stimulate the neural system and affect soft tissues such as entrails and glands with a vibratory effect that is noticeable. Spiritually Water sounds affect emotions and feelings. Water sounds could be used in a case such as wanting to communicate with an unreceptive person on an emotional level.
Earth
Earth element sounds are heavy drumming, thudding or vibrating sounds that are low-pitched. They often are too low to hear and do not carry well over distance. These type of sounds are hard to physically hear with the ears and difficult to find the direction or source. They affect the bones, skeletal structure and solid body parts through a noticeable vibration. Spiritually they affect one's sense of certainty, stability and certainty of beingness. Earth sounds would be a good choice to use with someone who is being dramatic or hyper by giving them some solidity or an anchor.
Sonics is a very useful study that requires no tools. You can start practicing elemental magic and protection magic and seeing what effect using the various elemental sounds produces. As with any magical technique, think it through and practice to get proficient at the skill so you'll be ready to employ it when you need it. Also remember to follow the Rules of the Road to stay on the right side of the Universe and have fun seeing all the magical things you can do with just your voice.

Relationship Issues? Could Elemental Differences Be Causing Problems?
Understanding the 4 Elements
The first lesson in understanding how the 4 elements might have a role in your relationship issues is to have a basic understanding of the characteristics of the 4 elements themselves. As you read through the following descriptions try to see which fits the type of personality traits you exhibit and other people that you know.
Air Element – corresponds to seeing, breathing, speaking, hearing, planning, thinking, believing, memorizing, communicating, learning, teaching, information, ideas, wisdom, understanding, worry, sensation, awareness, opinions, data, memory, mind.
Fire Element – corresponds to energy, power, will, desire, anger, pain, motivation, radiance, passion, initiative, aggression, limitation, endeavor, activity, creative, willingness, urge, inspired, excitable, courage, bravado, compulsion, fanaticism, frustration, resentment, rage, freedom.
Water Element - corresponds to emotions, feelings, intuition, compassion, empathy, sympathy, knowing, devotion, quest, aspiration, intention, appreciation, integrity, harmony, beauty, balance, serenity, fluidity, grief, apathy, joy, love.
Earth Element – corresponds to strength, money, foundation, endurance, structure, mundane world, serenity of beingness, solidity, boundaries, permanence, land, commerce, products, confidence, loyalty, persistence, stubbornness, fortress, security, anchor, barter, substance, body, base, possessions.
How the 4 Elements Relate to Relationship Issues
Now think about how each of these elements react to each other. For example, you know that you can blow out a candle so too much Air can smother Fire. Let's say you as a predominantly Fire Element person are in a relationship with a predominantly Air Element person. You can see how applying the 4 element characteristics can predict that relationship issues are bound to occur. Another example of a pairing that could be difficult would be in the case of a predominantly Water element personality matched with a predominantly Air Element person or predominantly Fire Element person. Water cannot accept air alone or fire alone easily. Water accepts air that is carrying fire. This case demonstrates how a Water Element person would probably have less relationship issues with a person who is an Air/Fire mix rather than predominantly Air or Fire.
How to Determine Your Elemental Make-up
The elements that dominate your personality play a key role in determining how you deal with life issues. That includes how you deal with relationship issues. Knowing your elemental make-up can help you determine the type of people you want to establish relationships with and help you know when to take on more of or dump excess types of elemental energy when you have to deal with someone who is not a good elemental match for you.
So how do you know what your elemental make-up is? As mentioned above, first look over the characteristics above. Are you a planner, a worrier, or a person who spends a lot of time engaged in mental processing or thinking about things? If so then you probably are predominantly Air. Do you anger easily or are you a very passionate person? Then you more than likely are a Fire person. Look at each of the elemental correspondences above and see which fit you the best.
A way to get a more exact answer as to which of the 4 elements you are most dominant in is to take our 4 Element Personality Test and to study the 4 elements more in-depth. Do You Know Your Real Magic Fire Colors and How to Use Them?
- direction
- tool
- elemental spirit
- part of person
- direction of view
- colors
- spiritual aspect
Sun Yellow – Affects spirit's vitality and alertness. If feeling spiritually groggy, take on more sun yellow. If feel too excited then dump sun yellow. You can give sun yellow to anyone at anytime safely and it is the one color that you don't have to have their permission to give because it does not negatively affect the person's ability to make choices. If someone is losing life force, sun yellow is a great color to give them.
Yellow Orange – Affects the spirit and physical neural system. This is the color of the energy of reaction. Using this color by either adding more or taking some away can speed up or slow down a person's level of reactivity. Too much yellow orange can make a person jittery, anxious, nervous, jumpy or cranky. Fear is generally a mental-neural phenomenon associated with yellow orange. Conditions resulting from too much yellow orange energy will not have fever or body flushing. That will fall in the category of Red Orange.
Red Orange – Affects the physical neural system and body metabolism. It is similar to Yellow Orange but more physical, more related to the body. Red orange is the color of pain, anger, or fever.
Bright Red – Affects the body's metabolism and temperature and is not related to the neural system at all. Bright red cannot make you angry or irritable. It can be used to raise body temperature to a high level without hurting it or damaging the nervous system. This can be done for a person who is drunk for example, to burn the alcohol out of their system. Increasing bright red is also a way to lose weight by getting rid of hard fats (with soft fats you also have to dump water energy).
Deep Red/Red Purple – Affects the circulatory and glandular systems and fluids, but not the body's metabolism or burning rate. It can be used to boost passion and sexual arousal. It is also a good choice to use with frostbite to safely raise the temperature of the blood without damaging body tissue.
Electric Blue – Has all the bands of color in it, much the same as what many refer to as "white light". It is the color at the bottom of every flame and is the driving force of the Universe. It can be used with a variety of techniques for things such as protection, blasting objects to unkey them and sweeping the body in healing work.
Some conditions are a mix of more than one fire color or fire and another energy color. For example, pain or muscle cramps are somewhere between yellow orange and red orange. Pink is a fire energy with a lot of air energy and is a sedative or relaxing.
Beginning practitioners of real magic should use caution when dealing with fire energies and should not adjust balances on others until they have mastered manipulating their own fire balances. In working with fire, as in working with all the elements, take your time, think it through and do it right. You are literally playing with fire.

Is Magic Real?
We get so many questions and emails about this that we thought it was time to post a reply!
In the Harry Potter movies we watch children play Quidditch on a broomstick and little wizards and witches casting quick spells here and there with their magic wands. In the movie, “Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon,” we watch martial arts heroes literally flying among the trees to fight. These days we’re flooded with all kinds of movies that bring magic into our lives. With all this new found interest in magic, most people are asking, “Is magic real?” What do you think? Is magic real and can you really have magic in your life?
Yes. Magic is very real and has existed as a precise science for thousands of years. Whether you call it magic, magick or majick, it is real. Every single person can learn to do magic. We were ALL born with the talents and abilities that empower us to do magic. The only reason that magic seems so, well, magical is that this society no longer teaches the art and science of magic. In the distant past, magical study was just as important as math, science or the arts. Even the miracles that Jesus performed were based on the use of magic. In fact, magic was and still is the birthright of EVERY planetary citizen.
Can you learn to do the kind of magic portrayed in the movies? Yes – and no. The movies are great at giving you a taste of what you can do with magic, but they aren’t very accurate. In the Harry Potter movies, for instance, the characters use their wands for every magical operation. In reality, you can only use the wand to handle air energies. Your wand would actually explode or catch fire if you tried to use it to throw firebolts and fireballs like the characters do in the movie.
So what can you actually do with magic? Quite a lot. Here’s a short list to get you started:
- Balance your energies for healing and manifestation
- Change old beliefs
- Defend yourself against physical and psychic attack
- Heal yourself and others
- Find hidden information and see possible futures
- Psychically communicate with other beings
- Create sacred space
- Find lost people and objects
- Manifest what you want and need in life
At the very basis of magic is the understanding of the four elements: Air, Fire, Water and Earth. Called elemental magic, these foundational elements are real. Air, Fire, Water and Earth are part of our natural everyday environment. What makes them magical is the understanding of how they operate not just on the physical level, but also at the levels of mind and Spirit.
For instance, while on the physical level Air is just the stuff we breathe, on the magical levels Air is the conduit of psychic communication, enlightenment, understanding, dreaming and more. If you want more of any of these things in your life, then you need more magical Air. How do you get more magical Air? Wear more Air colors, including white for communication and sky blue for enlightenment and understanding. To take this one step further, you could also take on more Air to make your body lighter.
By just extending your understanding and use of the basic ingredients of nature, you are doing magic! Seen in this light, magic isn’t all smoke and mirrors, nor is it the result of Hollywood special effects. Magic is the result of truly understanding and working with the very elements that are all around you.
One final note: Many masters, including Wayne Dyer, have said, "You'll see it when you believe it." The same is true for magic. In other words, the suspension of disbelief and the willingness not to exercise contempt prior to investigation are requirements for magic to be “real.” Magic is all around us, and always is, but our ability to perceive and use the forces of magic depends on our willingness to be open. No one else can show it to you, only your direct experience and observation can “prove” or demonstrate to you that magic is real.
We’ve found that one of the simplest ways to experience magic (and your own magical abilities) is to work with clouds. Clouds respond to your intention, and you can easily move, shape and manipulate clouds from a great distance. And moving clouds that are suspended hundreds of feet above you is quite magical, isn’t it?
To start playing with clouds, send a blank email to clouds@shamanschool.com. We’ll email the instructions to you ASAP. Have fun!
